FullAuto
Need a Blu-Ray player? Got $500? To you lot, $3,500. In a daring matryoshka-like move, it appears that Lexicon simply bought a batch of Oppos and put them in new cases. Lest you think we are being picky here, or that Lexicon somehow took the guts of the Oppo and redesigned the surrounding circuitry, let us clarify. If you open up the $3,500 Lexicon, you will find an entire Oppo Blu-ray player inside, intact, with its original chassis. Bargain.

Bomb Bloke
The real joke is that apparently the more expensive model got THX certification. Apparently, according to tests done by Audioholics (the guys who noticed the clone), neither player should qualify - though the cheaper one is actually a better machine, in that it's received firmware updates. Though I don't see why firmware updates for one machine couldn't be used on another. Warranty issues, probably. THX claims the machines are different, and that they actually worked together with Oppo in order to produce the Lexicons. And then their changes were ported back to the Oppos. Which, assuming you believe it, still doesn't explain why only one machine got their certification.
Sunflash
What annoys me is that this somehow allowed? I mean I know I don't know the whole story, but if you own both brands why would you bother with something like this if you DID own both brands or something silly. Civilian
What annoys me is that this somehow allowed? Or to be more precise: Greed. This story might be rather extreme, but things like that happen all the time in the business world without anyone noticing. The only reason why this was discovered was a blatant carelessness by the corporation producing the expensive version. Buy as cheap as possible, add a nice wrap and sell as expensive as possible, that's the way the whole brand name thing works. I bet there are several customers of the 3500$ version who still feel, see and think that their model is far superior to the 500$ one. Some people want to be lied to, however if you do not even try to hide your lies then you will lose their sympathy for you.
