petecmartin
I was wondering how you edit certain things in the ufopedia? For instance I have altered a Ufo's map with the map editor, and I now want to alter its picture in the ufopedia. I can't for the life of me find where it is! Does anybody know? These are the images I want to get at! https://www.xcomufo.com/x1ufopaedia/ufos.htmlThank you, Pete
NKF
Get Daishiva's XCView from: https://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/index.php?dlid=716 The file you want to modify is in geodata\ under the name interwin.dat I think all you need to is export that file as an 8-bit bmp. Make your changes, then open the file as an 8-bit bmp with XCView, then save-as a 'geodata dat' file. - NKF

Bomb Bloke
That won't work - neither XCView nor PCKView handles that particular file. The only tool I know of that does is the one I put in my pack.

NKF
Well, the extraction's the easy part and that works fine. I haven't tested it, but considering the problems with pckview not being able to properly save any imported data, it's possible XCView may have similar problems. Bomb Bloke's utility may be the better option in this case. - NKF

Cheers.
Bomb Bloke
Take a look at my signature. Yes, there's plenty of documentation. I actually tried extracting the file with XCView - couldn't get it to work.

I actually tried extracting the file with XCView - couldn't get it to work. Thats bizarre? It extracted fine for me?!?!I've found your tools thanks! I can get them working to extract the PCKs etc but the colours come out weird when they get turned into gifs. I know this is using the wrong palette, is there a command I need to put in when I extract them? I used it on the bigobs.pck / .tab. Also, while i'm being a pain! Which file do I edit to change the look of the shots fired in the battlescape? i.e if I wanted to change the colour of the laser beam from Yellow to blue, how do I go about doing that? I know Smoke.pck in UFOGRAPH has the impact images, is it just a matter of tweaking those? Cheers!

Bomb Bloke
The PCK converters should use the palette of the game you extracted the tool pack into. Though now that I think about it, if you installed it somewhere odd, it'll probably end up using TFTD's palettes.

So I should have extracted it into my c:\Xcom\ folder. It doesn't have to live in any particular folder other than that? Cheers For the help! Bomb Bloke
That's correct. Half my tools rely on the actual game files, see. For example, if you decide to mod your UFO palettes (for who knows what reason), then my tools will pick up your customisations and use those when converting images. Because I'm too lazy to write an install program (hate using the things, too), instead of asking you where the game files are, the program just expects to be sitting in there with them. petecmartin
Does that mean that it wont work if the tools are in a folder structure like this c:\XCOM\BBS ? Or does it back track to the \XCOM folder?
Bomb Bloke
For best results, the tools should be in something c:\XCOM\bb_tact (which is where they'll end up if you extract the archive directly into your game directory). Some tools will work if you rename this, some will not.
