Azrael Strife
I found a rather interesting thing in Aftershock. When I destroyed the Wargot ship and after I rescued the stranded Reticulans, I suddenly saw myself in a wave of base assaults like I had never seen before. Not only I was attacked multiple times, but I found out that I was unable to cope with the simultaneous invasions and Cultist Conversions (thing that had only happened once before, and had to happen now).As a result, I lost my main base of Stuttgart. Now I cannot, literally, build anything, cannot build tracks, cannot build weapons (I had transformed all my bases into research), cannot do squat.I have more than enough resources to survive, and hopefully, equipment. Question is, I suspect there is no way to recapture a StarGhost province, but is there a way to restore my ability to build tracks? is there a way to make another base my "primary" base? If not, this is a poorly thought feature of the game, and makes little sense. (in addition, I suspect some sort of bug occurred, as some provinces which were not under attack were suddenly captured by StarGhosts too, unless they can work like Cultists)
Azrael Strife
Yeeeehaw! I beat Aftershock! After you rescue the Reticulans, you don't really need the other labs beyond the Laputa.I grew tired of fighting the Starghost invasions so I allowed them to capture my provinces unhindered as I researched the last topics; my main base was lost so I could not even build tracks, could not modify my bases' configuration, could not manufacture anything as I had turned everything into adv psionic labs. But I had such a huge stash of 5.56 AP ammo for my XM8s that I was all set. I never even used Psionics or Cyborgs, did you? my final team config was Medium / Heavy armors with shields, XM8s with AP ammo, and Warp Rifles for SG Clouds. Damn I'm glad I managed to put through it, those missions were ENDLESS, and so monotonous, now it's time for Afterlight!
NKF
It's a pity you didn't use the psionics and cyborgs. They're very useful. Not essential, but very useful. The cyborgs in particular, if you concentrate on mastering a weapon skill (up to +2 or +4), tend to become a little TOO powerful. I ended up only needing two or three to clear all the maps from the helmeted Wargots all the way to the end. One would've done, but I needed the space for the extra ammo and it was convenient to have someone with a sonic gun to wipe out the SG Clouds. Thanks to the level 2 torsos, they barely got scratched most of the time. Although this makes the game boring, I was glad it did because I was getting extremly sick of the numerous missions and particularly the long load times for the crashed Reticulan ship maps. Psionics on the other hand weren't very good munchkins compared to the humans or cyborgs, but their unique squad-effect bonuses was very handy during the early to mid part of the game. They were generally good snipers and medic material, otherwise not really in close combat. I hate to say it, but the projectors that the psionists specialised in were rather pathetic and unreliable most of the time. However they didn't need any ammo, which is a small plus if you're using more ammo than you can build. They're basically just extremes. The humans are much more balanced and have the best choice of custom options available to them, from gear to training. - NKF
Azrael Strife
I didn't bother because, frankly, I was also sick of the numerous missions, I just wanted to get it over with! The game bored me of the extremely repetitive missions even before the arrival of the Wargots, Starghosts made missions a bit more interesting and dangerous, but the maps were still the same (and I HATE the crashed reticulan ship maps). What weapons did you use for Humans?
NKF
I stuck with the XM8's for humans. No matter how well I trained them, they were literaly pants with everything else, except perhaps the human snipers, who generally got Brownings or USG's. The XM8's allowed for decent damage and accuracy over a safe distance no matter how good or bad my soldiers were. I actually tried to get the humans to excel with PK Machine guns. They were okay, but they could just never achieve the same level of long-range accuracy as the cyborgs. Heck, the Cyborgs could wipe out Wargots easily with double laser pistols - I wouldn't even dare try that with humans! - NKF
kite.san
i've had a lot of fun with playing oddball diplomacy games in order to jump my tech tree early on. i was able to sweet-talk (bribe with type 3 resources) the humans into selling me someone with level 3 sniper training within the first six missions or so, and she's continued lovely cranial volume surveys right on through, one-shots nearly everythign i point her at.
