adamgiles
Would someone be so kind as to give me the codes and page numbers form the instruction manual for the first game so I can play again. Its' been since '96-'97 since my last adventure and I'm going to be starting up again real soon. And, needless to say, I can't find my book. So if someone could help me, I know its asking a lot but, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

NKF
You could also get the 1.4 patch, which officially removes copy protection from the game. Though it does improve the game a bit, they've replaced some sound samples, which, in effect, has 'matured' the sectoids. They seem to have inherited the floater's death-scream. Because of the higher sampling rate, the game will also sound less scratchy on newer sound cards. So it's both a blessing and a curse. Or, get XComutil. It fixes a major bug the 1.4 patch claims to fix but doesn't (i.e. the difficulty bug), in addition to removing the copy protection. - NKF
adamgiles
Thank you breakmage. NKF, is there an offical title to that 1.4 patch? I went to the downloads page and didn't see it on first glance. Thank you too. I'm assuming you download it and run the .exe and it will find X-Com itself and integrate together. What does NKF stand for?
NKF
That's odd, I thought it the 1.4 update patch was in the downloads section. Oh well. Tried XCommand's ufo file section, but the file server doesn't seem to be hosting the patch anymore. Or at least the zip file I got was empty. Even the link to the patch on the Xcomutil page isn't working. Hmm. Odd. You'd have thought the patch would be standard issue for most X-Com community websites... ah well. Anyone recall the address for Microprose's old ftp site? That's where I got my copy of the patch way back in... well, a long time back. It might still be up. For now, I think you'd best settle for xcomutil. https://XcomUtil.ScottTJones.com/ As for NKF - it can mean anything. From the silly to the ludicrous. From the innocent to the lewd. You can make up whatever you want. Of course, they're just my initials, but where's the fun in that? - NKF

NKF
You know, you could make an interesting off-topic word game out of that. Just pick a person of the month, who either supplies their initials (they don't have to be real - or you can just make them up) and let everyone have fun coming up with words. - Nine Knights Fighting
