Sgt. Strike
I've been playing X-Com for a long time, off and on. lately when I've plays, and this is the CE version, when I get to the battlescape the scroll goes all wonky, and goes from point of origin to clear across the map. I'm not sure if it's my hardware or software. Suffice it to say my CPU is an AMD Phenom II 6 core. The mouse is a Razer Lachesis. I wonder if it could be the game itself that is playing on the computer I have versus anything else. I did try to search for a subject on this, but couldn't find one. I do give permission to move it to somewhere else, if need be.
Bomb Bloke
The scrolling timer is poorly coded. Faster your processor, the faster it scrolls. Seb's extender should be able to sort that out that plus a few other things. Quick'n'dirty fix is to just use trigger scroll instead of auto, then use the overhead map view to deal with most of your navigation.
Sgt. Strike
I'll try somethings on my end, see if they work, and then try the extender. If nothing else works, I'll go look for an old machine, and play it on that.

Sgt. Strike
Personally I think it's just that my mouse maybe too sensitive for the game. I may lower the sensitivity, and try that. I think it worked before, I don't remember off the top of my head.
Bomb Bloke
Are you talking about the game scroll speed (that of which the game moves the display around the battlescape map) or the mouse tracking speed (that of which the arrow moves around the screen)? The scroll speed has nothing to do with your mouse. You put the arrow near the edges of the screen, the game scrolls the map at whatever speed it wants to (which, with CE and a decently fast processor, can be "lightspeed"). It doesn't matter how fast you put it there. If the arrow is jumping around the screen incredibly fast, that's a different story.

Sgt. Strike
When I move the mouse to the edge of the screen to try to scroll to a point outside of immediate visual range, it tends to fly to beyond where I want it to go. Not sure if it's sensitivity or if it's the game, or my multi-core cpu, or what.
