Xekanirelle
HelloI am hoping someone can help me out.I Installed UFO Aftershock for 3 days ago, and everything worked great then - played it for about 3 hours the first day.Yesterday though i received graphical issues, lines - looking horrible appeared everywhere. and it seemed to "grove" till it finally crashed. Once it does crash Windows gives me an error message (not the game): Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, version 304.48 stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I am using a newly built computerWin 7. sp1, Geforce gtx 560. (tried the normal drivers:301.42 first then "upgraded" to the beta drivers: 304.48, still same issues.)Only thing that has changed from the first day i played to yesterday is windows updates. (sp1 got installed among others). I have been reading these forums and also other forums to try and locate a solution, someone mentioned rolling back to old gfx drivers which i have tried. Does anyone know which version to roll back to? Or does anyone know a solution for this in any other way? silencer_pl
Try unistalling completely drivers. First Nvidia unistall then driver sweeper. Then restart PC and install those that came with CD. If this will happen again I will have to ask is your GPU or CPU is overclocked if so one of them maybe is overheating. I know that bad overclocking CPU might get GPU driver crash. Also are you running latest patch 1.7 ? Next what comes in mind does it happen even if you start a new game ? If all fails I guess that this game is too old for your GPU. I have NV 460 and haven't run this game and nor I will probably but I've played Afterlight on it and didn't have any issue. You can also try changing settings in Nvidia panel. Forcing on/off VSync or turrning of Anti aliasing. You might also check if other games are behaving like this maybe you got damaged GPU.
Xekanirelle
Will give this a try. ty for the information. To answer the questions - yea, i am overclocking the processor, but i have water-cooling so it "shouldn't" be an issue, but will lower it to be sure.I am running the newest patch on aftershock, believe it is 1.3.I have noticed lately some weird issues in other games, familiar to this, (ie: Left 4 Dead 2 - looked just like ufo does, but it went back to normal after 10 seconds) And yea, this issue is happening even if starting a new game, even if turning compability mode on, and even if running as admin. ugh! Removing drivers and re-installing em, will let you all know how it went! ty! /Cookie
silencer_pl
Well then probably your overclocking is set either too high or one of the parameters is wrong. When I overclocked my CPU I run whole night 4x Orthos (I believe that is called) and done 5 or 10 runs on Intel Burn test on very high settings. The thing is with overclocking that super extreme games can work perfectly but soon you will find that one game that will prove that OC is too high. L4D and UFO are highly dependant on CPU. Xekanirelle
Nah, that wasn't it But located the issue, finally! heh Uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of drivers, over n over but it didnt help.gave up yesterday and went at it again this morning.Found duzzin of posts descibing my issue, and a bunch of solutions - the one that worked for me was:go to NVIDIA Control PanelUnder manage 3D settings, in Global1: set vsync to force on2: set power management to maximum performanceAlso earlier i did (which didnt help but ill mention it)1: Nvidia control panel - set phyx configuration - choose your card, not auto select.2:Right-click on Computer, go to PropertiesDevice ManagerExpand "Display Adapters", double-click your vidcardGo over to the Details tabThe menu that can switch between which details to show, change it to "Hardware IDs"TAKE NOTE OF THE "VEN_####" AND "SUBSYS_########", do NOT close the windowExpand "System devices"There should be at least one "High Definition Audio Controller"Find the one with the same "VEN_####" and "SUBSYS_######" as your video cardDISABLE (Not uninstall!) itReboot Now though im sitting with old drivers lol (from the dvd version 270), scared to update them hihi Played L4D2 without issues now and LA Noir, UFO for about 10 min without any crash - no driver crash messages anymore, which popped up randomly (even when not playing) Thanks for the help though!Hope this can help others that run into familiar issues
Sgt. Strike
Ok, after reading this thread, and seeing that not everything is posted, but a good deal, I decided to comment. I know that you are running Windows 7 SP1 . Now, did you allow windows to "upgrade" your video card drivers, or do you do that through nvidia itself? I do NOT, ever, recommend updating drivers through windows update. In fact, I make sure they aren't updated that way. The drivers from windows causes more problems than anything else. And updating drivers should not affect the game at all. It should actually help a little. The other thing, and a lot of people don't do this, but it can help as well. This is it. Go online, to the manufacturer of your monitor, and download the drivers for it. I know, Windows typically has drivers, but the set from the manufacturer is a little better than Windows can get. Install them, and set up your monitor. You may have to reboot, but sometimes you don't. That may help just as much.
Xekanirelle
Heyya Sgt. Strike Yea, i had auto on the windows update and didnt pay attention (had to download a bunch (100 updates i think it was, insane many anyway lol, so missed the video update)I am sure this is what caused my issue from the beginning. It is now turned off, to just receive a notification - more control! Installed the monitor drivers yesterday too, funny that you mentioned it in here. Not that it was the monitor i had issues with, but felt good doing it Played another 3 hours of ufo! Love the original X-Com better, but this works as entertainment till the new X-Com gets released (and no, not the fps version)
