FullAuto
But they (SEGA) decide when the game should be published. Sort of, but not really. Once you start game development, you have to finish it within a reasonable timeframe if you want to see a profit. You can't simply say "Oh, it's not ready yet." over and over until the game is ready (looking at the state of ACM, if Sega had said this even more than they already did, would the game have been any better, or would Gearbox simply have taken the piss even more?). With dev time already being very long, Sega's only real choice was to either release or not. If they don't release, that's six years of money down the toilet. Sega can't afford to do that, they're not Activision or EA, who can shut down projects and sack/reassign the entire dev team without flinching. What we're seeing here isn't a little dev studio being bullied by the evil publisher into releasing a game before it's ready. What we're seeing is a dev studio biting off more than it can chew due to greed, focussing on what it's known for (Borderlands), and neglecting another project, outsourcing the work and creating a messy, shitty game. I'm the first to beat the publishers with a big, shitty stick, but Sega must have been very patient to wait 5/6 years only for Gearbox to still serve up a turd. Space Voyager
But they (SEGA) decide when the game should be published. Either they didn't see E3 demos or they just wanted go because of the title. Which shows that game publishers treat their customers like shit and many people want to be treated that way. True in a way. I'm sure SEGA was getting fed up with Gearbox after all this time and they decided it was time to get the game out. If the game will stay a failure, SEGA might even take legal action against Gearbox...
silencer_pl
Well someone somewhere did make a change from what was shown on the E3 a YEAR ago and what we have TODAY, and someone had to approve it.
FullAuto
Yes. And who is it that develops the game? Is it Sega, or is it Gearbox? And, once you know who made the game, you know who made the changes. Or do you think a year ago, Sega said "This game looks good. A little too good, to be honest. Can you shitty it up a bit?" Gearbox make changes, and five years down the line, Sega are shitting themselves because the longer development goes on, the less likely they will ever see any money from the game, ever. After five years, Sega have their head in their hands, weeping. They can't go "Hey, this looks worse, go back to how it was last year." because Gearbox will make a frowny face and say "But that will take time..." Sega do not employ crack QA assault teams who rappell down through the skylights, stick a gun in Randy Pitchford's face and demand to see the latest build. Sega have a meeting with Gearbox. Gearbox give a presentation. "The game looks like this. It has this checklist of features. It is x% complete. Yes, it looks worse, because we have implemented loads more of the stuff. So much stuff. We can patch it later, for cheap." Space Voyager

Thorondor
I finally finished Aliens: Colonial Marines, after reading much about the game (like Ben Richardson’s Aliens: Colonial Marines review). Turns out, that twist I was hearing about — it was totally obvious. And the ending that everyone hates? It really is terrible. And that “true sequel” story Randy Pitchford was touting for a year? Yeah, it breaks the movie continuity hard. :: A very SPOILERY, in-depth look into how the new game "Breaks the 'Aliens' Story" at Game Front. Space Voyager
Now THIS... is SAD. It is possible to get through most of the game on all difficulty levels (vid showing one section) without firing a single shot, just run past the xenos... Players testify that only the WY mercs stop you from running through the whole game. Graphics ok, I don't care much, but this...
