Gungadin
I know there's a specific word used for people who "enjoy" emotional anguish, who feel alive through it. Does anyone know it?
NKF
How about Masochism? The Concise Oxford dictionary (10th (revised) edition 2001) says that it is "The tendency to derive pleasure, especially sexual gratification, from one's own pain or humiliation." There's also Sadism, which is roughly the same except that the joy is derived from inflicting the pain or humiliation on others. - NKF

Gungadin
No, it's not masochism. From what I remember from my high school psych. textbook, there are three kinds of people. As far as I can remember, they are: One who finds joy/meaning through physical pleasure, one who finds joy/meaning through discovery/introspection and one who finds joy/meaning through personal anguish. I'm sure you've met that kind of person, people who take their Zen zeriously. This is all just quoting from memory a few years back, so I don't know....
