one11
I'm yet another die hard Turn-base junky that *JUST discovered SS. It still boggles my mind that i didnt see this one years ago - especially considering the high volume of games i buy! But hey - happy me - I get to enjoy this JEWEL today Here's my question: Howecome none of my character died or were sent to the hospital ? I'm up to the 8th mission so far and in some missions, 1 or 2 got severely injured! But still, they were not even in the infirmary when i got back to base... Character death / hospital time is something i enjoy a lot - keeps me *scared during every mission (i restarted playing UFO:ET when i figured out I could have a "death" mod...) So what am i missing ? wrong difficulty level ? not "deep" enough in the campaign ? only possible in S3 ? Thanks for any insight N
justinstyles
Welcome, one11. I'm impressed that you can still find / buy a copy of S2 (I have located copies of S3, the expansion, occasionally on eBay). A few months ago, I gave up looking to purchase a back-up copy (I'm scared that I might be wearing out / damaging the CDs; I travel a fair bit and the "Silent Storm" series travels with me). Onto your query:your characters don't ever appear in the beds at the infirmary. They can be healed there by your character speaking to the medical staff, but it's instantaneous, as it were. As for your characters not dying, you are far better player than I; I've had dead teammates in the "easy" setting (S2) as well as customised difficulty (S3). I believe I read that one can have "dead" teammates "resurrected" at the easiest setting in S2 because they don't actually "die" but are unconscious and one can fetch them back to the base by literally carrying them, but I haven't accomplished this. Whenever they've died, they've died permanently (negative health).Perhaps someone will correct me, or better yet, clarify how to do the "resurrection". (granted, recently I play with five personnel (one less than the maximum team member limit) and experiment with tactics and character classes) There's a character who will appear in bed at the early stage of S3; any more detail might spoil things for you so please ask if you would like to know a bit more. one11
Thx - JS Talking about difficulty settings gave me the answer..when you roll over (for a bit of time...) the difficulty settings when you start a campaign, it clearly states that "normal" has next to no dying, hard has some, and impossible seems pretty "real" in the sense that if you are wounded and unnatended for, you *will die ! Did 2 mission on impossible and i must say it's quite thrilling! to know ONE full auto burst WILL end life ..on the third mission - everyone died - also have a feeling that the overall mission diff is largely upgraded on impossible - 7 soldiers arrived as "reinforcement" after some time on the mission zone needless to say that 7 guy coming from the back did quite a good job on me loll I think i'll do a lot of random encounters between each mission to get good weapons and to level up before attempting "real missions" again. This game is awesome! - too bad there aren't any "base building+research" and better level up - would have make it better than XCOM:UFO - making this game my favorite of all time!
