Snikers
Okay, I doubt I'm going to be describing this very well, but I'll try... Okay, I just played through what I like to call an "Alert Chain". This is when by the time you got to a building when a UFO dropped its aliens, they've already spread. And soon, you start getting ALERT after ALERT after ALERT OVER AND OVER AND OVER... Okay, I'm good now. Anyway, I've heard elsewhere that aliens that escape the tactical combat during a mission, by way of those arrow tiles, also get to other buildings. However, I thought of something. Once one of my soldiers was brainsucked in a mission. The thing was, she was carrying the heavy weapons, and my tommy guns (M4000s) couldn't get through the Megapol armour. Anyway, she actually escaped, by way of the arrow tiles. Now, you would think that if she got to another building, I would see her again. But I didn't. So my question is thus. When aliens flee the mission, when you get them in another building, are they the same aliens, or do they magically transform into some other make of alien? When a skeletoid escapes the tactical combat zone, when you see him again, is he still a skeletoid, or a Multiworm?
thecyke
You`re thinking too much. I`d assume a controlled agent who goes awol soon gets killed, devoured or too brainfried to ever show up again. There is allegedly some sort of breeding/evolution pattern along the lines of what you mentioned but its likely not too strict. Bear in mind, some of the aliens aren`t suited to our environment and die naturally and stuff. On the whole though, i`d ercommend watching those saucers and where they insert aliens, then hitting the building immediately after. Make sure you have enough troops in case you need to make multiple assaults in a row. Letting things get bad enough that alerts occur is asking for trouble! NKF
Yes, taking out the drop sites immediately after they're placed reduces infiltration drastically. Since there are usually up to three drops at a time, I would suggest you send hoverbikes or any other available vehicle to the infected buildings as markers. You don't get the red circle on the overhead map until after an alert is made, and usually by then, the infection will be too widespread to deal with efficiently. Unless you've got a photographic memory, the bikes are as good a marker as any. If you can successfully take out the primary sites, leave your markers there for a while and vigilantly watch your graphs until the infiltration levels drop off the graph. If you notice any spikes in the alien activity, check for buildings belonging to the affected organisation around the initially infected site(s). Bear in mind that the aliens who'd run off to the adjacent buildings can still run back to the inflitration site. Oh, and regarding brainsucked soldiers, they are discarded from the game immediately after the mission, so you'll never see them again. The city grid holds values for the number of aliens (or maybe a percentage) in each building, but they cannot store information about any particular brainsucked agent. For consistency's sake, it would be nice if they had done so though. The aliens using rogue brainsucked X-Com agents to ruin X-Com's image and whatnot. The possibilities! - NKF P.S.: Watch your graphs!
Alan
personally, i tend to make a save game with the name of the buildings, and just remember. And yes, take out infiltration sites as soon as you see them beam down, especially on harder difficulty levels, cause the alarms are less frequent (as in unreliable) so organisations might just turn without you realising otherwise. Snikers
Okay, I want to make it clear that I do head for the buildings immediately, I do mark them with a vehicle (only its a blazer turbo bike for me, they are dirt cheap) it's just that it seems to take 0.02 sceonds for the aliens to spread halfway across the city. Anyway, I have the answer to my question.
