Bomb Bloke
Are you sure there wasn't a sonic weilding loby man hiding behind the stun loby? I don't like heavy guass. No indeedy. 'Cause most of troops can't carry the things. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/confused.gif Well, not quickly, anyway. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/hmm.gif Often I can research (and produce a squad worth of) the laser/gauss rifles just before or after the first UFO turns up. Then I ignore weapon research (unless I got nothing else to do, you gotta have those plasma/sonic cannons) until I got the subs, armour, medkits and psi. NKF
It was probably a glitch. Once, on a base defence mission, I had one soldier armed with a hydro-jet cannon. Since you cannot manually shoot the HJC on land, I let the soldier shoot it with reaction fire. If I recall correctly, it was loaded with a belt of AP shells. Now, the hydro-jet cannon generally has mediocre strength bullets, but for some reason, when the gun was fired and the bullets missed, they damaged the walls of the base. And I mean they blew the wall panels right off! The HJC doesn't normally do this level of damage - at least not that easily. It worked normally afterwards. - NKF
Bomb Bloke
Don't most things remove panels? I'm sure I blow the things away all the time... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/eh.gif
NKF
True, but, with the weaker weapons like the HJC, the panels normally get damaged first. In my case, it went from a perfect wall to a big gaping hole of blackness (it was on the edge of the map). HJC's are good, but I doubt they're that good. - NKF
Ki-tat Chung
just out of curiosity, what do you think is better, UFO autocannon, TFTD hydrojet cannon or apoc autocannon? yes, i know, tftd is for underwater only, but just for the sake of it, lets just say tftd hjc is land use as well. NKF
Hah, it's hard to compare them when they all do the same thing. I suppose I'd pick the one that looks the coolest. But for arguments sake, the Apocalypse autocannon is probably the better one - in terms of how much it can do - not because it has tiny clips or the fact that swapping between clip types costs practically nothing. The Apocalypse autocannon is probably the fastest 'auto' weapon of the three, considering the fact that the UFO and TFTD versions are the slowest auto-fire weapons in their respective games. This depends entirely on how long you perceive each game turn to be. Since we don't know for sure, it's a bit unfair of me to say that the apocalypse autocannon is better than the UFO/TFTD version. It just seems that way. If you wanted a really fast autocannon, look no further than the Enforcer's. Pity it's so weak and is only made to look good when used against the sheer amounts of cannon fodder that the game throws at you. Just imagine if you had the option to load a belt of incendiary or HE shells... - NKF

Ki-tat Chung
uhh....too bad it ain't possible in real life. miniguns/autocannons are just amped up machineguns in RL, arn't they?
Bomb Bloke
Sort of. They use the rotating barrels for cooling and timing issues. Only one barrel is used at a time, but since you are using a different barrel per round, you can spit them out faster with out fear of bullets colliding. Which means that you can use the technique for anything where you can justify it with a high fire rate.
