For me it'd still be the brainsucker. All the others I can deal with. A very well placed brainsucker can really ruin your day, moreso if you cannot get it off in time.

Short of that, I suppose anyone with a vortex mine. These things munch away at your disrupter power trousers like there's no tomorrow.

Both. In turn based, your chances of recovering your soldier in mid-suck are very low in deed. In real-time, if the soldier is separated from everyone else, it's kind of tricky to get it off in time.

I know you can lie down to avoid them, but you have to stand up and run from time to time. One cleverly placed brainsucker (i.e. you missed it or if a pod was dropped behind you without you noticing it) and poof, you're fighting your own soldier with your own weapons. Nasty.

Good thing they're one-time-only, unlike the chryssalids in UFO or the tentaculats in TFTD. Even so, when they do appear, they can sometimes come in enormous quantities (on superhuman at least, it isn't so bad on beginner).

Which is why I like using androids in the early game so much!

As it turns out... those things can jump!

:) and how high you are suppose to hover to be inmune to brainsuckers?

I remember a time when a popper ran towards my squad. It was all full of smoke I think, and I dispersed them. But the closest guy to the popper was wearing Marsec, so I sent him two levels up. The popper suddenly stopped without exploding, right below my guy, which terminated him after he reached his final position. The others were taking cover. So in general, poppers are a nuissance only if they appear suddenly.

I agree, the biggest annoyance is maybe a vortex mine, maybe not thrown to me but those attached to the dead alien bodies (after they fall). They launched dimension missiles, and I need just one to trigger a chain reaction. Very bad, very bad :)

Greetings

Alex

Brainsuckers can only jump 2 levels. If you are on level 4 (3 levels above the ground beneath you) you are immune to brainsucking. You are also immune if you are lying prone (which leaves you quite vulnerable to poppers and hyperworms) or if your head is up against a ceiling. Some maps (e.g. apartments) have few levels and no ceiling; those are where brainsuckers can cause the most trouble.

there are actually more than the 9 levels. unfortunatly, i don't have the file anymore, i don't think. i was making my peeps hover, and something happened that made them go higher. so they disapeared! i think if i double clicked them, i see them, but it was over 9. anyway...

i have made dim missles go in circles! if you are lucky (or good) enough, you can get just into a place that it can't get to you...its fun!
