Zombie
Ok, I finished a few missions so far (mostly random encounters and such) and just started on the English Mansion. The first dry run went badly as my squad was completely surrounded and most of my team only had rifles. After switching to an all-sub machine gun loadout, it's going a little better. Still, there are waaaay too many enemies crawling out of the woodwork on this map. Anyhow, I was looking at my Grenadiers stats (in the Character Panel) and noticed she had a flashing + over the Abilities button. In fact, all my troops had this. (They are all Level 3+ right now). So when I clicked on the flashing abilities button the ability tree shows up and it lists I have 2 Ability Points to play around with. Trouble is, I can't seem to figure out how to apply those banked points. Looked in the manual but it isn't very clear. So on my Granadiers ability tree page I clicked on the Ignore Wounds button which lowers the APs to 1 and colors the Resist Critical. So then I clicked on the Resist Critical button hoping to get to the "Resist Critical Severity" icon to be colored. Nope. It took away the last of my APs and then proceeded to gray out the other top-level buttons too! What the heck am I doing wrong? Do I need more AP's or something? Whatever the game is doing to the tree is completely counter-intuitive to me. Once something is colored, it should stay that way. And it shouldn't be taking away APs for nothing. (Well, to be honest I haven't actually compared the stats of my Grenadier before and after the APs are applied so I may be wrong. But still... I'm not getting it.) Enlighten me please. - Zombie
Slaughter
You mean the AP screen here? You receive APs when you gain levels, and there should be an indication as to which abilities you've chosen. The screen is greyed out when you've used all APs, but there is an indication of some sort I'm fairly sure (game not installed right now, can't remember what). Because you have no APs left, the abilities you can't buy are greyed out. 0 APs = You can't afford any of 'em.

Ok, my grenadier just jumped to level 4 after a succesful conclusion to the English Mansion mission. So now she has 3 AP's banked. Just fooled around with the abilities screen for a good 2 hours and I think I figured it out now. I guess I was under the (mistaken) impression that since the top level icons are colored, that my grenadier has those abilities (like "stock" abilities). I guess she doesn't after all. Only the framed buttons you click on you will get. So a false alarm I guess. Still, it's not explained very well anywhere. Otherwise I wouldn't have needed to spend 2 hours researching how it works! I'd much rather be playing honestly. - Zombie
