Space Voyager
So once you develop AI, is there anything you can do to 'police' it, or do you just have to accept the risk? That 50% bonus seems well worth it, to anyone, quite frankly, so I can see a lot of rogue AIs in my future...You can accept the risk or not get it at all. You are strongly advised not to boost AI research as this increases the risk for an accident a lot and you can (as I did) reduce the number of turns by investing all into research. AI is definitely not one of those researches that you want to spend 20+ turns on. Each turn is a new potential disaster... The benefits are huge though so I REALLY wanted it, he he he! Sometimes you are lucky enough to get AI slaves opened right after researching AI. If that would happen I'd definitely go after it as you are safe from AI empire to be formed. And can safely research all AI techs. As it is I don't feel like risking more than I already did. These two are very nice by themselves.
FullAuto
So AI slaves eliminates the risk? Still a very cool option though. Good old AI rebellion.
Space Voyager
It does - IF you get it. And Hivers are by no means the most likely to get it. If you push into it too much you can loose it all. If AI rebellion is triggered a large part of your empire is lost and becomes AI empire. If this happens ALL AI bonuses are revoked! No more faster research, no more extra dough and good by a lot of colonies. You would be advised to research AI virus (again, IF available and it is in this game). This would destroy a portion of AI empire and give you some bonus against AI ships. You can destroy it without, too, but MUCH harder. I've had games where I researched all available AI techs and not even get AI virus, sometimes I got virus but didn't get AI slaves. There is a chance to get AI virus through every AI tech. AI slaves are only possible to get through virus. And if you don't get AI slaves, you can not get your AI bonuses back. So the risk is really high. Not only do you have a good chance of being destroyed by your own creation but you have a pretty good chance of not getting your AI stuff back even if you happen to destroy the rebellion. Morrigi really are AI kings though, they have a 90% chance of AI virus through every AI tech that is always available and 90% chance to get AI slaves from AI virus. Mind you, experience proves that 90 is not 100, he he he! This is why I don't really want to poke into AI any more. I'm just glad things worked out with Puppet Master as they did. Role playing with ballistics and impactors paid out A LOT. I'm not sure what happens if any other empire gets AI rebellion. We might find out, there is enough time. There is so much stuff in this game that I forget things I already knew... EDIT; so much writing for something that could easily be described with a tech tree with tooltips. AI technologies are to the far right.
Space Voyager
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-6.jpgOur first cloaked fleets are dispatched! Three at once, all having the composition you see in the pic. What is interesting in this pic is that they are all set to arrive in two turns! That is the huge benefit farcasters gave us. These can teleport our fleets in a single turn up to 10LY. Check the description I posted earlier. This is how they look (well, don't look as far as Morrigi are concerned) at the enemy world!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-5.jpg What we fear this the worst is being completely ballistics dependant. We pack a HUGE punch, granted, but a high-tech destroyer spam or deflector equipped ships would probably destroy our fleets with no problem. Deflectors more so as we have AP rounds, good at DE hunting due to their accuracy. To answer that problem we went for the most powerful weapons energy has to offer.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-4.jpg Believe me, that is LUCK for Hivers. The percentage for individual tech roll seem high (all over 50%) but to get all three is not common. These grant us much heavier command sections for cruisers and dreads, both had to rely solely on impactors so far.
Space Voyager
Ok, previous post wasn't short because there would be no more material. I had to go attend an unexpected presentation. Fight goes on. I have to admit that the surgical strikes did not go completely as planned. Of three attacks only one managed to destroy the Clans of Fire Lotus' gates. We only lost two ships during the attacks but finding those gates is a problem as I didn't include any deep scan ships - and those gates can be placed on the opposite side of the colony. In that case it is a problem getting to them in time to destroy them even if they have no guards. Clans usually have a DN guarding the gates. Anyway, we're adding Mimikrija deep scan cloaked DEs to our fleets to find the gate faster. As a test I left both fleets that arrive on the second turn (the third one missed as farcasters are not 100% accurate) and waited what will come through those gates. This came.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-1.jpgThe other gates were equipped with similar forces. I'm not that worried by the sheer number - though it is impressive - but by the gate capacity Clans posses. HUGE fleets were teleported. About that size 10 Morrigi world...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0016-4.jpgIt is now my pet project. I want it habitable and inhabited by Hivers. I will leave it to be an independent colony, this way they can slowly Morrigiform it, also making it possible for us to populate it. If the enemy Morrigi empire takes it it will only speed up the process. I give pretty big help to NAP-ed Morrigi. Perhaps we can get an ally and they seem to be loosing against the enemy Hivers.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0018-2.jpg We also start a joint research project - I'm giving them AP rounds.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0019-4.jpg What we know so far.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0021-1.jpg Heh, what you see is enemy ships firing blindly onto where we used to be. It also reveals that Morrigi have Advanced Cloaking! They can fire and stay hidden, which we can't! Luckily they didn't field any deep-scan ships so they didn't see us. Due to our Mimikrija DEs we see them.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0022-2.jpg FI NA LY. Somebody likes me enough. BTW, I am not blindly offering diplomatic solutions, they did send us a nice message when their relations improved enough. They would probably offer alliance themselves sooner or later.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0023-5.jpg They came up with a suggestion;https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0025-4.jpgREJECT! Where would be the fun in galactic peace so soon? The other alliance would most likely reject anyway, but so do I to stay on the safe side. This story is not yet finished! So DO stay tuned! FullAuto
Morrigiform Hehehe, like it. Rejecting an alliance with the top dogs, eh? Even if it was unlikely to succeed, brave move, sir, brave move. That seems like a pretty impressive fleet for a first response, 12 DNs and 1 CR. I hope they don't have larger forces en route. Space Voyager
The occasionally send a fleet of like 10+ DNs. They are obliterated by impactors. But the first response is usually the full response with Hivers as they can move whole fleets in a turn - so why not move it all if it is needed there? In the next turns I'm guessing both will start fielding deep scan ships and than I'll have to go deeper or attack on multiple fronts. With the money I'm making right now I can definitely spam CR fleets and attack more or less everything in 10LY range to make good use of farcasters. I'm just surprised the other Hiver doesn't have them.
Space Voyager
My cloaked and deep-scan equipped fleets are nearing their destination... And the picture is grim indeed.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-7.jpg What was once a leading empire lays now in ruin like something Asimov would come up with. Let's say we are the force that will set the Foundation back to Hari Seldon's tracks. Oh, we can help and by mother Queen we will! BTW, I hated my Hollywood inspired designs more and more so I decided to name them after you guys. More precisely, after you who ever posted in my AARs. See your ships!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-7.jpgLet this be a hint to others that may wonder in here occasionally or purely by chance of misspelling something unimaginable in a search engine of choice. THINK about it... You can have a STARSHIP CLASS named after you! Thorondor just had to get that CnC, he proposed cloaking after all. And Full Auto for ships that carry most firepower... FULL AUTO... no brainer. Ah, just to show how my income pie is divided right now;https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0009-2.jpgThis seemed like the best time since I have both kinds of help and a special project going on. HE HE HE This is at the end of the same turn. SAME FREAKING TURN.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0017-3.jpgThis world is cursed. CURSED I TELL YA! Thorondor
Another great episode, SV. What a roller-coaster ride! Space Voyager
We repopulated the cursed world. The nice addition of indigenous Morrigi population is sadly gone.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-8.jpg What we are doing right now is producing cloaked fleets and are sending them to destroy Clans' gates. Than we bring in the heavy cavalry and destroy the lot. Or... that is what we are trying to do. Things don't always go as planned and enemy gates are more often than not on the completely other side of the colony when it is not their own. An attempt to get to enemy gates in time:https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-5.jpgThorondor is sneaking past both defending fleets on the second turn, so the enemy was already notified of our arrival. At last our first gate across the galactic arm is deployed!https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0006-6.jpgWe start sending cloaked fleets to take care of neighbouring gates. Coming this far we also have a complete view of the galaxy.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-4.jpg The process of surgical gate removal has started.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-8.jpgAlso we find a niiiiiice planet to colonize. Our new look.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0012-4.jpgWe added heavy combat lasers to impactors to complete the picture. I started a population program;https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0014-5.jpgThe goal is for Morrigi to slowly take place of extra Hiver population that is destroying planetary resources. But the damn trickle is SOOOOO slow... On worlds that face the loss of resources I'm going full change even though it means loosing trade routes for quite a long time. I won't bother with constant resource gathering just for them all the time, we have enough money to afford this luxury. A Hiver-Hiver battle.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0016-6.jpgBoth sides try to destroy the other's gates while keeping our own in place - this would mean fresh reinforcements for the gate holder the next turn - and none for the looser. More often than not both gates are destroyed. But pics don't do justice to late game battles. So we filmed some action!

This concludes the episode, yet I did prepare a small treat! A serious threat and dread at the start of the game and a nice surprise in the stages of the game we're in - the Swarm Queen and its companions. Space Voyager
Thanks, Thorondor. It is great to get some feedback, didn't expect it when I started really. About vids... They could be better but I try to take them with as little hassle as possible. The good side is that you see how the game really is played instead of a Bollywood movie. Sadly the Queen dies so fast I wasn't even able to get back to it. I hoped to get some action on her part, too, but she didn't have a chance. Poor thing. BTW, I actually did post a suggestion on growing Swarm at Kerberos' forums. Not that they have the extra time to actually realize such a cherry on a cream but it seemed like something I must suggest, he he he! Anyway, I'm glad you folks enjoy the AARs. Space Voyager
Our cloaked fleets are destroying our enemies all over. They do carry the biggest burden in casualties, too...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0003-8.jpg With huge DN fleets you can come out with no losses while this is harder to be achieved with cruisers. Still, the pay-off is big. Heh, tell that to all the destroyed Full Autos! NOT our ship.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0004-8.jpg Sadly the AI is not really able to put cloaking to the best of use. Even if it did... Deep scan ships render cloaking practically useless. So I wonder why the enemies don't put a DS ship to all their planets. This definitely should be the norm, jammers as well. You have to admit, this is one HUGE mobility...https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0005-6.jpg Research;https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0001-9.jpgIf we are to go for drones, MW missiles will help. What I need to do is create as much PD crowd as possible. Let enemy PD be flooded with missiles to give our drones a bigger chance of survival. So we create our first drone designs.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0007-5.jpgIn the memory of... Kraljica roja. Meaning Swarm Queen. Not carrying drones itself it does carry ordinance to swamp PD. Roj (read like Roy). The Swarm.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0008-9.jpg I spent quite some time on these swarm designs. There is no stopping us any more.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0010-6.jpg Heh.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0011-4.jpgThe enemy Hiver is next to reading my mind. They created their own swarms before we managed to. Again, SADLY the AI is not capable to create utterly dedicated fleets. This DN came late, when their CnC ships were already destroyed. If you go swarm, you better go SWARM or it will not have the desired effect. That is why I created Swarm Queen and will accompany it with drone ships only - I want as many drones in the air as possible. Even if the enemy does have PD missiles, meaning very capable drone and torpedo killers, they shouldn't be able to destroy the lot. That is the theory. Just in case I dedicated some drones to laser PD so that they will, I hope, be able to destroy PD missiles. I'll let you know when we use them swarms. Just a showcase of Advanced DN Engineering. Not an actual design I'd like to use.https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0013-3.jpg EW section will most likely go to my Armada CnCs, you want those fielded but not en masse. And Support section will go to... well, DNs that you don't want to field. I wouldn't want to see the explosion of that flying oil rig. Than again... Flag Central Command is not finished yet, so no Flagship pics for now.

I started filming the fight but really... This is too much. Not only because it is several turns long fight but also because I felt you need to experience this yourself. I'll take some pics for those who won't play the game evar but no movies. As a teaser though - an already promised VN berserker fight! You can stop watching at 4:25 though, after that we chased some ghost or whatever and I didn't manage to use the free video editing software to edit it, it has a very limited codec pool. Some VN HW pics incoming.
Thorondor
Our first drone fleet sees action! Looks awesome, huh?!Very nice indeed - I agree. Too bad it turned out a bit of a paper tiger by the time it was fielded. Also:https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b348/SpaceVoyager/SotS%20TAR/screen0010-7.jpg You remembered! Who could have told bug scientists have actually much healthier passtimes than their birdy counterparts... *puff, puff* Still, I noticed they're strangely no less prone to going overbudget. And, by the way, did you notice how much this schematic looks like a cool ship? :: Congratulations on your victory, SV-san!! p.s.: Celebration leads to population increase! 25 Gazillion count?! Civilian
That has to be one of the best Reviews/CamapignStories/AAReports I ever read. Many thanks for making this, SpaceVoyager.
Space Voyager
And, by the way, did you notice how much this schematic looks like a cool ship? Now that you mention it, it kinda does, he he he! And of course I remembered, those artistic gems are my favourite as well! That has to be one of the best Reviews/CamapignStories/AAReports I ever read. Many thanks for making this, SpaceVoyager. Sure, NOW you post! How can I name a ship after you NOW?! Meh, I guess I'll have to start a new AAR... Won't be instantly though, I need some break after all this carnage. I'll rest in Quake Live arenas. Thanks for your attention, guys, been a pleasure.
