Space Voyager
I've had two cases of "deadly Flatster attack". I don't know if this has been reported before, but I didn't find any bug repository. In both cases one of my men started loosing health VERY quickly in huge portions - like 1/4 of the healthbar (cca. 250hp). First he looses consciousness (red health bar) and than he dies (the red bar drops in the same fashion). I've tried healing him/her but to no avail. How do I know it's a Flatster? Becouse a Flatster is revealed like three-four times beyond his actuall range or the range of my sight and no other mutant is yet visible or near. He just stands there, no attack is visible but my man dies. After he dies, the Flatster starts shooting his ray, not hitting anybody (since he is much too far). After that the mission goes on as usual. Either a Flatster has a special ultra-deadly attack or this is nasty bug. It's impossible to even run to the Flatster and kill him before he kills my man since he is so far away.
What is this
I don't think that's a bug, flatsters do indeed have a powerful melee attack beside that useless ray. I don't know for sure why they avoid using it sometimes, but on "veteran" diffuculty they always attacked me this way. Best thing to do is to climb up some ladder and shoot the sneaky bastard from there.

I know they are pretty nasty (and tough) when they are close to the soldiers, but this was just some weird thing going on. At first I couldn't believe it was the Flatster, so the others ran around to see who was doing this. There was nobody nearby and the flatster was being seen so far away that none of my soldiers would be able to spot him in any case. So it was defintiely flatster's attack, but in some way buggy. He simply drained the life out of the soldier in a very short time from far away.
Accounting Troll
Flasters are capable of attacking a soldier with an electrical discharge from a distance in addition to their ability to launch a melee attack. They are EXTREMELY dangerous early on in the game because of the weak weapons you have to use. I have found that flatsters can climb stairs, but I've never seen them climing ladders. As with other enemies, a flatster is knocked to the ground for a few seconds if you manage a critical hit, although the animation makes this hard to spot. Go over to burst mode if the flatster is close enough for you to have a reasonable chance of hitting it.

The lasers you begin the game with are the MOST effective weapons you can use against flatsters as they are weakest against the laser damage type. Space Voyager
Ehm, did I say there was no attack visible and that the freaking flatster was FAR away, further than three times it's range and further than any of my soldiers should be able to see? After killing my soldier it fired wildly (visibly), never hitting anything becouse - naturally - the chances were 0%. What did it do to the soldier it killed is unknown and is (I'm positive) a bug. If I encounter this again I'll try to take some screenshots...
ShadoWarrior
Patch 1.1 changed the flatster, and in the process bugged it. My Weapon Rebalance mod reverses the change (thus fixing the bug).

I like to play games unmodded, but if somebody fixes bugs I don't mind.
