inteck Posted February 15, 2003 Share Posted February 15, 2003 After researching Ion Beam Accelerators, (Ufo Engines by any other name) I am not taken to the manufacturing screen like most other critical sub components. If I go looking under the manufacturing screen after the research is completed on the accelerators they are not there, nor it seems are they available for manufacture. It is not as big a deal in this game as I usually have a much bigger chance of capturing them unlike the 1st game. All required research has been done so there is no reason for the engines not to show up in the manufacture screen. Did the designers intend for it to be this way or is this a bug that was never solved......In the 1st game you could manufacture all critical components after the research was done. If this was a bug in the research tree please let me know how to fix it. I have allready upgraded to the latest patch and it is still there. NKF Posted February 15, 2003 Share Posted February 15, 2003 This is definitely a bug. In one savegame (tftdv2), I could build the IBA. But after testing a few times in a brand new campaign, the IBA won't appear on the manufacturing list. inteck Posted February 15, 2003 Author Share Posted February 15, 2003 As with just about everything else, i'm going to make a guess that this is a research tree related problem in the geoscape.exe.......I'm also making another guess that Microprose, in their quest to save bucks, cut corners when screwing around with the research tree in order to give the game a little different feel than X-COM and didn't test the full impact of what they did.....Simple but incredibly iritating mistake. I simply just don't know where the offset is in the research tree or of for that matter what in the heck I would be looking for to fix it. If it is something simple like turning a 00 to a 01 in hex it would be easy to correct, but once again I don't even know where to begin to look. It's sort of like the problem of looking for the ammount of ammo the HWP's can carrry so as to modify them into something better.....It seems no one knows where exactly to look......Hopefully someone with the tek knowhow like Scott T Jones over at his site will look into this problem. BladeFireLight Posted February 15, 2003 Share Posted February 15, 2003 The next version of xcomutil (9.3) is suposed to have a fix for all the research bugs.. it works by checking what your have researched and fixing the currenly runing game the next time you enter combat. Now that the TFTD CE version has been split back into geoscape and tactical this is now posible. Scott just needs the reasearch file layouts for TFTD to complete this.If he doesnt figure it out soon i'm going to pause on my current project and do it for him.
