Preda
It doesn't seem to work for me. I have the gold edition that you can get for free. Can someone give me a few hints on installing this sucker with the fix on vista?

Preda
I have managed to get rid of the black screen at startup by changing the name of the exe file into ufo defense.exe. but interceptions don't work. CAN SOMEONE ADVISE ME??
Slaughter
Get the complete packs from GamersGate or Steam, way less trouble You give way too little information. What do you mean the interceptions doesn't work? Can't you close in on the UFOs when you're engaged in combat? If so, that sounds like a bug unrelated to Vista. Do you use XCOMUtil or other mods? Preda
The game slows down when the fighter reaches the ufo, the view zooms in, and after a few seconds in which my cursor is gone, it reverts back and the fighter is still chasing the ufo. Basically, the interception does not take place, or takes place too quickly, consistent with bladefirelight's warning about his patch. except that I get the same problem without that patch installed, after simply changing the executable name. I don't have a credit card, so I can't buy from steam, because I would be sorely tempted to do so. STill, I prefer my free game, especially if I can fix it for vista. Pete
Potentially silly question, but is the Gold version the one with the Windows installer? If so then I don't think it can be run through DOSBOX which is the only way I know of to get it working through Windows Vista/Windows 7.
Slaughter
I fear Pete is right, that it's not possible to make the gold edition run in Vista. Regardless, I don't know much that can help you sadly. You can try compatibility mode and so on, but I don't think it will do you much good. Preda
So, how exactly can this game be played? I can get a collector's pack, but will that work?
Slaughter
If this doesn't work, the GamersGate and Steam versions (DOS UFO with DOSBox) should work in Windows 7 and Vista.
Gizamaluke
I gave up in the end and just bought a old laptop with XP on it to play my old games. I can't be doing with DOSBOX so this seemed like the only option left to me. Giz
Zombie
Better not be an older Dell laptop. I burnt out my video card and motherboard twice on my old rig (due to the fact the videocard is integrated into the mobo) playing X-COM. On my new(er) laptop the two are separate components. - Zombie
BladeFireLight
The game slows down when the fighter reaches the ufo, the view zooms in, and after a few seconds in which my cursor is gone, it reverts back and the fighter is still chasing the ufo. If the version of the patch you used has the CPU afinity part then it's possible to use a windows based slowdown program to get the interceptions to work. I found this choppy but functional. On Windows 7 this interception bug doesn't exist. -Blade FireLight
