Psy Guy
Im a gernade addic As such i need to complete my missions with lots of nade booms.Lately ive been playing x-com on my PC instead of the Amiga (challenge of night and zombies but sacrificing sound quality and stability). Why does my guys go BOOM when they carry proxy bombs and when left over proxy bombs are left sitting on the skyranger cause i didn't give it to someone?I find the proxy a useful and effective killing machine, door guard, and unit detector, but when my unprimed proxies keep killing my troops as they carry them... I feel betrayed by my lil throwable HE friends. Why do they go boom and is there a fix for this? -PSY GUY- (Nade Guy just don't sound as good)
Fox
It has something to do with undetonated proxies from the last mission. I've had the problem before too, but I rarely use proxies so I don't usually have it too much. I'm sure NKF or someone can give you a better solution... NKF
Aye, I'm also one of the board's resident grenade nuts. Played most of a campaign with nothing but grenades and one laser pistol for those occasions where those pesky floaters weren't floating near a conveniently placed surface. Never completed it all the way to Cydonia, but it taught me a whole new way of playing the game. And it humbled me into retreating a few times too... but that was a good thing. I highly recommend any X-Com nut to try playing the game like this sometime, if not to the end, at least give it a go. As for the problem: Are you using the collectors edition by any chance? If you aren't, then you can ignore the rest of my post. If you have any unspent proximity mines that you armed on the last mission, the game forgets to clear the 'armed proximity mine' flag that tells it that the item is an armed proximity mine. So in the next mission, any item that occupies the item table slot that the mine was put in the last mission will practically be turned into an armed proxy mine. Trust me, you really don't want a blaster bomb to occupy this slot! So how do you get around this when you know you've got an unspent proxy mine? 1. Save in the Geoscape, quit (to the OS), restart, reload. This should clear the armed proxy mine bug with no trouble, but it is tedious. 2. Save just before the next mission starts (in the Geoscape). Launch any mission. Drop everything. Walk over everything. If nothing explodes, well, reload. If anything explodes, abort and reload. Again, this is rather tedious. 3. (workaround) Pick everything up and don't leave any leftover items on the floor, then DO NOT drop anything or walk over anything within a 1 tile radius. See workaround #4. 4. If you hear a mysterious 'pop' during the alien's turn, then the proximity item has exploded, so you should be okay. Bladefirelight, are you around? Could a simple utility that clears the armed proxy mine flag for the item table of new missions be made for the CE? It would need XComutil to split the .exe, but would it be feasable? - NKF

The Demi-Godly One
Does this exist in all versions of UFO? 'Cause I have never seen it happen.
Fox
As far as I know, it only applies to the Collectors Edition.
