Difficulty comparison

I'm wondering if UFO EU Superhuman level is more difficult or TFTD Beginner level?

Technically TFTD beginner shouldn't be any harder, but the various adjustments they did to much of your starting equipment in TFTD as well as what the aliens are armed with do make the game much tougher.

 

The aliens start off with Sonic Pistols, which surpass anything you've got and are plasma-rifle in strength. Their later weapons only just get stronger. Their grenades are also the strongest grenades in the game. You on the other hand have a lot of weapons that have had their damage reduced, ammo lowered, or have underwater restrictions. The Gas Cannon and Thermal tazer on the other hand are considerably better than their counterparts in UFO, which is a reasonable consolation.

 

A lot of other adjustments increase the difficulty, like the aliens being able to start one module beyond the normal points in a base attack.

 

Really, the folks that put TFTD together deliberately tried to make it a harder game.
