Alright I have done my mission. Medium gilman USO. Almost flawlessly. Died only 1 soldiers - they earned the casualties - 5 aimed shots missed the bugger - although he had thermal luncher he wanted to share some of his sonic pulser at us.

Also if I am not mistaken we have 3-5 Disrupter lunchers at base - something that will make BB and NKF quite happy.

That'll make everyone quite happy mate, good work :oh: I've just played a chunk of Apoc but I guess I'll get back to it and do some TFTD as well now lol.

X-Com day today ;)

EDIT : Stunning mission mate, doesn't read like you went up against 15 of the buggers at all. You make it look so easy :P But now it's my turn lol, hope I don't let the side down!

EDIT EDIT : The save file is no good for me. Loads into the scrolling blue text crap then sends me back to whicher of my other savegames was last loaded. Someone else try it and silencer have a go at at resaving it in a different slot and I'll give that a go too... Till then I'll be updating the Apoc one

done it, will post up shortly but we have a problem which I'll let you know now. I got the otehr medium USO that was landed but at the end of the mission got a result saying 14 troops were killed when that's just not true (would've been everyone dead and lost triton right?) didn't affect anything but score so we can still use it. If not I saved just before entering the sub so reloaded and played from there which I saved in an additional file. So we need to decide which one to go with before I post it up. Lost 3 extra troops to a point blank DPL in the original and score was 368 due to -334 due to everyone apparently being dead lol I don't seem to have copied over the images I took from the 2nd playthrough but obviously score will be better (3 less casualties and no bugged result)

I'd say to be fair we should go with the first one as the only affect it will have is a lower score. If we use the second save it'll be a much better score but 3 soldiers will be magically revived... I put it to the masses. Will post again later but cooking now

If you've still got the save just before the mission ends, can you post it up here and see if one of us can complete it normally? We don't need the points, certainly, but I still don't think we should give that glitch any quarter.

By the way, fantastic work on the Fleet Supply Cruiser silencer_pl. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm starting to get tired of the Gillmen. However with the disrupter pulse launcher and the prospect of a second colony supplied by Gillmen nearby, I think I shouldn't be too fussy.

That'll give us perfect anti-Artefact site and anti-Colony weaponry that can let us clear the second level in an instant.

I have 3 save games, 1 from completing the mission with the bug and 7 deaths (bad I know, 4 got torpedoed in the face INSIDE the USO!) 1 with no bug and 4 deaths and one just before entering the USO which is where I replayed from after receiving the bugged score.

I have the 2 finished saves on this comp but would have to boot the other one back up to retrieve the part-way save. Glad I made that save after all this though lol I won't post everything up till tomorrow unless someone is desperate to see it but then I can do all 3 savegames and the results from both playthroughs.

The mission result thingy was a bit odd... Seven dead and it quoted double that? How many soldiers did you even have down there, anyway? If you already managed to complete the mission without encountering the bug, then I don't think uploading the save should be necessary; personally I'm happy to see things continued from there even if it technically breaks the Ironman rule. If it was intentional cheating on your part you wouldn't've bothered to tell us.

Well done to silencer, by the way, your mission went great. :oh:

More bad news I'm afraid ;) Just booted up the lappy to copy over the additional save files and game score images and the bug has spread lol

In the first playthrough (with no reloading of course) I get these results;

21 killed

27 recovered

3 alive

58 artefacts

14 deaths

for a score of 368 when combined with USO components.

I'd assumed that when I reloaded it (from the point just prior to entering the USO) the rest of the score was ok but I only checked the operatives lost to see that it was correct. Here are the results now I've double checked them;

11 killed

14 recovered

1 alive

32 artefacts

4 deaths

for a score of 310 points...

It seems to have lost all of the information from before I reloaded.

~insert brainwave here~

It hasn't lost anything, it's doubled everything in the first one... The total alien count for the first playthrough is 30 while the second is 15. Troops lost in the first are double the actual number while the second one is accurate. Even artefacts are nearly double and the only difference will be due to different use of explosives at the end...

So much as it pains me to offer up the game that lost 7 men against only 12 aliens (3 were dead on arrival) I think we may as well go ahead with it and then it remains a true ironman game. We need to know if this bug could repeat though so has anyone encountered it before? I didn't reload it once during the first playthrough and was only Alt-Tabbing for making my screenshots in paint. Not had the issue in any other missions and the false numbers have only affected score so we haven't actually lost all our troops or gained that many artefacts. It just says we have

I'm unfortunately out all day today so I can't post the update either way but here are the save files just in case you guys want to make a final executive decision and get moving again :oh: Otherwise I was going to suggest I replay the mission right from the start, before any interception was made so I'd have no prior knowledge that I didn't already have. I knew it was a gillman supply ship with torpedoes already afterall... Let me know and here are the files.

Game 1 is after my initial attempt with 7 losses but with the bug in play. Game 3 is the reload and only suffers 4 losses with no bug but the score is actually less. Game 6 is the spare save I made just prior to entry but there's not much left to do at this point and it can easily be done with no more losses which results in a total of only 3 casualties if played from here :P

So pick the game and carry on then I'll write up tomorrow or later this evening! I'll put a placeholder in the main topic just in case someone wants to post another mission before I'm done with mine.

Games

EDIT: I'm here with nothing to do for a while so I'm going to reload from the start and see if I can get a clean save out of it...

Ok crisis averted. Just started a fresh playthrough right back from silencer's savegame and everything happened slightly differently so I think it's safe to call it ironman still! Didn't even get the same mission so I'll post this one up and I think we can go from here.

When it comes to lobsterman tanks lower than displacers are just meat shields.

If lobsterman is very lucky it can survive 2 direct shots from Sonic Cannon - when it comes to blastas you need minimum 4 to take one down. 2 sonic frags make short work of lobsters.

If I had more Mag Ion Armor I wouldn't need that tank.

The Gas Cannon Coelacanth(s) we've been employing were always meant for scouting purposes anyhow. The fact it's been a major slayer of Gillmen in this campaign is completely coincidental.

On a side note, I must remember to do a reaction fire attraction comparison between the Coelacanth and Displacer one day.

Based on my experience with them in this campaign, it averages around 3 Sonic Cannon rounds or 2 Sonic Pulsers and a bit to take down our superhuman lobsterman pals.
