Which armor is better?

Which armor is better? Heavy Armor or Medium Armor with personal Shielding? This is a playthru with no mods.

It depends on what you want the soldier to do, how comfortable you are with their various walk speeds and sometimes even the weapons you're going up against.

 

A plain rifleman or sniper tend to want to be mobile, so medium armor and shielding works well for them. Heavy weapons users aren't going to be moving fast, so they want to be well protected with heavy armor and hopefully armed with something that can kill enemies before getting killed themselves.

 

The trend I noticed myself following when I was playing was to let humans go light with light or medium protection. This kept them mobile. The androids naturally toughed up to the point that they were nearly as well protected as heavy armor and had plenty of mobility to spare, so I took the option of keeping one or two regular androids on the team to fill the role I'd normally assign to a heavy armor human.
