Games Industry in Unoriginal Shocker.

From Kotaku:

cue a new effect, the game’s camera hitching a ride on the bullet from his in-game rifle and, in slow-mo, into the enemy. That’s the moment that prompted Olin to use that “movie you can play” line.

Ripped wholeheartedly from Sniper Elite, which came out five years ago. Well done, chaps.

Post your own examples of games inbreeding!

Actually, I think Max Payne did that even earlier. Hit Bullet Time just before firing a headshot from the sniper rifle, and the camera will lock itself to the bullet's third-person view, riding the bullet from the barrel to the target.

And then again done by Bethesda in Fallout 3. A good portion of your shots in VATS mode will also go bullet-cam.

Indeed, though I think the bullet time was optional. I'm pretty sure it was guaranteed to happen if you managed to use the sniper rifle on a rat.

It's hard these days to find a game that isn't a rip-off of something released earlier. The only recent thing I can think of that would count as "new" would be the Wii's motion controls (ok, so it's not a new concept, but it was the first time it was done "well"), and Microsoft and Sony are now attempting to jump on the same band-wagon.

(This is a silly move, in my opinion. Everyone who wants motion controls would already have a Wii; Kinect would be useless for playing "real" games and seems to be a clone of the EyeToy, while Sony's Move controller looks so much like a black Wii-mote and nun-chuck that it's just not funny).

Another example; just recently I've been playing Overlord. Great game, and so much like Pikmin that it is funny. (Pikmin being a game that was quite original, again from Nintendo).

Good spotting!
