Shabuti
Hi everyone. Ok, I just started playing this game and I am a little confused. When you take over a province with no base near it, you get no resource from it, even though there is a mine there correct? The only way to get a resource from a baseless province is build a track from your base to the mine. Therefore, is there any real need to take over the small provinces with no base, and indeed, why are there mines in these provinces in the first place, given that building a track costs more than what the mine would give you anyway? Am I overlooking something here? Do the small provinces become "countries" with a base after you take over enough surrounding territory for example? Like I have the Stuttgart base, but the "country" of Spain has no base, just a mine that gives me nothing. Eek confused.
Okim
Each country has several provinces one of which is the capitol. You can construct one base per country in its capitol. Try to capture port bases. London for example will allow you to access several south territories and even north america via sea lanes. Always try to connect bases in Europe over sea as it saves you a lot of maintenance. Each sea route can cover almost 3-5 tracks build on the land.

Shabuti
Thanks for the reply guys, Okim, when you say "Country" I guess you mean a number of actual earth countries grouped together right? Cuz like I say, even though I command the actual country of Spain, (and in game the actual country of Spain would be known as a "province" I guess?) I cannot get a base there, likewise Italy etc. Italy seems to come under the control of the Stuttgart base. So if I take over countries near spain, like portugal etc, do I then get a hub base for all these countries after I take over enough actual real world countries near each other? Palantyre
You don't have to build a track to the mine. Every base you control, if it's connected to the track network, gathers the resources from all the mines you control in the same area. So in effect, you only need to build tracks from base to base. So for example, the Stuttgart base gathers resources from Italy, and all other provinces in the Central Europe area, The Paris base from the other France provinces, and so forth, as shown by the green arrows here. The uncontrolled province in the pic belongs to France, I've just forgotten to capture it. And as far as I know, there are no mines that do not belong to any base. You might just not have discovered the base yet. And furthermore, yes, building a track to a mine before you have the corresponding base isn't resource effective at all. It might be needed if you have plenty of income of the other two resources, and really need the one in the mine, but that's rare. So if you control a few mine provinces you don't have the base for, put some effort in finding those bases. What I usually do is conquer most of the mines and their corresponding base before connecting the base to the track network, so they will not drain my resources by not having any resource income. Shabuti
Right, thank you! Got it and got it working but.... sat down to enjoy the game, started out nice, got some bases etc, built the right tracks.. had +50 income for both advanced cyborg and normal human resources but -10 for advanced alien which i was cool with because i know they are scarce and i would find some at some point.. anyway the minus 10 ends up making me have NO advanced resource so the tracks shut off.. no problem as I think i'll ask for some materials. I get the materials and tracks come back on.... but now I dont get any resource from advanced human and normal human mines?! All I have is the upkeep to run the tracks which means i'm at -50 for advanced and normal after being in the plus before the tracks went off? Aggh someone please help lol! Palantyre
... but now I dont get any resource from advanced human and normal human mines?!Hmmmm, this sounds very weird. I know asking for resources lowers your diplomatic relations, but I don't think it should affect the mine incomes... You sure you don't just have too few mines to support the track network or something? Or maybe at least some of the tracks didn't come back online afterall? I dunno... It's been a few days now since you made that post, anything new happen meanwhile?
