Lymojo
I'm looking through the forums for more specific advice but so far I'm not coming up with anything, so I'm just going to ask. I'm playing Steam's release of X-COM and it's just terribly slow and laggy. Dropped frames all over the place, especially on large maps or when it's trying to "render" smoke. I've found some generic DOSBOX performance tips but none of them seem to be working for me. Does anyone have any X-COM specific advice about how to make the Steam version a bit more playable? Thanks in advance.
Bomb Bloke
There should be a way to launch the CE executable; I think you right-click on the game name within Steam and the option should appear on a context menu? The CE version of the game runs in Windows, as opposed to within DOSBox, so it requires a lot less processor power. Doesn't (easily) work within Vista/7, but if your computer was running one of those later operating systems, I'd assume you wouldn't be having speed issues in DOSBox... Nice, I actually just got back from another thread where the CE thing was mentioned. I'll try that tonight and see how it goes. Also, is there anyway to permanently delete a game from Steam? Like, when I get addicted and have to go cold turkey? Used to be there was a day when you could snap your disc in half and bury it in the yard. Pete
(I split this out into a new thread as it was only loosely related to the topic it was originally posted in. Should get more interest this way.)
Lymojo
So last night I looked in the X-Com folder, buried deep inside the Steam folder, and was able to find the collectors edition there. Now I'm having the opposite issue: It's TOO FAST! I can't do anything in battle mode because every time I try to scroll around my screen zooms off to the edge of the map in the blink of an eye.Any way to limit the clock cycles externally? I've already set all the speeds to their lowest settings in the options menu.
