Solarius Scorch
Hello everyone,This is my first post here and I'd like to greet all the X-Com lovers. I could explain in details how I love the UFO series since 1995 as my personal most important game series ever, blah blah blah, but You all probably know the story from Your own experience, so I'll skip that. What made me write this post are my futile attempts to edit game text files by adding new pilot names, callsigns, mining corporations, etc. The files are edited all right, but the game keeps on using the file copies which are on the CD, not the HDD. What can I do to change that? I've been looking for some kind of a filepath in the config files, but to no avail. Please help... Edited to say that now I see ths should be in the modding section. If the Administrator feels like moving this topic there, I would be greateful. Edited May 19, 2006 by Solarius Scorch
Zombie
Try starting a new game and checking the info again. Some info is not revised unless you start a new game. - Zombie
Bomb Bloke
Are you sure the game is reading off the CD? The first time I got the cD version of the game, I installed it to the harddrive, zipped it up, and have never touched the CD again.
NKF
What are you using to run the game? A batch file? I know the original batch file was set up so that you could pass a parameter through to it to specify where the game should look for your game files. The cd version does just this by keeping the important files locally and just passes the cd volume on to the executables to let it search for the other data files elsewhere. - NKF
Solarius Scorch
Thanks for help. I'll try starting a new campaign, and if it doesn't work... Well, we'll see about those batch files.Anyway, it will be in one or two months, as I don't have the computer with me in Ireland.
Bomb Bloke
If we're talking about the Dos version of the game, there should be a "cdsetup.bat" file in the game folder. When you run it, it asks you to pass it the letter of your CD drive, for eg, "cdsetup d:". Try passing it the path of your game folder instead. Eg, "cdsetup c:\games\UFOCD"
j'ordos
Are you talking about xcom1? Minig corporations and pilot callsigns sounds more like xcom4 interceptor to me...
