tijm6140
Hi guys, i just wanted to ask you: How often do you have base attacks. I myself have played the game for 5 years, and I have never, ever had an alien ship coming through my defences. This might be because I have never played far into the game because I was never able to get Manta and Ion Armour. So how about you? Do you have base attacks all the time? What is the average date for the first base attack?
Mike
I have only been playing TFTD off and on for the last year. UFO back when it came out. In that time with TFTD my experiences with base attacks depended on the way I played. At first I would shoot down everything I could, no sub went unmolested. Then in with the Triton and troops. This would eventually arouse the ire of the aliens and I would get a base attack in the second or third month. I would restart and now mainly use the follow and land method, taking the USO intact. Now that I do this I dont seem to get the base attacks, not even attempts. Either way base defenses are low priority for me and come late in game if at all. I prefer building my base with bottlenecks and slugging it out with aliens.
NKF
I've only ever had retaliation strikes (at the start of a new campaign, I mean -- later on the in game I get a bit sloppy ! ) after carelessly shooting down their ships when they are too close to my base. They never seem bothered about it if I take their ships intact with a troop-transport. My top record for the earliest alien retaliation mission ever was in UFO on superhuman. My base was attacked immediately after shooting down my first UFO (almost on top of my base, so there's no wonder -- probably a retaliation scout too, although I don't see why one would spawn so early). In TFTD, if I'm careless, the aliens tend to send in retaliation scouts after the first few USOs. Although it's never been as bad as the UFO experience. Also I noticed terror sites seem to crop up more if you attack their ships. In a test campaign I ran to research some of the 'bugs' in the TFTD research tree, using XComutil to keep X-Com in comission over the months, I passed an entire year with only 1 terror mission. Plenty of artefact sites, but only 1 terror mission. I only shot down a few ships early on to do a bit of testing in the battlescape, but for the rest of the year, no more ships were shot down. That's a bit odd when you think about it, since you usually get far too many terror sites in TFTD than a healthy person really needs. - NKF
Apoc868
I started a new game and like 4-5 days ( I think the of the first alien activity in game) and had a base attack. It really freaked me out mainly because it was on beginner. ( I just got TFTD last week so thats why its on beginner )

BladeFireLight
The new subs patch uses a different terrarin... It has to patch the .exe and only works on the DOS versions. Also It will overload the stack and cause the the game to crash on some terrains. -Blade FireLight
