Jman4117
This is what it looks like with the 640 base screen and 1024 battle map. It's only really viewable in fullscreen.
Thorondor
I'd say it looks fine overall. Text is a little blurry, but that's not much of an issue as the mechs, buildings and terrain all render quite well at this resolution. :: Nicely fought too, managing to keep both of your mechs in one piece to the very end. Jman4117
AAR Summary: Ok, I'm going to try to do 3 missions in Mechcommander a week, and leave all the failures in. Should give me time to play on a weekend and do the AAR every other day in the week. If I fail like I did the 2nd mission I'll try to do the followups on consecutive days until I finish the mission. Would anyone like to claim a pilot, mech and loadout and have me play 4-6 with it? I was hoping that I would get better salvage, but I think I only managed to get a Commando and failed at anything else. Not getting the Uller and Hollander are huge blows... I'm also going to do an Ascendancy AAR in parallel with MCG. I'm leaning toward playing as the Govorom (the nature spirits) and playing like a hippie stoner unless anyone wants to see something else. Jman4117
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/Smiley/dance.gif Which would you like? There should be some Commandoes, a Firestarter and a Raven at the start of 4, there might be enough credits to buy one of the mediums. Probably easiest to just pick a weapon range and build it from there with what's in stock.
Space Voyager
Can I be some sort of scout? I've seen enough fighting from up close in your Cyberstorm AAR, I think I'd just like to watch from a distance.
Jman4117
ok, I'll put you in the Raven with long range weapons and the pilot best on sensors
Jman4117
oooo-kay...wish I had recorded that practice session with MCG. I tweaked my strategy slightly for Mission 5 and beat it easily, then I went to Mission 6 and pwned it, then went on to O2M1 and had this totally suspenseful mission where I barely achieved the objectives. Siren and Lynx were forced to eject, and Hitman was killed, but Hunter and the mech we were there to rescue made it to the extraction point with armor falling off their mechs...EPIC! On the Ascendancy front, our hippie heroes spread the love to alien planets, news at 10.

Jman4117
I'm learning how to play Master of Orion for an AAR after the current Ascendancy one. Any input as far as races and difficulty go? I can play as the better ones like the Klackons, Meklar and Psilons up to about medium difficulty so far. I'm leaning toward Meklar or Alkari as the Psilons and Klackons are just plain overpowered. Another possibility is playing as the Darloks and having everyone hate me while I steal all the tech I need and commit acts of sabotage and blame it on others until I get my footing and strike out at the other races. Edit: Ok, maybe not the Darloks, I just had the Klackons and Alkari take everything around me and leave me trapped with only 3 systems..Managed to backstab everyone and provoke a major war by framing everyone for stealing tech, but I never got out of those three worlds and got wiped out when everyone turned on me at once
Space Voyager
Whooooo, I admit I can't remember much of the races... That is too long ago. Which one are you playing anyway?
Jman4117
Darloks allied with the Klackons atm, everyone else has been genocided.
Jman4117
I've just finished the first operation of Mechcommander and I'm going to take a break from it for a couple of a weeks to do more Ascendancy, start on Master of Orion and maybe something completely zany like Liberal Crime Squad or SimIsle on the side to relieve boredom. In MoO there are the following races:Humans - Diplomats and traders. Everyone generally likes you and you make more money than others on trade dealsDarloks - Master spys and saboteurs. You're generally hated by everyone and deeply distrusted.Meklars - A race with improved factory controls allowing for more factories. Roughly two levels worth.Klackons - Another race with improved production, only each colonist counts as much as a factory for production.Psilons - Master scientists. Incredibly overpowered if they are allowed to advance in tech.Silicoids - A race that can live on any planet. Downside is their population grows at only half the normal rate.Sakkras - A race that has double population growth. Great for wave attacks on other peoples planets.Bulrathis - A race that is superior in ground combat. They get a +20 bonus.Alkaris - A race with more maneuverable ships that are harder to hit in combat.Mrrshans - A race with superior gunnery. They are the absolute worst race in the game.My favorite races are the Meklars and Klackons, but I'm open to other requests. If I start LCS, I'll probably name people in the game after anybody that wants to play along. It's a text based game where you're a radical liberal running a revolutionary gang. It might be a little extreme for here, idk. There's some videos of it being played on youtube. If I play SimIsle, I'll probably play it freeform and show off different ways of making money by exploiting your island.
Jman4117
Ok, I nearly have the MoO AAR done. Roughly 1 more post, then the Finale. I am now in dire need of an X-com fix. I'm thinking of playing a heavily modified UFO with all the new craft options turned on in xcomutil so that I have the Interceptor and Firestorm as my primary drop ships. The Skyranger will be simply a scout, and only used to transport if the Interceptor just doesn't have the range. The Lightning is out of the picture and the Avenger will only be used for the final assault on Cydonia. Any further mods to the game requested? I'm going for difficulty here, and forcing small units. Max of 6 on the Interceptor, and max of 10 on the Firestorm.
silencer_pl
You can have so much in Interceptor ? Why not bump up the difficulty and play only with stun rods Also I think you forgot Govorom Ascendacy AAR right?
Jman4117
Yes, xcomutil Interceptor holds 6 troops. As for Ascendancy, I ran out of content there and would have to play to get more, and I'm at the boring nearly dominating stage where it's just not that fun. Maybe later. Jman4117
If I were to play the new version of Liberal Crime Squad after the bugs get all worked out, would an AAR of it be too over the top for the boards? It's a text based game where you're running a left wing activist organization. You can go anywhere from Ghandi tactics to mass murder and terrorism to get your point across. It's generally cheesy, especially when you're seducing sleeper agents and to a certain extent if you were say, torturing/brainwashing them even. If I had to give it a rating it would probably be somewhere between Teen and Mature, but only because it's text based with no real graphics to speak of. Jman4117
Does anyone know if the Master of Orion II on GoG is one of those things where they package the game with dosbox or if it's the windows version redone to work with the newer versions of windows?
silencer_pl
I believe that dos games are left for dosbox while only windows made games are upgraded so they can be run on current systems.
Jman4117
From what I've gathered from looking around it seems to be the dos version packaged with Dosbox, so hopefully I can play around with it and see how it works.
Jman4117
With Colonization finished and X-com nearing completion, there's time to play something new! First up: Master of Orion II:https://img16.imageshack.us/img16/5074/orion2000.pngIt works! Dun dun duh! https://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6356/orion2001.pngIt's similar to the first game except that you have more choices to pick from at the start and the ability to colonize several planets in your systems. New on this screen are the Tech Level and the Galaxy Age. For tech you can pick from pre warp, the normal level and advanced. Pre warp means you have to research things to even leave your starting system. Advanced gives you numerous advanced techs. Galaxy age lets you pick from a setting with more productive planets, average planets and one with planets with more productive ecosystems. https://img826.imageshack.us/img826/7277/orion2003.pngAfter this, is the option to pick a race. Of note is the option to make a custom race, but that's not available until you go up a few difficultly levels. As I haven't played this before at all, we'll be saving that for another playthrough, or maybe the first AAR if I get a few test games in with the.. https://img341.imageshack.us/img341/956/orion2004b.pngKLACKONS! But hey, playing this blind as AAR #1 would be fun for everyone's enjoyment! Liberal Crime Squad:https://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9808/screenshotliberalcrimes.pngNext up, is Liberal Crime Squad. It's a text based game originally made by Bay 12, but continued on within a community of volunteer developers. About a month ago, a new version was released to fix some bugs and refine the game a bit. They also added in bank heists! This is yet another in a long list of legal and illegal activities that you can send your liberal guardians out to perpetrate! https://img201.imageshack.us/img201/9808/screenshotliberalcrimes.pngNow onto beginning settings. Here we have 5 options to refine the gameplay. A is the default game setting, you start in a moderate leaning country with noone out to kill you. Think of it as Easy. Next we have B, this adds in a rival gang, the Conservative Crime Squad. They are not too difficult to defeat, but even more of the laws lean conservative and it takes longer to push them back over to Elite Liberal. C...this is the hard difficulty. Nearly all laws are Arch Conservative and the police are replaced with death squads. This means that pretty much anything your liberals want to do is illegal and is punishable by death! D and E, those are newer options. They are there mainly to limit what you can do in the political system. D prevents you from passing term limits to force out members of congress while E prevents a Constitutional ammendment to deport all the Conservative members of the Supreme Court. https://img577.imageshack.us/img577/9808/screenshotliberalcrimes.pngAnd of course, we wouldn't be playing it any other way! https://img856.imageshack.us/img856/9808/screenshotliberalcrimes.pngAnd here is where the main character is created. All options can be played with, but A, B and D are random every time you press the button. Fear not! You can choose your own name to be known amongst your people as well as your gender label! And for E, I shall post all the options at once in the AAR thread and let you guys pick out my screwed up childhood!
