CHEAT!

The Demi-Godly One

What cheats do you know? I'm not saying what you use :o (I don't) but what do you know of?

I know of lying down before a shot hits you (Its literally impossible to hit you this way, except with explosives :) )

and I know of firing in the square behind a cloaked unit so when they try to hit the square they hit the unit. (Cloaking reduces your chance to hit that one enemy, but not the squares around it...) What do you know?

I wouldn't call some of these cheats-per-se. Some of them are just features of the game.

The one about hitting cloaked units: cloaking just reduces the range in which you can spot that unit. Hitting it is something else entirely. Even in the early game, if you KNOW where an alien is, but cannot see it, you can still shoot it and reveal its location when the bullets hit, even though it's well out of your visibility radius.

The best place to test this out is in crashed UFOs. Your soldiers are near the exit pads, but the UFO doors have opened, and you can pretty much guess where the enemy disrupters beams are starting from (even in smoke!). Force fire on that location and if any bullets hit, the shooting alien becomes visible, even if its got a cloaking device.

I call this intuition rather than cheating. :)

Mind shields. These were cut out of the game, but can be found when raiding Marsec buildings. They don't quite work as intended, but they do have an interesting side effect. If used like a motion sensor, they'll just add 20 or so psi defense points onto the soldier. That's simple, isn't it? But wait, leave then on when the mission ends and the boost to your psi defense stats become permanent. You can keep adding this up well past 100 points too.

This is a cheat, but a rather worthless one. Even if your soldiers have 128 psi defense, they'll never be as invulnerable to psi as the androids. Human or hybrids will still get the occasional panic or stun attack, although mind control is out of the question.

The blasted stun raids. This is form of abusing the game mechanics that borders on cheating, and comes right out the other side.

As long as you do not hurt a friendly guard, they'll stay friendly, although stunning them is okay. Usually you can get away with it and just steal valuable items they've left about, like armour, elerium pods, psiclones and or week-2 weapons. You might get a few extra items you missed if you wait for their guards to flee

However, their guards have minds that are as thick as planks. They play catch with their own ammunition and will pick anything up if it isn't bolted down. Worse still, they play catch with armed proximity mines! They will blow up and the damage will be attributed to X-Com even though it was one of their guards that did this.

You can, however, still kill the friendly guards, with... well, the ground.

If you manage to mind control a guard while at the top of a very tall structure, have the guard drop his or her shield then jump off the ledge. Break psi-lock before the guard hits the ground, and they'll possibly get killed. If not, the critical wounds will do them in. I dare not think what'll happen if you still have control of them when they hit the ground.

Brainsuckers do not know how to handle soldiers that are lying down on the ground. They just get stunned. Whether this is a cheat or a bug, I do not know. But it is indeed a handy one if you know where the enemy is coming from.

Similarly, you can stun an alien and one of your own soldiers by flying above the alien then briefly taking off the soldier's marsec torso plate. Usually only one or the other gets stunned, but on some lucky occasions, both. This is a very silly thing to do and should not be done if you're playing a serious game.

Most stunned aliens will not wake up again if you have a conscious soldier standing on top of them.

There's probably lots of others, but there you go.

Yeah, I knew all of those, I hate those friendly raids, there so cheap!

But hitting a cloaked unit is harder I hit almost all the time (96 accuracy on everyone)

but when they are cloaked I miss literally from 2 squares away. And this is not a one time

occasion it happens with every cloaked enemy I've seen! Although the enemies do not have the

penaltie. :hmmm:
