Worst Game Cover Art?

It is the expression that elevates it beyond the norm. Surely that's one of the shots the photographer swore he wouldn't use.

Classic PlayStation title!

More innocent times when the mere ownership of shades made one "bad".

Argh, after viewing the last couple of pages in this thread (and I think following one of the links), I'm starting to get some of these games that are still in circulation showing up as Sponsored Links in my eBay screens. teh Horror!

Well, more the fact they're still in circulation than anything else.

I can't but help see the Star Wars Stormtrooper in that thingy in the lower left corner. In fact, that is the Stormtrooper with one of those inverted cone dog collar thingies.

Slightly off-topic as this is not cover art, but what is cover art after all if not a glorified game ad itself, so...

Do check out this and more in a nice little roundup. And make sure you're not sipping tea, or any other beverage, as spurting risk upon reading the accompanying remarks is quite serious. tongue.png

I'd be more than happy to throw the X-Com Apocalypse ad in with that crowd, with its subtle allusion to drug addiction. On a different note, I'm surprised the blogger didn't dig into the Tetrisphere double entendres a bit more. :D

Some covers aren't bad, some are and some really do well in explaining why there was a small demographic for female gamers at the time (Not that today's game industry is without it's hiccups) Or that is at times lack of creativity be it gritty guys with guns in a warzone or the staple anime character cast for a RPG etc.

I think the real sinners for gaming advertisement these days are not covers themselves but game trailers, the clips that show epic gaming "footage" only to have that small writing at bottom "not real gameplay" I consider that to be a very misleading practice.

With art cover, a lot do go their way in grabbing the person's attention to say this is exciting or worth your attention but I find this to be one of the worst of all time.

It looks to be done with barely any effort, it doesn't look exciting (black and white title that might well as been a barcode) or even care about its own identity. When covers don't make you consider buying the item you have to wonder if they put any effort into the game at all.

Of course good covers can also betray the impression that they have might have put effort into gampleay at all such as this.
