Hey Veteran, that sounded charming!!

Quote: " I want these missions! I enjoy doing them, I promise absolutely NO reloads and I'll treat each of your soldiers like my very own! It should only take a day to complete. Two if you are very poorly advanced... But please send me your files!!! "

In my quick view on the new/old forun i've seen that you're having a lot of stuff in here, writing the fic, and helping Pete's team to run the site, congrats, moderator.

NCC-1701-F, it seams that you kinda like challengers. GO WITH HTH weapons!! They're nice and pretty functional, specially with lobsters! I love them! HTH rulls!

Veteran, Right now I'm on a shipping route terror mission, which I'll send you. I've only got 7 guys with 3 Tasoth dead and I civilian dead. Only 7 guys because I haven't bought more since the colony. (sonic blasta rifles)

It's actually 2 dead civilians, 2 dead aliens, which will be yours in 5min.

EDIT: Actually, I don't know how :P

2xEdit: Oh, also, 3 guys will get MC'ed like it was going out of style, so you really will only be able to use 4 guys for it. Oh and you'll most likely have to spend a turn taking the ammo out of the designating MC'ed guys and give it to the 4 good guys. In other words, it will take you 3 days once someone tells me how to send it or I figure it out.

Did he updated you yet??

Huh? Anyways, it's just a lot of restarts because those drone thingies have a decent amount of hp, huge explosion when they die, and like all the aliens, have awesome accuracy and reactions. Not to mention the tasoth take 1 aimed shot or two snaps usually.

Go to your save game directory and pack the save files together into a zip file with winzip, pkzip or some other compression program for example. Then attach the zip file to an e-mail, put in the right address, and off it goes.

Let's just say attaching one file zip file is a lot easier than attaching a lot of little files to an e-mail. :P

Then when Veteran sends the zip file back, just unzip it into the old save slot or into an empty one, and let it overwrite any files if it asks.

Voila.

I've been wondering...

What exactly are we voting for here?

Tough needs to be defined a bit more. Tough in what manner? Tough as in who can soak up the most bullets, or who is the trickiest to kill?

Also, what sort of circumstances are we in? Any alien can be tough or tricky to kill depending on a variety of factors.

For example, Lobstermen are impossible if all you've got are dart guns or gas cannons, but they're putty in your hands once you've got molecular disrupters and v. blades/t. lances. Tasoth are ghastly things to deal with if you know absolutely nothing about your soldier's psi skills, but they're no worse than aquatoids or gill-men if you've got a squad of soldiers with 80 or more psi defense.

What sort of tech level are we at? Do we know what our soldiers' psi stats are? Do we have molecular disrupters? What kind of weapons are we carrying? What sort of armour are we wearing? Is the alien standing on a weird slope, making it virtually indestructable?

Or is this just a popularity contest?

Inquiring minds need to know!

edit: Actually, I meant to post this in the other thread, but to appease the will of the Great Moderators™, has been put into this thread instead.

What he giveth with one hand he taketh away with the other...

So you're basically saying that everyone can vote for whatever they want but in this particular occasion they should vote for Tasoths? :P

Don't worry I know you wouldn't try to fix it! After all if I can't do it then nor can you!

My email is pantlessavenger@freemail.com.au and before someone asks no I do not live in Australia! It's just reliable as a spam address... :)

Igy go to a thread which I am about to make called Colony Crusade! Discuss your game in there as we are filling this topic with unrelated spam...

Sonic, Armour, M.C Disrupters. Right.

Once you've got MC disrupters, and are able to screen your troopers psi stats, your only real enemies are DPL launchers, surprise attacks from tentaculats and general carelessness.

If I were to vote, I'd vote for the Great Sleeper. Or whomever's sleeping in that casket. Causing me so much grief... even after I've won the game. Blast you evildoer!

I actually find Tentaculats to be quite rare, but yes, they are quite a menace. But if you have soldiers with good reactions, you can fend off the tentaculats pretty well. They behave almost like the reapers/chryssalids in UFO in that they'll break off and attack someone else or even just run in the other direction after being interrupted. The second opportunity shot will make them resume their attack, and the third will send them back at you again -- repeat ad infinitum until they run out of TU's. Odd that, but nice to know.

Thank goodness they aren't found on land missions. Their land counterparts, the calcinites, aren't so bad. At least they don't turn you into one of them and they cannot fly.

Dudes and dudettes... I am sorry to say but whoever said Deep Ones are hard... No. Deep Ones SUCK hard. I mean hard. Deep Ones are like the crap of all crap.

Deep Ones are Aquatoids that don't have MC, aquatoids that decided to get plastic surgery and look like pansys and then decided that the best way to fight would be to sit on a roof somewhere and look like a dumb@ss moron and arc their acidic piss over stuff to try and hurt people.

Deep Ones suck so bad, I can't even describe it. I'd have to say they are the WORST alien. Gillmen give me harder times than Deep Ones.

The toughest alien... Lobbie. For sure, and going with "Timmy the Tasoth", I'd say Tasoth takes a close second, Biodrone with a third and Tentaculat a close 4th, all things considered.

Tasoths can usually take just about as much hits as a Lobsterdude, plus they have MC. They are also noticably smarter than the lobstermen, but due to the unignorable massacre-counts from Lobstermen to my men, I'd put Lobbieman in 1st.

And actually, Deep One isn't the worst alien, Hallucinoid is. The Deep One at least has the guts to shoot their pee at people, whereas the Hallucinoid just sits there and looks like a floating loogie. But yeah, glad I got that out of my system.

Sure they're weak to Thermic Lances etc., but the problem is getting close enough to them to use 'em! And sometimes the darned guys just don't die when you slice them open, and you are usually out of TUs and you need to end your turn. I'd say it's better to just DPL them or shoot a couple of Sonic Cannon blasts.

Ha ha, today I killed a Lobsterman with ONE SHOT from a sonic rifle! Smacked right into his head and he fell and screamed. I've never killed a lobbie in one shot with a rifle.

With the random element in the game, it's not surprising that you can pull off some pretty fantastic stunts from time to time. You might have got it in its under-armour or some other weak spot.

For drill combat, you really want to couple it together with the MC reader. Find out how much TUs the alien has left before you make your approach, or find some way to exhaust it, or even think of a way to lure the lobsterman over to you. Or get into closer quarters, such as the bedrooms and cupboards in the liner missions and wait for one to pass by.

Several times now I've noticed that, for a solitary alien, if they haven't seen you, they won't know you're there. In UFO, I had a soldier safely observing a reaper inside a warehouse via a one-tile wide gap and another soldier went through side entrance and slowly crept up to it behind the boxes, making sure that the reaper never ever 'looked' at the soldier. It took a bit of time to pull off, but it worked. I thought it was going to rush up to the soldier once he got too close, but it didn't.

Speaking of the drills, for those who don't know, here's a list of TU% costs for each attack and the damage dealt. The TU percentage costs aren't listed in the Ufopaedia.

Vibroblade: 10% TUs, 80 damage

Thermic Lance: 15% TUs, 110 damage

Heavy Thermic Lance: 20% TUs, 150 damage

Yeah I was speaking of vibroblades, but Heavy Thermic Lances (if you have enough TUs, will DEFINETELY kill a lobbie. With their weakness to them and the gigantic damage of a HTL, there's no way they'll survive unless you are on superhuman and very unlucky.
