Well, I needed a Christmas present for 1952, so I decided I would quite like Burma.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/burmawar.jpg

In all fairness, it wasn't my fault, with it lying so seductively next to Siam, with no forces visible. I was compelled to take it. Using only my green para forces and some Siamese divisions (of men, not cats, sadly) I hit the country, and although ground progress was slow thanks to the jungle terrain and low Infrastructure, my paras made great gains immediately.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/bwar2.jpg

Burma's three inf divisions offered about as much resistance as a chocolate fireguard to a blowtorch. I was going to hold back my amphibious assault force for emergencies, but there aren't going to be any. Steamed in, no problems.

Even though paras are very expensive to have (research and production costs for paras and transports), they're very useful and speed things up so much they're well worth it.

Turkey is proving intractable. Got relations up to 200, they still won't let me into the Black Sea. It may be time for war very shortly. Again.

I also created Latvia.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/latvia.jpg

Buenos noches (Latvian for Hello)!

Once the furore over Latvia is over and my dissent is back to zero, it's time for good old Poland to be created. No point in creating Germany as half of it is owned by the Americans, but I may also create Russia as well, and offload a lot of this empty territory. The IC hit will be worth it.

Have you dipped your toes into Africa FA? Is there anything to be gained there or do the Americans/British have it under control? Got a couple birds-eye screenshots of Europe right now? I'd like to see what the state of affairs is. :oh:

Ze dark continent:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/africa.jpg

France controls a good chunk (purple), UK still has a serious slice (pink), Belgium has holdings (brown), as does Portugal (green). Spain has a little bit of the north-west, South Africa obviously has the southern end, Egypt spawned not too long ago, Liberia is a US puppet, and the US owns 3 provinces on the northern coast.

If I was going to get involved, I think I'd DoW on Portugal, hit their provinces on the east coast from my bases in the ME, then hit their holdings on the west coast, but I don't think I need to be involved on another continent, TBH. Africa does have some decent resources though, and as a bonus it's easy to rule.

Europe:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/europe53.jpg

No change really. I've fortified the border, and a lovely network of AA guns is also springing up.

Bit of a sub reorganisation going on. While my nuke subs slip silently and sneakily to Murmansk, Archangelsk and Leningrad (they're the only naval units with the range to reach them), my other subs are rebasing on the Asian continent, freeing up more island ports for my fleets.

Well, my recent research into beefing up my AA guns paid off:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/SAMs.jpg

Whoosh, boom, mother hubbards!

It's the kick off:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/turkwar.jpg

Subs and carrier fleet cruising the coast, fighters on air superiority, tacs interdicting, paras en route.

Paras hit the coast:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/parasltw.jpg

Backed up by a modest force shipped in. Which was good, because the Turk proved surprisingly resilient.

Their navy is shit though:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/navcombatturks.jpg

Took about five minutes to sink the lot. Shame their infantry isn't as obsolete.

I prepare to capture the only province that really matters:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/optrcb.jpg

Carved Turkey in half:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/carvdturkey.jpg

Didn't really do much, they kept putting the boot in, and I had to send in more paras to reinforce each province.

"Welcome to the party, pal!"

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/welcome2tpp.jpg

Best of luck fighting three countries at once!

Can I really turn my back on the new Jewish state? Can Israel even fight any one of its three enemies? Will circumcising my divisions fool the Syrians into thinking they're Jewish troops? Find out next update!

I prepare to capture the only province that really matters:

Whoa, never noticed that province before. Are some of these provinces fictitious? :)

Carved Turkey in half:

Hehe, nice play on words. Too bad you couldn't wait a couple more months so you would invade on Thanksgiving day. That would have put the icing on the cake. :)

Bruce Willis, right? ;)

The only country which may have a big enough army is Egypt, but it may be separated by too much water to be a real threat. Then again, Lebanon and Syria are direct neighbors and if they waged a combined attack, it might succeed. Not sure the AI is smart enough for that though. :)

I backed the Turks into Istanbul, where they proved to be immovable.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/crackistanbul.jpg

I had tacs bombing them, an ICBM take out their infrastructure, a carrier fleet bombarding them, and an assault from 18 inf divisions and 6 divs of paras. It failed.

Decided a performance like that deserved a reward:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/turkpup.jpg

Another state on my side, and access to the Black Sea. Ahhh.

Israel (or indeed anyone at this point in my astronomic Belligerence) won't accept an alliance with me, so I just declared war on Syria and sent in ze bombers:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/firesupport.jpg

They plastered every unit in Syria, with four wings on ground attack, causing casualties, and four on interdiction, sapping Organisation.

No doubt awoken by all the noise, Jordan spawned:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/jordan.jpg

And declared war on Israel after a couple of hours thought.

Predictably:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/jordangone.jpg

Lesson Numero Uno: Don't declare war without a military.

With my tacs flying round the clock, and with the Syrians having no air force or AA guns, they were easy meat:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/istakessyr.jpg

Slowed down a bit by the Lebanese immediately attacking as soon as the Israelis moved in, mind.

I nicked a province off Syria, they didn't need it, and was overjoyed to find it contained their stockpile.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/syrissupldump.jpg

Thanks Syria!

Glad to see my boffins not taking it easy:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/nukecruiser.jpg

I got in on the action, DoW on Lebanon:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/lebstart.jpg

And quickly stole another province from the Lebanese, that they stole from the Israelis, that they stole from Syria:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/byeleb.jpg

David and Goliath, except Goliath was Jewish and David was rubbish.

Time to take care of some unfinished business:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/gbyepersia.jpg

Encircled by Japanese and 'stan troops, the Persians soon crumpled and the paras dropped in, ending the war in a matter of hours:

SAM's here!

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/SAMs-1.jpg

FWOOOSH!

Proud Poles rejoice!

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/poland.jpg

Well, it's about time...

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/usawar-1.jpg

And it's not just the US either. The UK, Canada, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Iraq, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, Bhutan, Yemen, Oman, Greece, Spain, the Phillippines and of course that titan, Liberia.

Before anything else happens, the balloon goes up:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/washingtonnuked.jpg

Washington DC, London, Paris, Canberra, Ottawa, Los Angeles, New York, Birmingham (the British one, hate that accent), Liverpool, Chicago, Boston, Madrid. Ka-boomed. Still got a few nukes left too, if anyone gets troublesome.

Oh no!

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/nicaragwar.jpg

Not Nicaragua! Anyone but Nicaragua!

A lot of the stuff I developed for OPERATION SUCK A DUCK is still in place, thankfully. ICBMs with conventional warheads stonked US islands and airfields. My three battleship fleets put to sea, interdicting around Singapore, the Phillippines and the Chinese coast. My five carrier fleets sexed out of their ports, three in the Pacific, one in the Middle East, and one in the Med. One of them is slightly under-strength, but it should be okay as it has the full complement of screens. My nuke subs glided (glode?) out from Murmansk and Archangelsk into the Atlantic for some convoy raiding (except for one, which was in Leningrad, and can't get out into the Atlantic because the Yanks control Copenhagen and the seas around it). My conventional subs are all over the place, the west coast of the US, the Pacific, the Middle East, the Cape Agulhas (southernmost bit of Africa), the Med, et al, and are sinking convoys like no tomorrow.

Air forces don't have a lot to do. All my fighters are in Europe, providing cover against the US/UK air forces, which they're actually being successful at for a change. Strat and tac bombing against my forces on the East/West used-to-be-German border was shortlived, no doubt the SAMs made a contribtuion there. The Brits, the devious sods, jumped off from Hong Kong into mainland China, but I cut that short in hours (thank God for paras).

My army in Europe is currently static, and holding versus far superior forces, helped by the level 10 fortifications no doubt. I'm cleaning up the Allied territory elsewhere first (Iraq, Hong Kong, Pacific islands) before moving onto there. I need to take the Suez, as the British closed it on me, meaning I can't ship troops through there (strategic redeploying over land is still an option but it takes months as opposed to the weeks by ship).

I'm struggling to cope, actually. I can only play for about half an hour at a time before getting a headache, juggling army, navy and air force in 3-4 different theatres.

Oh, the humanity! How dare the infidels so brazenly slap the Rising Sun in its seraphic Imperial cheek?!

War declarations make for some very rousing headlines in the western press to be sure. The cause ? Pretty pictures of men in uniform boldly captioned "We shall stick it to them!"

And then, of course, the yellow atom hits their plump collective tush... which is no less photogenic (protogenic?), come to think of it. (the mushroom, okay, you degenerates)

Anyway, it's a riot of flashy colours mixed with plenty of sake dousing and not a bad oeuverture at all for the squinters' world concert premiere in the far west. The spirit soars, nipponic audiences everywhere clap intermittently, in the chance occasion they still manage to have their hands gleefully impact each other...

...and then, after a spill, it's time for a refill! ;)

The folks in Birmingham Alabama have some crazy accents as well. What, no nukes for them? ;)

Looks like the can of worms has been opened then. Good luck trying to sort that all out, but hopefully those nukes softened everyone up. :)

If you are getting headaches, may I suggest Tylenol... or alcohol? :)

In the tight confines of the Med, my subs have less luck than average:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/lostsubs.jpg

There's at least three major fleets currently swishing about in this sea, one French, one British and one American. My subs cleverly bumped into two of them. Slightly overconfident.

Even out in the Atlantic, my subs aren't safe:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/nukesubslost.jpg

The Canadians may not be able to summon dozens of aircraft carriers, but what they do have is lots of small ASW groups, which have the North Atlantic tied up tight. Even my nuke subs are taking a beating. I added another four production runs of nuke subs, given the startling casualty rate.

First instance of carrier versus carrier:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/carrierwar.jpg

Note the nav bombers weighing in. I'm actually quite pleased with that result, four carriers and two flotillas of destroyers for no losses (though three carriers and various screens were seriously damaged). That's exactly the sort of action I need to win in the naval sphere. Mind you, that's usually what happens when an 18-ship/flotilla fleet meets a 7-ship/flotilla fleet, nav bomber support or not.

Ooooh, nasty:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/carrwar2.jpg

My 18-strong Med fleet bumped a 30-strong Yank fleet, and this is the nasty result. Yes, I sank seven American carriers, and other ships besides, but I lost three of my carriers, and with the Suez blocked, I can't send replacements. More to the point, the Yanks can afford to lose seven carriers, I can't afford to lose three. A few more victories like that and I'll have to get out of the pool altogether.

The British, squashed out of Hong Kong, launch an assault on Asia:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/britinvasion.jpg

This was stopped and thrown back into the sea in short order, but still. Thank God for the Siamese. If that had been in strength, I would have been in trouble, as my transport fleets are either trapped in the Middle East, or busy shipping my troops out to assault American islands. I also made a MASSIVE cock-up of my first amphibious assault, sweeping the route once with a carrier fleet and then moving on, only for a sneaky Yankee fleet to send a pair of transports (and the inf divs on them, experienced veterans) to the bottom. By the time my carriers returned, the Yanks had fled the scene and my TPs had to skulk back to Japan to lick their wounds. This happened again with another fleet of TPs, and I lost another two, and the divs on them. I was absolutely furious with myself and genuinely considered reloading. True, it was only four TPs and four inf divs, but it was such a schoolboy error.

France take Potsdam from me:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/francetakespotsdam.jpg

Enjoy! I've instituted a bit of back-and-forth here, letting them take Potsdam, and then counter-attacking from Straslund, Berlin, and Cottbus. Never going so far as to take Potsdam back, though, meaning they keep pushing into it and I keep knocking them back.

Things are getting desperate in the ME:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/medesp.jpg

I dismissed the smaller Arab nations, which was a bit of a mistake. Their forces may be small and provincial, but they still exist, and they're causing me trouble. I've got Iraq locked down, thanks once again to my paras, and 'stan forces, but the Brits are coming out of Kuwait City, and the Yemenis and Omanis are prodding away at me too. If the Empty Quarter wasn't there, they'd have Saudi captured already. I only have one inf div at Medina, which, as high tech and hardcore as it is, won't be able to hold. I need Medina, as I've got a carrier fleet sailing out of there, blocking the Red Sea just as effectively as the Brits have blocked the Suez.

I need to get some inf divs in there, and it just so happens I have some spare, in Japan. But, the TPs I have spare are in Bandar Abbas, my Persian port. The chances of them making it from the ME to Japan are fairly small, I would say. I can't spare a fleet to escort them, either.

My battleship fleets, guarding the Chinese coast, are doing rather well. They may be old school and not up to taking on modern carriers, but they are tough, and more than up to putting a crimp on the Allies' naval shenanigans. They tend to deal out and take heavy damage, rock back to port, get repaired, and rock back out into the sea lanes, crew obviously sake-insulated against the horrors of war.

Speaking of drunks, my fighter pilots are doing terribly well, having put almost a complete stop to bombing in Europe. They've taken all comers, and done fearsome damage to the lot of them. French, British, Canadian, American, Australian, Phillipino, you name 'em, my boys have peered at them through an alcoholic haze and engaged them in combat regardless of the amount of vomit covering the cockpit.

I simply don't have enough nav bombers. I thought doubling the size of my nav bomber force a few years ago would do the trick, but it hasn't. The Pacific alone would require about a third as many again to get good coverage. Add in the Med, Black, Red, and Indian seas, and they're stretched thin. I also thought putting them on constant patrol of a hotspot would work, but it doesn't. The enemy use the fiendish trick of going around my forces, which means my nav bombers happily cruise the friendly skies while enemy ships slip by. I've started using them as a QRF, sending them out solely to support my fleets when they engage enemy ships in combat.

The Pacific is massive. I've underestimated it completely. I have nowhere near enough ships to patrol it, even if I used my battleship fleets and the obsolescent odds and ends hanging around. My carrier fleets are fast and hit hard, but they can only cover so much ground. Bracketing American islands with them works well, as Yank naval patrols and TPs sail right into my ships, but that means their forces are also free to sail the wide expanses left open (one small fleet got far too close to Japan before being bombed to pieces, no threat in itself, but it exposed just how vulnerable my islands are if my carriers aren't patrolling).

I can't lose the ME, it's the home to two nice big ports (and the only ports I am likely to have there without a major land offensive) and it's the only naval link between Asia and the Black/Med seas. More to the point, I have to hurry up and capture the Suez. Paras to the rescue again...?

Well, here is my lonely, isolated little fleet.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/3crsdwn.jpg

3 carriers down (the newer models, too, I might add, but not the newest), and no reinforcements on the way. Could get unpleasant. If, y'know, I didn't control the Bosporus. Har har. Non entree, Yanquis! So I have all the time in the world to fix those damaged ships. Unfortunately, that won't do me any good if the fleet never has the might to sail the Med again. Which it doesn't. Three more carriers must be drafted in to bring the fleet back to full strength. But in order to get them there, I must!

TAKE THE SUEZ!!!

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/suezcanal.jpg

This unassuming canal will birth my victory. Only practical way to get to it is by parachute. So once my paras have finished mopping up the entire Middle East...

The Americans show total and utter disregard for anything as girly as tactics, deploying a fleet entirely made up of carriers:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/30cps.jpg

30 aircraft carriers. 30. Bastards.

I sally out a wee bit and capture La Spezia, cutting Franco-Italy off.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/capturedlsp.jpg

Won't do much, but they'll have to go to the effort of running some convoys. Anything to be a pain. :D

A one-two battleship fleet combo knocks a superior American fleet down:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/1-2punchbs.jpg

All the first fleet has to do is keep the enemy busy, and when the second fleet arrives, it deals the real damage.

A sneaky American fleet catches my nuke subs fixing up in port:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/nukesubscaught.jpg

They knocked the port down a few levels, but didn't stick around to sink any boats.

Second try at Guam:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/2ndguamassault.jpg

The first was disastrous, because in my arrogance as Emperor of All Water, I sent in transports unescorted. Kissed two escorts and two good inf divs goodbye. Not this time. Carrier fleet waits patiently as the boys wade in.

After the garrison is knocked flat:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/hkcaptd.jpg

Ah, 99 year lease you say? No, I'll just take it.

A Greco-British force slaps Turkey one:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/grksatkturks.jpg

I'll rush some more paras there, shall I? You fought like demons against me, you bunch of wimps...

My inf get a bit carried away in Italy:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/numnumitaly.jpg

Delicious as it is, I can\'t let it become yet another front for the Allies to fight me on. Strictly harassing/diversionary stuff.

"We will pash through the American patrolsh, pasht their shonar netsh, and lay off one of their citiesh, and lishten to thish music they call 'grunge'."

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/lieoffthrcoastgrunge.jpg

Not just done for laughs, convoy raiding is paying off, I'm sinking plenty of American transports and paying only a light toll in subs now that I'm relocating them after every sucessful attack.

Second time lucky in the case of Guam:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/guamwon.jpg

Ashore with only light resistance encountered, and very little trouble from enemy ships...

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/guamretakenqm.jpg

Until a few hours later when a fleet of 51 ships, more than half of them carriers, turns up. Nice one. Thanks to heavy nav bomb cover, my fleet managed to get away with only a savaging. No ships lost, but the fleet will be out of action for weeks, with every ship damaged, most of them badly.

"Two American fleets off the coast of China, eh? Beating my battleship fleets hollow?"

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/2xyankflts.jpg

Whose idea was this war anyway?

My Pacific plans hit a minor snag:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/disaztr.jpg

That's a whole carrier fleet gone. At a conservative estimate, that will take two years to replace. I had three carrier fleets in the Pacific. Two are out of action, badly damaged. That was the third.

Armenians, Uzbeks, Georgians and Azerbaijanis move south, and my paras move north, crushing Iraq.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/azuzarmparairaq.jpg

At a meeting between British and Japanese generals to discuss a truce in Iraq.

Lt. Gen. Kawabe: You know, we are sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. And now that we've been face to face, if I'm there and I gotta put you away, I won't like it. But I tell you, if it's between you and some poor bastard whose division you're gonna turn into a graveyard, brother, you are going down.

Gen. Montgomery-Massingberd: There is a flip side to that coin. What if you do got me boxed in and I gotta put your army down? Cause no matter what, you will not get in my way. We've been face to face, yeah. But I will not hesitate. Not for a second.

Kawabe: Maybe that's the way it'll be...or, who knows?

Montgomery-Massingberd: Or maybe we'll never see each other again.

Nice bit of Brit fair play, sending an evenly matched fleet to fight me.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/britfairplay.jpg

Doesn't end well for them, as not only is my fleet superior, I use my nav bombers.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/bfpresult.jpg

Lose some destoyers in exchange for two battleships and change? Oh, go on then, cheeky.

LOL, gotta love some Sean Connery as Captain Marko Ramius from The Hunt for the Red October.

But remember...Ramius defected, with an entire Soviet sub...might want to increase your political officers on your subs just in case some of your mighty Japanese submariners decide that yes, they would like some fries with that and land in LA to get a paint job for their sub by some Mexican garage monkey.

Paras, my own personal fire brigade:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/turkparas.jpg

Just recently strategically redeployed, only at half org, they climbed aboard their birds, and several hundred miles later, jumped out into the midst of an enemy offensive and stopped it hours shy of cutting off Istanbul. Best IC I ever spent.

Azerbaijan is in a rush:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/azannexiraq.jpg

I didn't want Iraq anyway. Still, it's small, easily policed. Yeah, right. Anyway, it's Azerbaijan's lookout now.

Well this is a bit of a shocker.

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/coupusa.jpg

Thanks to multiple nukings, the US was suffering rather high dissent. I tried sponsoring a few revolts, which came to nothing, and then tried funding a coup.

It worked.

The US has pulled out of the war. Their president is now Fritz Kuhn. I can take it a bit easier now. The pressure is off in the Pacific. There has never really been any pressure on me in Europe, but now I can go on the offensive. I think it's the first time funding a coup has actually worked for me. I don't care if it's a bit of an anticlimax, I was looking down the wrong end of about 60 aircraft carriers there.

Shortly after the change of government, the US broke out in partisans:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/uspartisans.jpg

They were quickly quashed.

My paras, just shy of the range to drop onto Suez, hit Beirut:

https://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/FullAuto_2006/parasbeirut.jpg

That's one less port you've got, Francey boy.

A quick bash down Italy:

Next to no resistance, apart from a landing at the heel which was quickly pushed back into the water. Recapturing the Crater of Rome, great.

Well, I think I'll call that the end. Whatever happens after isn't like to be much of a challenge at all.

I think the moral of the story is, don't fight your enemies, subvert their government and then enlist them on your side. Is that even a moral? I suspect that would go down like a pork sandwich at a bar mitzvah to anyone concerned with morals. Still, that's what I'm taking away from this experience. Thanks for reading, ladies and gents. It's been fun.

Sheer genius I must say, FA. Sheer, unadulterated genius! All bow before the god-emperor!! :D

And he went happily on to embrace capitalism - with a successful chain of karaoke bars...

The End. ;)
