Zombie
So I decided I'd like to try an AAR (After Action Report) of Silent Storm, but to make things a little more interesting than the usual AAR I randomized what I would get. I created a spreadsheet, entered the Campaign, Gender, Nationality, Profession, (etc) titles and then generated a random number within the range to pick what I would get. No do-overs, or recalculations, this is what Excel spit out for me. (For some reason, my notes said 0=female, 1=male so I went with that instead of in-game). I of course took one small concession: if the gender was female, she would only get female hair and NO facial hair (c'mon, we can't be that cruel) while males only get male hairstyles. Here is what this particular female ended up looking like: https://s4.postimage.org/1hnaue78/Scrn_Shot_120911_150435.jpg Not the most endearing face in the world, but it could have ended up far worse. Once I knew the sex, I determined her name by generating a random number between 1 and 1000 and then picking that from the list here. First name: Vickie, short for Victoria which means victorious (how appropriate)! Last Name: Quinn (Irish derivation). Nickname: I chose Tori. She will be on the Axis side, Japanese, a Medic and have an Italian voice. Quite the diversity. The one thing I didn't randomize were her stats... I just used the game defaults. I probably could have come up with some randomization routine to figure out Str, Dex and Int, but for my first full play through I don't want to gimp my character too much. (Gimp: In RPGs to accumulate stats, atrubutes or skills is such a way that your character is almost useless). I'll post the training mission shortly. Once I'm done with that, it will be time to pick my squadmates. They will also be randomly chosen to a degree (I'm not sure how to go about this yet, but I do not want another medic on the team because my hero is already one), so I might just exclude that class. We'll see. - Zombie
Zombie
Tori zones in and right away sees two enemies standing by a blue car. Not good. Run for cover! https://s4.postimage.org/3sc67338/Scrn_Shot_120911_165631.jpg She only has a rifle and some medical supplies so she stays put trying her best to breathe lightly and remain hidden. The two enemies come closer to investigate the smell of strong perfume and she is subsequently spotted and shot at with pistols. "Cease fire, I'm a doctor! " she screams. It does little good as one round connects with her soft, round, supple, curvy, sexy, body. (Sorry, forgot what she looks like, ahem). She does not want to kill anyone because of the Hippocratic Oath, but when Tori hears the goons talking about her ugly face, she knows she has to do something to shut them up. One warning shot over the bow and the two are still talking dirt. "Aim low" she thinks as she pulls the trigger on her rifle again. A groin shot makes the goon groan in agony. She apparently has a moment of conscience and thinks about treating the man in pain. https://s4.postimage.org/4j7nl3z8/Scrn_Shot_120911_165854.jpg That thought is erased as the other enemy lets fly with a barrage of pistol fire. None of them connect giving her opportunity to aim a shot at the other guys body. It also connects, and during the AI turn the first goon bleeds out through his femoral artery, dying instantly. https://s1.postimage.org/1v8pknno/Scrn_Shot_120911_165948.jpg The remaining enemy (heavily wounded at this point) cannot do anything due to the gaping exit wound in his chest. It audibly sucks in air as he tries to breathe indicating a collapsed lung is in his future. Feeling sorry, Tori puts him out of his misery. https://s1.postimage.org/1xro4qtg/Scrn_Shot_120911_170004.jpg With no enemies in sight, Tori relaxes and catches her breath. First off though, she gained an ability point. If this wasn't my first time playing all the way through in a new campaign setting, I would actually randomly pick where to allocate that point. However, for this run I'll just pick the abilities myself. Seeing as she is hurt and requires medical attention I pick Bandage Master. 50% better bandaging? Yes please! https://s3.postimage.org/2q2h1mhqc/Scrn_Shot_120911_170114.jpg With the wound dressed, she sneaks up to the two corpses and loots the pistols and clips they were carrying. Next she crawls along the edge of the map under the cover of trees and foliage looking for more enemies. Target acquired! https://s2.postimage.org/74d6gt0k/Scrn_Shot_120911_170442.jpg Ever fashion conscious, Tori quietly complains to herself that this guy obviously does not know that he's not supposed to wear white after labor day. Then she realizes she is breaking the same rule by wearing not only a white lab coat but a hat too. "At least I have an excuse" she thinks. Alerted to the fragrance of eau de skunk wafting nearby, the Fashion Casualty comes closer to investigate the foul smell, nearly stepping on her in the process. https://s2.postimage.org/7a293u90/Scrn_Shot_120911_170538.jpg Sensing an opportunity, her first rifle shot misses by a bloody mile. Luckily her stolen pistol performs better. Enamored with Tori's smell and urged on by the adrenaline in his blood from the wound, the civilian tries the oldest trick in the book to get her phone number. https://s1.postimage.org/2yc3wzwk/Scrn_Shot_120911_170630.jpg With his advances thwarted, he cowardly retreats to lick his wounds and think of a new strategy to gain her affection. Tori's repeated attempts to turn him away by shooting at him with her rifle all fail miserably. Blubbering incoherently, and deciding this is his last chance he blurts the first thing that comes into his head. https://s4.postimage.org/5c5k5r38/Scrn_Shot_120911_170956.jpg "How dumb do you think I am?" Tori proclaimed as she shot him with her pistol yet again. All the excitement gave the perv a heart attack as he keeled backwards dying with a sick smile on his face. Disbelieving, Tori wrenched the pistol out of his hand, ready to shoot him again if he moved. As his body started to turn blue, she looked at the pistol in her hand and realized it was silenced. There was no time to admire it as another enemy appeared. https://s3.postimage.org/2ryqm87k4/Scrn_Shot_120911_171319.jpg Overconfident from her victory with the old fart, Tori waited in ambush knowing full well that she will draw the remaining goons on the map to her location, like flies to fresh poo. It worked surprisingly well, but she is spotted. https://s3.postimage.org/2sfs6lyro/Scrn_Shot_120911_171440.jpg Grabbing her rifle and rising to take a knee, she pokes the muzzle into the guys mouth and pulls the trigger. She is rewarded with a spattering of grey matter and blood on her white outfit as the final enemy flew backward. https://s3.postimage.org/2siodgtvo/Scrn_Shot_120911_171524.jpg Perfect delivery? Did you deliver a baby or something? Unknown to me, the mission ends before I was able to fully investigate the map. Supposedly, the mission automatically ends when the man in white is near the car. Not that there was anything good on this map since I already picked up the silenced pistol, but still I would have liked to look around a little bit. Well, that pistol should make someone happy. But who? Stay tuned to find out which characters get hired in my next post. - Zombie

Zombie
He he he, we dragged you down into the AAR dirt!!! Awesome!Sort of. I finished watching jefmajor's Let's Play S2 on YouTube the other day, came to StrategyCore and realized nobody tried an AAR of this game yet. So I figure, why not. (BTW, I encourage everyone interested in the game to check out his videos, he's a funny guy and does a great job with his Let's Play). Well, I created a spreadsheet this morning which would randomly grab from the recruit pool of 20 by first generating a number between 1 and 20, then 1-19, 1-18, 1-17 and 1-16. (To eliminate duplicates). But I ended up just doing 5 random rolls between 1 and 20 until I got 5 that didn't match. Here's what Excel came up with: Too bad I don't have any D&D dice, otherwise this would have been a lot more fun. This is the crew in-game: https://s3.postimage.org/33g3nwz0k/Scrn_Shot_130911_142836.jpg Reinhard Beyer (Grenadier)Carmelina Donati (Scout)Mitica "Mike" Caslaru (Soldier)Ela "Eagle" Jelinek (Sniper)Javier Vivas (Engineer) I got very, very lucky, as all the classes are covered. Now it's time to equip the squad and go on a mission. - Zombie
Zombie
Time to equip! My "Hero" (I use the term very loosely here), didn't require much new gear. I just swapped her 33-40 Rifle for a Mauser 98 and grabbed a few more clips. https://s4.postimage.org/im3vggv8/Scrn_Shot_130911_154515.jpg Reggie (aka Reinhard the grenadier) needed a little help. https://s4.postimage.org/im5iztd0/Scrn_Shot_130911_154544.jpg One throwing knife wasn't going to do him any good so I got rid of that. I swapped his MP 38 for a MP 40 (it has +2 min damage and +1 range) and took 2 more clips. He also needed a backup weapon so he got a Mauser K96 pistol and 3 clips. Carm also needed major help. https://s4.postimage.org/im76j5us/Scrn_Shot_130911_154717.jpg The Sauer 38X went in the bank along with the 3 clips. She also put the lone Pukke throwing knife in the bank too. In exchange for the pistol, she got the Silenced Nagant 1910 pistol +6 clips , a Kappmesser Knife (the only melee knife I have at the time, will need to upgrade) and a 33-40 Rifle with 5 clips for long range shooting. Mike was luckier. https://s4.postimage.org/im8u2ick/Scrn_Shot_130911_155020.jpg He got rid of the SRCM grenade, and picked up a 33-40 Rifle +4 clips (long range shooting when his SMG will not be accurate). Eagle was very easy to shop for. https://s4.postimage.org/imahluuc/Scrn_Shot_130911_155157.jpg I picked up 4 rifle clips and 3 pistol clips... that's it. Here's where things got tricky. Javier (supposedly an engineer) is a total mess. https://s4.postimage.org/imdsojtw/Scrn_Shot_130911_155317.jpg I mean, HUH? What's up with all the grenades pal? You have more than the dedicated grenadier! And not a single engineering item either! So I looked at his stats. They remind me more of a soldier or grenadier than an engineer. Baffled, I looked at his bio and compared it to the other engineers in the game. Nothing about engineering in his bio, but everyone else did. I thought it was possibly a mis-classed soldier on Nival's part until I read this: When Alferez Javier Vivas first joined Wehrmacht, the German's military service for foreign volunteers weren't really sure what to do with him. He had an aptitude for a whole range of skills, but he never showed a proficiency in any particular one. Eventually, they found the perfect use for him - small squad special operations where he could step in to fill the shoes of any fallen mission specialists. It's a role that earned him a promotion to Second Lt. within a year.Ah ha! He's apparently a "jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none" type of unit. Well, this is going to suck without a dedicated engineer, but I guess I have to play him. Got rid of all his grenades. ALL of them. I wouldn't have minded his setup much if I had the grenade mod applied to this saved game (it allows you to throw grenades further making the game more realistic). As it stands though, the nerf to grenades makes this a hard class to swallow, especially with a dedicated grenadier already on the team. In exchange for the grenades, he picked up 2 more SMG clips, a Nagant 1910 + 4 clips, a roll of Adhesive surgical plaster, a mine probe and a pick lock (who else can use them)? This will have to do. I better get some beer and liquor up for my first mission. It's gonna be a beast. - Zombie

chiasaur11
Looking good so far. Of course, the temptation to abandon is always strong. Good luck. Oh, and a friendly warning. If you see a wisecracking robot, star spangled man with a plan, or, most of all a British nurse with the last name of "Williams", possibly in roman armor? Surrender. Immediately. There are things the Axis is not equipped to fight.
Zombie
On the way to our first mission, the squad was intercepted by enemies in mid-flight? (mid-roll? how do we travel that allow the enemies to catch us)? Aaanyhow, not wanting to back off on a challenge, we zone in to what looks like a railroad yard. https://s3.postimage.org/iwkuya9w/Scrn_Shot_140911_194556.jpg Not wanting to draw any attention to themselves, the team immediately goes into hiding. https://s3.postimage.org/iwmihmro/Scrn_Shot_140911_194802.jpg Mike, always happy, decides to tell a joke to break the ice A man went to the police station wishing to speak with the burglar who had broken into his house the night before. "You'll get your chance in court," said the desk sergeant. "No, no, no!" said the man. "I want to know how he got into the house without waking my wife. I've been trying to do that for years!"The females in the group didn't react, but Reggie and Javier choked back laughter almost blowing their cover. Only the stern look of Tori kept them in line. The team splits up: Tori, Reggie, Carm and Mike decide to head around the long side of the building while Eagle and Javier cover the road. The main teams advance was cut short when Eagle gestured for them to stop and hold their ground. https://s3.postimage.org/iwo60z9g/Scrn_Shot_140911_194839.jpg Everyone was a little hesitant and quietly talked amongst themselves. Did she see someone? What's wrong? Eagle didn't give much of an explanation, just to stand back and cover their ears. It soon became obvious that she saw the outline of some fuel drums through cracks in the mortar and was going to surprise the enemy from an angle they were not expecting. https://s3.postimage.org/iwus6d8k/Scrn_Shot_140911_195033.jpg She took aim and https://s3.postimage.org/iwy39284/Scrn_Shot_140911_195256.jpg The explosion was deafening. Bits of mortar and chunks of brick rained down on everyone. When the dust cleared, there was a satisfying sight. https://s3.postimage.org/ix1ebr7o/Scrn_Shot_140911_195529.jpg One very dead enemy was laid in a heap. Another enemy was spotted inside, and yet he took no interest in the team or the gaping hole in the building for some reason. Carm motioned to the squad that she was going to sneakily take care of him alone and ran off. Tori motioned to Reggie that he should back her up. Just as he ran off, another enemy was spotted by Eagle on a iron stairwell. https://s3.postimage.org/ix80h56s/Scrn_Shot_140911_200812.jpg This wasn't going to be easy, but the team was certainly communicating well. Carm was signaling to Reggie who relayed her position back to Tori while Mike was getting intel from both Eagle and Javier. Tori was very impressed with the cooperation between her teammates thus far. It was agreed upon that this was going to be a simultaneous strike against both targets to minimize the noise. Carm slowly inched closer to her target while Eagle kept an eye on hers. https://s3.postimage.org/ix9o0hok/Scrn_Shot_140911_201422.jpg Carm had to act first. She took her silenced Nagent revolver off her belt and pulled the trigger 3 times before she even realized it. All were direct hits to his torso. https://s3.postimage.org/ixcz36o4/Scrn_Shot_140911_201519.jpg Two more shots and two more direct hits. Unfortunately, Reggie's overeager advance had tipped off the enemy that there was resistance nearby and he shot blindly at Reggie, missing badly. With the enemy critically wounded and at such close range, Carm grabbed her rifle, took careful aim and killed him cold. https://s3.postimage.org/ixhxp85g/Scrn_Shot_140911_201716.jpg - Zombie

Zombie
Coming back to where we left off... Carm just finished killing off the SMG baddie on the catwalk. Meanwhile, Reggie lumbered over to where the other enemy was hoping to get sloppy seconds after Eagle was finished. Neck shot! https://s3.postimage.org/ixl8rx50/Scrn_Shot_140911_202213.jpg Even though Carm was out of combat range, her hearing was so keen she heard an enemy on the catwalk outside the building. Reggie made a mad dash for the general area hoping to get a sneak SMG attack through the window. https://s3.postimage.org/ixmwb9ms/Scrn_Shot_140911_202337.jpg The enemy crawled through the window during his turn and shot Reggie. Nothing serious, but enough for him to feel through all that bulging muscle. He got his revenge next turn. https://s3.postimage.org/ixojum4k/Scrn_Shot_140911_202540.jpg The other visible enemy in the above pic was attempting to crawl down from his perch on the stairs but got caught midway. This was too good to be true, and Tori was just itching to get in on the action. It was not meant to be as both her snap shots missed. Eagle (as usual), was spot on and finished him off. https://s3.postimage.org/ixq7dymc/Scrn_Shot_140911_202711.jpg After killing the enemy that crawled through the window, Reggie was completely out of action points and was helpless to react when another enemy came from the far side of the building and shot him multiple times. https://s3.postimage.org/ixruxb44/Scrn_Shot_140911_202821.jpg Spoken like a real trooper. But what the enemy failed to realize is that a wounded animal like Reggie is very dangerous. A full burst from his MP 40 sprays a volley of bullets, most hitting their mark. https://s3.postimage.org/ixv6003o/Scrn_Shot_140911_202909.jpg Yeah, I'd hate to bring that body back to his family. It wouldn't be pretty. A round went by with no activity, so Carm decided to rejoin the group. Before she could get far, an enemy appeared to the East where the road was. During that interrupt, Carm shot a single bullet from her silenced pistol which caused the enemy to try to round the corner where the whole team was located. https://s3.postimage.org/ixwtjclg/Scrn_Shot_140911_203157.jpg Up till now, Javier was fairly quiet and low key, not because he was scared but because he was on a new team and didn't know if he would fit in. He was fine with overwatch duty, but when Tori looked his way and gave him a nod to take the shot, he was more than happy to oblige. https://s3.postimage.org/ixyh2p38/Scrn_Shot_140911_203228.jpg As if to put an exclamation mark on an already stellar career, all his shots connected. It was then that the squad knew they could trust one another. There was no time to relax though as another enemy was following in his dead friends footsteps. Carm noticed him first and tried to draw him in with a couple shots from her silenced pistol to no avail. He was just too far away. Her rifle had much better accuracy but it was still a near impossible shot to make. https://s3.postimage.org/iy3foqkk/Scrn_Shot_140911_203443.jpg She still was able connect, wounding the enemy for a ton of damage. The enemy was petrified and was only able to move a few feet back before his turn ended. Carm was in a zone so Tori gave her the nod to try another long range shot. The first missed, but the second connected dealing another critical hit eliminating the threat. https://s3.postimage.org/iy53832c/Scrn_Shot_140911_203757.jpg Now the squad regrouped, everyone reloading their weapons. Tori bandaged up Reggie and they headed out to the building at the far side of the map. Once there, Tori took up a defensive position by the motorbike, while Javier, Reggie and Mike gained entry to the building. Eagle was placed by the exit as overwatch and Carm kept an eye on the window. Just as she suspected, the enemy crawled out the window and stood right in front of Carm. https://s3.postimage.org/iy6qrfk4/Scrn_Shot_140911_205050.jpg She emptied her pistol of bullets hitting the enemy, but couldn't kill him off. Before she could say anything, Reggie burst through the door, looked out the window and fired. https://s3.postimage.org/iy8eas1w/Scrn_Shot_140911_205200.jpg The muzzle flash lit up the room like day as he polished off the last enemy on the map. The team went into recovery mode, gathering up all the weapons. Inside a locker, Eagle found 2 vials of liquid cardiac stimulant. Tori can't use it for another couple skill points, but at least it's something. All in all, a fairly nice mission. Everyone on the team except for Mike took shots at an enemy and there was only one person that got wounded. We got a couple more rifles to give to the members in the squad without them, but there will not be enough ammo to go around. Hopefully the next quest we can fix that. - Zombie

Zombie
S2 came out in 2003 so it's 8 years old now. And for a game this old, the graphics, animations and gameplay are top notch which says a lot (we can chalk that up to 3D graphics). Because of this, it's a "graphics hog" as Slaughter used to say - my rig is way over the recommended specs and the game still taxes my system resources from time to time. - Zombie
silencer_pl
This is the only thing that Nival did right although the physics could be better optimized, but generally it is not that bad. If there was some kind of uber modder that would enable multi cores - this engine would have its second life. Little OT: I have watched some videos of this guy you mentioned - he is horrible at playing this game and his comments are not quite funny - well at least he makes more less funny comments than funny ones. Zombie
What's going on here? I was trying to take my squad to their first scripted mission and they were caught in mid air again. I should really watch the map more instead of doing other things. One small change from before, I'm now set to switch to real-time when no enemies are present instead of remaining in turn-based mode. Ah well, everyone zones in and does the usual: hide and set to run instead of walk. (I really wish there was a way to make this the default when zoning in, that would make it so much easier)! https://s4.postimage.org/2ndl8ub1g/Scrn_Shot_180911_224229.jpg Carm runs ahead trying her best to see through the blinding rain, looking for anything that might be moving. A rifleman is spotted on a first floor rooftop. https://s4.postimage.org/2ndmwdnj8/Scrn_Shot_180911_224327.jpg Since Mike wasn't pulling his weight in the last mission, he shot a couple times and missed horribly. Quite understandable seeing that he really isn't a sniper. Tori shot next, hoping to improve her stats. She hit, but not for much. But that's better than nothing. https://s4.postimage.org/2ndruzp0k/Scrn_Shot_180911_224452.jpg Yes you are capable, Tori! You go, uh, girl! Eagle went next, but both her shots missed. Tactical error on my part really, I should have ordered her to take an aimed shot or a sniper shot which are more accurate. Reggie and Javier held back and saved their APs seeing as they don't have rifles. Carm also held back: she was still hidden and it's nice to keep an eyeball on the enemy at all times. The squad watched as the rifleman climbed down the side of the building and made his way closer. https://s4.postimage.org/2ndtij1ic/Scrn_Shot_180911_224539.jpg Same rotation as before: Mike called dibs on shooting first and missed again, while Tori missed her first shot and connected on her second. https://s4.postimage.org/2ndv62e04/Scrn_Shot_180911_224619.jpg It didn't do much damage, but it was a very tough shot to make so it didn't bother me. Damage is damage. Eagle now aims a shot and connects! https://s4.postimage.org/2ndyh52zo/Scrn_Shot_180911_224630.jpg Quite an amazing shot. It actually passed through the log post of the gate to get to the target. The game goes to real-time and I have everyone reload, sneak and advance into the compounds front yard. Sounds were coming from the small mechanical building, so the squad surrounded the door. https://s4.postimage.org/2ne04ofhg/Scrn_Shot_180911_230153.jpg The enemy inside was reluctant to show his face, but did so eventually. He was holding a M3A1 SMG so he needed to die fast. https://s4.postimage.org/2ne3fr4h0/Scrn_Shot_180911_230209.jpg Reggie and Javier were both in a perfect spot to shoot the enemy so they drew straws. Reggie won and let loose with a full auto burst killing the soldier. https://s4.postimage.org/2ne8ed5yc/Scrn_Shot_180911_230241.jpg There was just barely enough time to reload weapons and go back into hiding when another rifleman appeared on the rooftop above where the first one was. Eagle took an off balance shot and missed. https://s4.postimage.org/2nebpfuxw/Scrn_Shot_180911_230458.jpg Javier advanced to cover the main door into the building while the rest of the squad backed up a bit to get a better angle on the enemy above. https://s4.postimage.org/2nedcz7fo/Scrn_Shot_180911_230750.jpg This time Carm goes first. Her first shot missed, but her second was a doozy, dealing massive damage to the target. https://s4.postimage.org/2nef0ijxg/Scrn_Shot_180911_230843.jpg Another amazing shot. You can clearly see the smoke from the gun firing, the bullet hitting the concrete lip of the floor, connecting with the enemy and then continuing on through the wall in back. Talk about penetration. He still wasn't dead though, so Tori took a a couple snap shots. The first missed (as usual it seemed on this mission) while the second dealt the killing blow. https://s4.postimage.org/2nego1wf8/Scrn_Shot_180911_231013.jpg - Zombie

Zombie
With Javier and Reggie covering the main door, Carm sneaks along the West side of the building. Tori, Eagle and Mike (who all have rifles) stand back offering long range support. Nobody was really expecting to spot anyone, this was only an attempt to secure the outside. That changed when Carm spotted a sniper in a guard tower. https://s4.postimage.org/2nejz4les/Scrn_Shot_180911_231254.jpg With the sniper spotted and nowhere to run, Tori, Mike and Eagle try a simultaneous rifle attack. None of them hit the enemy, but they all hit the guard tower - mowing down the top part. https://s4.postimage.org/2nena7aec/Scrn_Shot_180911_231317.jpg I'm not really sure if the sniper fell or just crawled down the ladder, but next thing I know he was on the ground crab walking towards my team. Carm spotted him though. https://s4.postimage.org/2neoxqmw4/Scrn_Shot_180911_231445.jpg This has to be my favorite screenshot I took in-game so far. It looks so realistic! The enemy was allowed to walk forward a bit and since the rifle team was still too far away to be spotted, they all took a simultaneous shot. Everyone missed (again)! https://s4.postimage.org/2nes8tbvo/Scrn_Shot_180911_231511.jpg I love seeing the smoke coming out of the rifles during the shot. Carm does nothing except keeping tabs on the enemies location: she was too far out to shoot reliably with her silenced pistol anyway. The rifleman advances some more, and everyone decides to try a simultaneous shot one last time. https://s4.postimage.org/2netwcodg/Scrn_Shot_180911_231529.jpg Finally! Eagle connects and possibly someone else. It looked like an arm shot so he must've felt it. This is probably my second favorite screenshot in S2 so far. With the enemy injured, Carm breaks stealth with a single snap shot. With an 84% chance to hit, she might as well. The result was obvious. https://s4.postimage.org/2nevjw0v8/Scrn_Shot_180911_231547.jpg Another confirmed kill. The game goes back to real-time mode giving my team a chance to reload, restealth, and reposition. Almost immediately, an enemy burst through the door. He hesitated after spotting a good part of my team, then took off running. https://s4.postimage.org/2nex7fdd0/Scrn_Shot_180911_231757.jpg Why he never spotted Reggie is beyond me. Reggie wasn't complaining though, it was another easy kill. https://s4.postimage.org/2nf0ii2ck/Scrn_Shot_180911_231816.jpg After that, it was back to real-time. More reloading, restealthing, repositioning. Part of the team entered on the first floor, while a few more entered on the second floor. In order to get to the 3rd floor, you actually needed to climb a ladder from the outside, so Carm headed off to do that. She didn't get far and noticed a sniper on the rooftop. https://s4.postimage.org/2nf261euc/Scrn_Shot_180911_232249.jpg Eagle was called back outside, while everyone else held their positions inside. Carm still had eyes on the rifleman, so Eagle had plenty of time to find an appropriate spot to shoot. First shot hit and critically wounded the enemy. https://s4.postimage.org/2nf3tkrc4/Scrn_Shot_180911_232407.jpg That's the plan, soldier. That's the plan. Now please die, ok? https://s4.postimage.org/2nf74ngbo/Scrn_Shot_180911_232425.jpg And, your time has gone. Say goodnight, it's bedtime. Remind me never to cross Eagle, 60 damage on one shot. Time to rethink my strategy a bit. Having not seen any activity on the first two floors, but meeting resistance on the 3rd, I sent Tori and Reggie to cover the top floor. Mike and Javier covered the lowest floor while Carm and Eagle would enter the 2nd floor. No sooner then getting inside and an enemy comes out of hiding on the 2nd floor. https://s4.postimage.org/2nf8s6stg/Scrn_Shot_180911_232643.jpg Eagle was spotted, so she fired first. It was another amazing shot. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfafq5b8/Scrn_Shot_180911_232657.jpg Carm fires next round and also hits. https://s4.postimage.org/2nffec6sk/Scrn_Shot_180911_232801.jpg Ok, let's stop tormenting this guy and finish him off already. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfh1vjac/Scrn_Shot_180911_232820.jpg Well, true. But you also killed the target, Eagle. So back to RT. Same old grind: reload, restealth, reposition. Not sure where this enemy came from, he must've snuck past our defenses or circled around from the rear of the building. No worries, Eagle and Reggie are on it. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfipevs4/Scrn_Shot_180911_233235.jpg Oh wait, here comes Carm. She takes a knee right in front of Eagle, hoping for a kill shot. You guessed it. Friendly fire! https://s4.postimage.org/2nfkcy89w/Scrn_Shot_180911_233301.jpg Likely story Eagle. Unfazed with all the drama going on above him, the enemy coolly shoots Carm. But Eagle gets some revenge. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfno0x9g/Scrn_Shot_180911_233355.jpg And some more. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfpbk9r8/Scrn_Shot_180911_233359.jpg A vicious hit! The enemy is now critically wounded so Carm gets her wish for a kill shot. https://s4.postimage.org/2nfqz3m90/Scrn_Shot_180911_233445.jpg And that's it, all the enemies are eliminated. Recovery operations initiated, and Tori runs out to Carm to heal her up. She really didn't need to be healed, but Tori needs the medical training. And bandages are cheap. Nothing decent was found in the lockers except for (shocker) more bandages. Still hoping to find some mines or a heavy machine gun for Reggie, but it's still early in the campaign. - Zombie
Zombie
Death from below! :: This thing of enemies hearing shots and heading towards said shots is very helpful of them, isn't it? Yup, sometimes. Depends if you are in TB or RT mode (at least for me). I'm pretty slow to react in RT mode so if another enemy comes to investigate I'll be lucky to hit the TB button in time. In TB, I can coordinate the troops more and set them up for sniper shots or bursts from my machine gunners. Oh, and apologies, I didn't realize you posted due to my big posts covering yours up. And that's it, all the enemies are eliminated. Recovery operations initiated, and Tori runs out to Carm to heal her up. She really didn't need to be healed, but Tori needs the medical training. Still hoping to find some mines or a heavy machine gun for Reggie, but it's still early in the campaign.I just ran a few exploratory random encounter on the same map type (didn't save the game) just to see what I could get. Sometimes you can find a Scoped 33-40 rifle and some Mauser clips (I actually need another one for Carm), medical supplies such as bandages, liquid cardiac stimulant and analgesic pills are also quite common. I saw a Chatellerault one time and also Smiz land mines. So I might just run a few more of these random encounters "off the book" so to speak to get a little better gear before I head out to the first scripted mission. - Zombie
Zombie
Well, I ran about 5 or 6 more random encounters in various maps yesterday to see what goodies I could get. Really did not acquire that much, but it was a learning experience for my team (and me too)! Short Summary: Reggie got a medal! https://s1.postimage.org/2uhu47ow4/Scrn_Shot_200911_162323.jpg https://s1.postimage.org/2ui0qd2v8/Scrn_Shot_200911_231056.jpg It's just too bad that medals aren't shown on the soldiers uniform/clothing. That would be cool. Now to pick ability points. Nothing new with Tori, she has bandage master and surgeon. For Reggie I picked faster attributes growth. In the short-term it is probably the best option he has. Next point will go into force of habit. He doesn't really need that, but it leads to SMG specialization and some good grenade buffs. https://s1.postimage.org/2ui5oz4ck/Scrn_Shot_200911_231335.jpg With Carm it was a toss up between look for free or better hearing. In the end, she got look for free so that she doesn't waste any APs looking while she could be attacking or spotting. Next point will probably go into better hearing though, I noticed her radius of detection is ok, but she sometimes misses hearing nearby enemies. https://s1.postimage.org/2uicb4ibo/Scrn_Shot_200911_231423.jpg Mike was quite similar to Reggie. I had a choice between survival, look for free or faster familiarization. Survival is a wasted choice if you don't get hurt for a ton. Look for free is nice to have on any toon, but I chose faster familiarization because it leads to SMG specialization. https://s1.postimage.org/2uikkt8sk/Scrn_Shot_200911_231610.jpg It was really hard to choose where Eagle's point should go. Look for free is nice, pistol spec isn't but it leads to rifle spec, better careful shot is ok but leads to other nice skills or night hunt. I picked night hunt as it is something she can use immediately. Not all missions are in the dark but when they are it's nice to be able to shoot the same distance as in the day. https://s1.postimage.org/2uiw5ko90/Scrn_Shot_200911_231638.jpg Javier was a little easier to shop for. His engineering skills suck, so that eliminates the burglar line. Faster reload? Nah, he just picked up a MP 40 II which has 2 clips @ 32 bullets each (total of 64 bullets) so he's basically reloading half as often from when he was using a MP 38. I chose pistol spec because it leads to SMG spec which is useful. He does use his pistol from time to time also so it's not going to waste. https://s1.postimage.org/2uizgnd8k/Scrn_Shot_200911_231759.jpg Onwards to weapon loadouts. Tori picked up a Scoped 33-40 rifle yesterday so she passed her Mauser M98 on to Mike. She still has a Nagant 1910 as backup since I haven't looted a better pistol. Not much else new with her, but take a gander at the med/engineering supplies back at base. https://s1.postimage.org/2uj2rq284/Scrn_Shot_200911_231823.jpg I got 99% of it from running those random encounters: 9 Liquid Cardiac Stimulants (increases VPs but knocks the unit unconscious after 5 turns), kinda a waste unless a unit is near death at the end of a quest and requires master medic skill. 11 Haemostatic Powders (stops bleeding), 13 Acetophenetidin Analgesic Tablets (removes penalties from crits, but you lose 15% VPs 2 turns later) and 6 Adhesive Surgical Plasters (heals, removes crits). I also nabbed 6 Smiz-35 landmines (great for area denial and demolition) and only takes up 2 units in inventory. Reggie got a brand new MP 40 II SMG, which is a great upgrade from the MP 40 he was carrying before. Twice the bullets means half the reloads! His old MP 40 was gifted to Mike. As always he has a Mauser K96 pistol for backup as well as some potato masher frag grenades and a couple light HE grenades (those come in handy when you want to booby trap a window or door for area denial. https://s1.postimage.org/2uj62sr7o/Scrn_Shot_200911_231852.jpg Carm now has a Scoped 33-40 rifle as well as her trusty Silenced 1910 Nagant pistol. It's a great combo. A pistol shot to draw them in, then some rile shots to kill them off. https://s1.postimage.org/2ujb1esp0/Scrn_Shot_200911_231910.jpg The biggest changes happened with Mike. He ditched his MP 28 Bergmann SMG and got Reggie's MP 40 instead. Also, he turned in his 33-40 rifle for Tori's Mauser M98. It has a little more damage and a more distance. (Moar!, Moar!, Moar!). https://s1.postimage.org/2ujg00u6c/Scrn_Shot_200911_231924.jpg Eagle just got a new Mauser K96 pistol, but otherwise no other changes. She still has her Scoped 33-40 rifle which has served her well so far. https://s1.postimage.org/2ujhnk6o4/Scrn_Shot_200911_231935.jpg And finally, Javier. Goodbye MP 38 and hello MP 40 II! He also has a Mauser K96 pistol for backup. Not a bad combo really. https://s1.postimage.org/2ujkymvno/Scrn_Shot_200911_231948.jpg So it looks like we're about ready for our first scripted mission. I would have liked a Chatellerault, but MP 40 II's are better than I had before. - Zombie
Space Voyager
So it looks like we're about ready for our first scripted mission. What do you mean, scripted mission?
silencer_pl
To get something special you need to find a special encounters In England for example you can find Katana for your scout. But I guess you should know that
Space Voyager
Ah, so these are game scripted missions, not something Zombie would script himself. Thanks. If you were referring to me about "should know that", I never played any of the SSs.
