thecyke
If you're a fan of the game "Freedom Force" this may interest you. A full 31 level X-com mod recently became available, check out the homepage right here . I`ve played a little of it so far, and it looks promising. The floater skin in particular is quite good. **UPDATE** check out the news thread for this post to see screenshots!!!
Terawatt_99
cool are there any screenshots available? i don't have freedom force, but i might be able to convince a friend of mine to re-install his copy of it if it looks good enough... thecyke
Here you go. Please note the file sizes are quite large. I optimised them a bit for any dialup users, though the quality suffered a little. Still, you get the idea. As i said, i`ve only played a little but this mod seems to have a lot of potential https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff1.jpgFloater on the prowl. Note the squaddie icons. The armour seems to be Alliance inspired. https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff2.jpgCheck out the selected attack as being "snap shot". All the standard x-com attacks are there, "aimed" for example doing more damage and being a slower shot. https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff3.jpgAutocannon mayhem. Some episodes give you squad selection before start, where you can choose between a guy with a rocket launcher or for example the guy with an autocannon. https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff4.jpgX-com attacks chryssalid infected humans. THe squad is assisted by a computer driven tank (geez, i`ve forgotten waht you call those things in x-com ) https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff5.jpgChryssalid attacks! https://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~thelastoutpost/tlox/ff6.jpgAnother view of that bad boy!!! Hope these are of interest to people
Bastiaan
Wow it looks good, I ordered a copy of freedom force and already downloaded the mod, is this cool or what!
thecyke
Bastiaan, it`s even better than you think buddy. Freedom Force is one hella cool game (i dont think you`ll find a bad review of it anywhere) and not only is it a great game with levels where they fight off invading aliens(which is very x-com in feel trust me), some of the mods out there are great. Make sure you get the "suicide squad" mod for a realistic modern mod too!
Bastiaan
Yeah, I imediatly checked a review at gamespot Cyke, it got a 9 there,so the game itself is good too, and the one who made the mod had a good look at the Alliance screens, look at those soldiers, there great
Bastiaan
An unfortunate moment to make it now though, everyone moved to UFO: Aftermath, because it is just out, so this game misses it's deserved attention I guess.
thecyke
true, but the x-com mod is free so hopefully people will enjoy it after whupping alien butt on aftermath
Bastiaan
That's right, they will come back, in our hearts we all love x-com , and then there will be this nice surprice lying here, but untill I receive my Freedom Force copy, I will be playing Aftermath, because it's really cool, gonna kill me another grey family. Strong Bob
true, but the x-com mod is free so hopefully people will enjoy it after whupping alien butt on aftermath Considering a good portion of the X-COM community are mere piracy scumbags, I wouldn't be surprised if this mod got more attention on that reason alone. :hmmm:

CONTROVERSIAL !!!! On a related note, i STILL often see NEW copies of x-com games on EBAY :inlove:
Strong Bob
I'm not kidding. About 70% of the people I know that play X-COM got it off of Kazaa, claiming that they're too poor to pay the six bucks the games cost in unison. It makes me pretty angry sometimes. :hmmm:
Jim69
The scum! How dare they not pay for the CE which doesn't work without a patch not even created by the designers but a fan of the series. Let's round them all up and shoot them Of cause they don't pay for it. Why should they? Why should I? I paid my money over 10 years ago, you expect me to pay it again just because it doesn't work on my system? Yeah right, lets all just give our money to Atari, I mean it's not like they won't offer any technical support from any of the X-Com games is it? Get your facts right m8, just because someone downloads a game that is 10 years old doesn't mean they don't buy other games that DO offer technical support and actually work by themselves. Rant over
Bastiaan
Wasn't this thread about a mod?! You should start a "Do not copy games topic".

Rant over If you paid for it already then I have no problem, because you already own it. And they are still providing tech support by the way check the Atari site. Also age means next to nothing, just because a game's 10+ years old doesn't justify practically stealing it. But now... Back to the topic. hmmh...this looks VERY interesting....i've never heard of "Freedom Force" nor have i played it....do i have to have it in order to play with this mod? Of course you do. It's a great game on it's own, just think of a cliched comic book version of X-COM.
Bastiaan
Hello Knight, glad you are showing interest, as it is a mod for the game I assume you need to have the game and then install the mod, thats how it usual works, I ordered my copy at amazon, and when I get it I will play the mod first so Cyke can correct me if I am wrong, yes you need Freedom Force to play it.
thecyke
yeah, you need the original as it`s not an official add-on, or sequel or follow up or anything. Just a fan made set of missions and gfx etc. An official sequel has just been announced for Freedom Force, so it`s a great time to be getting into the franchise ! Strong Bob
They sure do. I've found it up front on display cases many times at the local Electronic Boutique.

thecyke
He`s talking about FF. I`m not sure but it should be on budget release, the game is easily 2 years old now (dont let that put you off, the gfx are great). Could you USA folk not buy a brit version of UFO:AM off ebay.co.uk etc and ship it over? (if you`re dying to get it, that is)
Bastiaan
It isn't available in the Netherlands either, I ordered it in the UK too.
