FullAuto
Well, which is the best one? Until I upgrade to a new PC, I'm stuck with All Graphics Poor, a titan once mighty, brung low by the advance of technology, etc etc, and would appreciate some advice. I realise opinion is going to come into it, but what with AGP being a dead-end now, I thought there might be one or two clear top contenders in the 512MB division? Knan
Looks like on the nVidia side, the 7800GS is top of the line for AGP, but difficult to track down in stores and two-and-a-half generations old. On the ATI side, AGP seems to live on for another generation. A Sapphire Radeon HD3850 ought to be far better that the rest of your computer and just one generation old or so. "As it stands right now, the Radeon 3850 appears to be the final AGP high-end part on the market. So, if you are looking to upgrade your ancient, but still kicking AGP system, your options just shrunk to GeCube
FullAuto
Thank you Knan, looks like the sort of thing I'm looking for. If you own an AGP rig, time is slowly running out. Alright, I get the message! Bloody Hell, will I be hit by a miniature asteroid or do the PCI-E brigade just send somebody round to shoot me? Knan
Heh. Just out of sheer perversity, I need to put a modern pci-e graphics card into my A4000 at some point. It looks possible, with a thick enough stack of adapters. Zorro III => PCI => PCI-E x1 => PCI-E x16. I know all three exist.

Matri
Oh what are you complaining about? I'm stuck with a DX9 card with no hope of upgrading. Cash flow issues
baby arm
Just ordered this Radeon HD 3650 512MB AGP card for $83 ($68 after the rebate). I'll be happy as long as I can play Bioshock, Fallout 3, and Stalker: Clear Sky without problems.
