Pumpkinhead
UFO's 10-year anniversary is 25 weeks away! Well that's based on the release date I found searching the net anyway, which was June 01, 1994... My installation disc says
Bomb Bloke
Alliance? Not likely... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/sad.gif However, Pete stuck a counter till the release date of Aftermath on UFOAftermath, so maybe he'll stick an annerversery counter up. usmarox
It may be sooner than you'd think.... My information is that UFO was released 04/1994. So that's even closer. 10 years, eh? Who'da thunk it?
Pumpkinhead
Any info yet on an "official" release date? We all know that the anniversary is this year, but it'd be nice to know the exact month... if not even the exact date
Pete
I'll have a gander around at my various sources. I know, I'll just ask someone from the original development team over ICQ, how's about that? We will be arranging something for the 10 year anniversary at any rate, evn if it is only something like an original boxed copy of UFO on floppy disk (yes, I do have one. Not shrink-wrapped, but in the original box... not 100% mint condition, but close enough!). Unfortunately, it's hard to think of nifty things to do when the original games are so difficult to get hold of. Oh well, I'll think of something! Neorapsta
This news may suck, just checked Gamespot, and the listed release date they have for X-Com : UFO Defence is 12/31/1993
usmarox
Well, that's a crock.
Neorapsta
lol, I think it is around there somewhere, as just checked the top games list on Gamespot as well and it say X-Com as 1994 release...
BladeFireLight
considering the floppy version 1.0's file dates are April 5th 1994 It would have had to have been after that. -Blade FireLight
Bomb Bloke
Stuff the dates, we can have the anniversary whenever we want! https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/grin.gif
Pete
The date according to PCGamer magazine is... *drum roll* a MARCH release. With so many different copies flying out to different countries, we're getting a lot of different file dates, and that was an article in the April edition of PCGamer so... We'll start up our competition in March and announce winners (seriously now) on April the 1st. That way we cover both months and can celebrate throughout. I don't know how my computer manages to run this game still... I mean, a 386 with 2mb RAM is a tall order! (What's taller is an original release price of £44.99... ouch!). Bomb Bloke
Different release dates for different places... Take UFO Aftermath for example... it probably isn't due here for another three years... :hmmm:
Pete
Hehe, that's okay BB, you can still win a copy of a game you already own to celebrate the 10 year anniversary in March/April If I was allowed to make t-shirts and baseball caps, I would have done - honest! Bomb Bloke
Hmm, I'd quite like a copy with a manual... https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/love.gif Stupid PDF files. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/hmm.gif Ten meg, this one is. https://www.angelfire.com/games3/jeffy90/images/smilies/eh.gif
Pumpkinhead
Any more news on an exact release date? I'm guessing the PCGamer one is probably the most accurate... I just checked my install disc itself, and all the files are dated 14th November, 1994
Doug
Hi My Amiga box, manual and floppies all have 1994 printed on them, but not a month. B)
usmarox
Course, this is all kinda academic now, since we've missed it in any case, but the review I have - which apparently was a UK exclusive, so I'm assuming it was the first - was from PC Gamer April 1994. Since the UK got first release as well, I reckon said aniversary was last month. Still doesn't give us an *exact* date, mind. Pete, anyone - wanna give the Gollops a call and get the official line? cyrus
A call. Why call them, if you can go to LSN forums and ask Gollops about it. Though it would be a bit off-topic there, I think
