gillbo
Hello everyone, Noob here and I have a question. I have checked the other posts re: this topic and didn't find anything. Hence this thread. O.K. played AM with mixed feelings, managed to get my name in amongst the troops by modding the names, and this made it a little more fun. After hearing of AS, i immediately dropped AM and bought AS. Wicked, 100 times better than AM. But i was just in the middle of modding the troops to some of my own names, using the SN shocktroopers name change program and i am a bit confused as to how it ties in with the described name changing method in the modding guides. Can these two programs be used in conjunction with each other? Are they individual?Or do you have to juggle the 2 together to make it work. All i want to do is put my name in amongst the troops. (and yes, i have read the other threads but couldn't find any relevant info)Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Cheers everyone
gillbo
No Takers? Fine, i will explain what i have got so far.....Followed all the details in the Modding guide by ShadoWarrior, i have got the localization unpacked and renamed a couple of troops to my liking. Put the appropriate folder, mod\Localization\system\Pack.txt in the AS directory and done the vfstool mk mod.vfs 4096 7000 64 1, and vfstool in mod.vfs mod, which worked. I now have a 309kb mod.vfs file in the AS directory, ran the program, finished the first mission and tried to hire my new troops but they didn't come up. The old names that i supposedly replaced still come up.Frustrating. Any help PLEASE...
Slaughter
I don't know much about modding AM/AS I fear. Try asking at the official forums as well, as the modding community are stronger there.
gillbo
Thanks for the reply Slaughter, I have already checked the official site, and the Invision site, and the ufomods.com site but i got the same info. I have tried this no less than 22 times, restarting games, finishing the 1st mission and still finding out that it doesn't work. What am i doing wrong people? gillbo
Oh well, i have continully tried to no avail. I am sorry but i don't understand what i am doing wrong. I must have missed something, what does the HyperTerminal File do?Do i need that in there as well? I am really trying for an answer here. If i am wasting my time trying to get a solution here can some one let me know so i can just start playing the damn game?
Slaughter
Well, if you're not getting a reply here or at the official forums, I guess it's sort of hopeless. You could try to PM one of the modders at the official boards directly I suppose, but if they knew the answer they would probably have replied. endersblade
I posted this on the troopnames.txt post, but you're running into the same problem, so: Sorry for resurrecting old threads, but I've searched this AND the official forum, and I CANNOT figure out how to change the names. What I HAVE found, though, is there are multiple files that have the names in them (Following files are for AS): Troopnames.txtInitial_squad.txt (initial four you start with after the tutorial)Pack.txt (Edited with SNShockTrooper)And I've heard rumors of a listofpeople.txt file, but I've never personally seen it. I'm thinking this is AM's version of troopnames.txt, but I could be wrong. Now, I've edited the first three of those files, changing the names of the initial 4 people you start out with after the tutorial. I get a similar problem: Instead of those four originals, I get four DIFFERENT people entirely. Change everyone's names to John/Jane doe, all hell breaks loose >.> So we're either missing a file completely, or not changing something in the ones we do currently know of. Now, from what I gather, it IS possible to edit names. Otherwise there wouldn't be an editor for it. But nobody on either of these forums will explain how! It seems to be the best-kept secret of UFO AM/AS...
