The Veteran
Ok guys this is another little snippet of my grand plan but I need a little help! This is really a tiny percentage of what I need to do to achieve my perfect end result but I still want to get it right because at this point I'm thoroughly pleased with the rest of the project! So anyway, I don't need much but I can't do this myself... I want some screencaps taken from the intro movie of Enemy Unknown of the highest possible quality (I know that's not saying much!) I've already you-tubed it and the quality was awful and I couldn't precisely control the speed either so that's out. My little lappy can play the video for me but I'd have to print screen and rewatch the whole intro every time I wanted to save an image so that's out too. This comp can't run the intro straight off the cd so I can't use that method either and even if it could I have no screen-capture software so wouldn't help much anyway as I'd still be stuck copy-alt tab-pasting and restarting over and over! I don't want much, just the screens that show the rotating image of the 3d city, the whole warning, warning, ufo detected part really. I'd like to see it in wireframe and fully rendered (haha) from as many angles as possible. If you can help me please do! You can email me anything you find and I'll let you know what I need them for as it'll only take an hour or so to do it with the right screenshots. It's very simple Thanks guys!!!! Pete
Bet you a tenner you're going to build the wireframe out of matchsticks, mount it on a turntable and spraypaint it green. It's what I'd do if I didn't suck at model making (and wasn't so lazy/impatient/easily distracted).
The Veteran
Haha not quite Pete but I am going to make it just not for real this time! Because I got this laptop to serve solely as an XCom platform I'm customising everything I can about it. Want to replace the crappy boot screens that windows has given me with some XCom ones and the first one is at startup. Going to use the UFO DETECTED screen to replace it but it's impossible to get a good screenshot of it (even for my little 12 inch screen ) So I'm making a new 3D model of it in Sketchup then I'll print screen it and add some writing etc and use that instead I'm halfway done actually but only half of the buildings are really anything special so a lot of it is guesswork. I've replaced a virtually invisible building with a church which is nice but I don't think I'll take the shot from that angle so it's a bit redundant haah. Anyway I only have 6 more buildings to place so I'll put up some screenies when I've got it and see what you guys think
The Veteran
I said it wouldn't take too long and although it's done to my liking I've only got 1 row of brickwork done today and I don't see me getting another one done later so it's taken time away from something else which sucks a bit Still here are the pics, first the one I've taken as my example but I've changed some of the text (well the timing really as it's all correct except it's never usually displayed together like it is in my one)https://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs067.snc6/167791_10150134283331763_626026762_7800938_1563690_n.jpg And here is mine, with a little artistic license as always. I'd like a better map too at some point but can't think how to do it. Want a simple one like the original but it can wait (unless someone wants to make me one )https://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs255.snc6/180305_10150134289406763_626026762_7801014_8380800_n.jpg The more I look at these two next to each other the happier I am with the result Now I need to decide on a desktop background (gotta be Geoscape I'm sure) And a shutdown screen too... Will crack on with my brickwork first though as I'm being naughty stopping it in the first place :s
Thorondor
Nice job once again, Veteran! :: I may be able to provide some inspiration for the desktop wallpaper bit...
The Veteran
Wow! Sectopodage!!! Where's that from? If it's actually a phone with XCom on it I want to know where to buy it!
Thorondor
Hehe, that's actually a little comp I've made with assorted imagery from the Net in response to FA's unpackaging photo of his new HTC. Exclusive pack available only through StrategyCore! :: You can find the original 'Sectopodage' part of the art here.
The Veteran
Wow that's an amazing pic, who's responsible for the little gem??
Thorondor
An italian artist at DeviantArt, I believe. :: Make a search over there and you are sure to find some more X-Com fan goodness.
The Veteran
I found some really good stuff on DeviantArt when I was looking for concept artists for Colonisation a few years back actually. Some very cool stuff over there. I seem to recall one guy had recreated a lot of the Apocalypse ufopaedia buildings in full 3D. Looked very nice!
