Accounting Troll
Link I can't say I'm too surprised. I suspect this delay will depress the Christmas sales of new PCs and laptops. After all, most people won't want the hassle of buying a new computer and upgrading the operating system a couple of months later.
Krabjuice
Can't say i'm surprised either. Rather, I could hardly care. I won't be running on it.
Mikal
Link I can't say I'm too surprised. I suspect this delay will depress the Christmas sales of new PCs and laptops. After all, most people won't want the hassle of buying a new computer and upgrading the operating system a couple of months later. I don't think it will affect that many sales. I suspect the average buyer won't know at the time and the vendors will keep quiet to avoid the very problem you've mooted.
Crazy Gringo
So Microsoft finally succumbed to the number of versions that they were going to release....And the number in question is 8. 8 is the number that brought Microsoft to a halt. They were due to release Vista in early 3Q 2006. Around the time that Intel is releasing their new CPU series for stationary PC's. In 5-6 months that the delay is they could completely rewrite the code for that monster OS. I guess that their Q&A is not the sharpest pen in the drawer.... Gimli
I know one thing. I'm not getting it before 1st or 2nd service pack, so they can clear out any major bugs/holes, etc.
Matri
Are you kidding? The last two Service Pack 1s they released caused even more problems!
Kernel
What annoys me more is the fact that MS are releasing Halo 2 for PC exclusivly for Vista! You want Halo 2? Sorry you gotta buy a £100 operating system to go with it. MS are going to come under a lot of fire from the gamers about this.... just you wait and see. Bomb Bloke
Meh, the game plays well enough on the X-Box, and you can pick those up cheap second hand. Not that the game is anything special mind you; I think the main ill effect will be that no one will notice, let alone buy it. I've got no plans to upgrade to Vista. Of course, I also had no plans to upgrade to XP, or even 95, for that matter. But if Microsoft keeps up with it's record for backwards compatibility, a new OS would mean I'd need another computer. No, I think technology has already reached the point of being good enough for me.
Matri
Meh. I'm actually at that rare point where my system (with the exception of RAM) is actually good enough. The dillema is that I won't and can't upgrade my OS if Vista comes out, and if I shell out for a new system with Vista pre-installed, I'll be paying for a duplicate system with extra RAM. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, but I've got no more room in this house
Gimli
Are you kidding? The last two Service Pack 1s they released caused even more problems! That's why I said 1st or second. If the first one isn't good, hopefully the second will be. Of course, if the second isn't, I'd be waiting for the third, and so on.
Accounting Troll
I haven't forgotten how much time I spent battling to get old games working on XP. I can't wait to go through all that again when Vista comes out Maybe waiting a few months before upgrading isn't such a bad idea...
Kernel
I haven't forgotten how much time I spent battling to get old games working on XP. I can't wait to go through all that again when Vista comes out Yes, and let's not forget about all those StarForce protected games like UFO:AS that won't work on Vista without a patch from the developer to upgrade it to the latest StarForce version. And don't even try them on the 64bit version of Vista if you have a 64bit CPU.
Kret
*shrugs* You just made the thought of going to the starforce page and willingly downloading SF updates so the drivers would work on the new OS. That would really make me feel unclean.
Matri
No, unclean is when you have to be nice to them and ask them to pretty please release the updates.
smithter
Hi I'm new and most people here wouldn't know me but anyways {I know Bomb Bloke}...What are the specs for Windows Vista anyways?
Accounting Troll
Welcome to Strategycore. Microsoft haven't yet released the final tech specifications, possibly because they aren't quite sure themselves yet. However, they have given some rather limited preliminary guidelines for people who plan on buying hardware now and then upgrading the OS to Vista. Link.
