Mikal
Well after taking my time pottering around the geosphere liberating humankind from mutants, cultists and wargots I decided to take the plunge and tackle the Cultist Temple Mission to get the device with the codes. I've tried twice so far and nearly had my squads heads handed to me on a platter. The survivor(s) managed to get to where the device was marked only to find it unavailable after fighting off 30 or so cultists. So what is the way through this? I can't seem to find a solution. I've even gone everywhere (taking nearly two hours real time) making sure everything is dead just in case but no joy. I've tried searching the main site and found nothing of use. <sob> Hellup! Preda
I't's hard for me to imagine that the devive isn't there... Do you know how it looks. It is similar to wargot weapons (ie, golden, wood plated, stylish). It should be indicated by a huge arrow so it's kinda hard to miss it.

You're quite right it is very easy to spot and the location is marked from the start of the mission but during the fighting the marker disappears and the device is lying there and not able to be picked up. Very frustrating.
Mikal
I think I've found a new bug.... Background. I take my time playing this game. Completing as much research and squad training as possible before hitting the temple. I noticed the cultist region with the temple turned grey and was noted as occupied only by mutants prior to my attack although the place was teeming with cultists. On completion a squad member picked up the device but there was nowhere to go with it. This happened on three tries. On the fourth the golf ball had the green exit floor and was highlighted in the alternate map overview for once. So I went back to a much earlier save and tried this with the region still marked in red and occupied by the cultists. The device stayed highlighted for much longer and the exit area was immediately available on the alternate map unlike in previous attempts. Is this a bug or have I been remiss in my observation? infael
I had this experience as well. Just because you went to the Cult Temple doesn't mean that's the code retrieval mission. Check your mission objective. The first time I went, after getting the "find the codes" mission, the objective in the mission said to "eliminate sufficient enemies". I thought it was a pre-patch mis-wording. I won the mission and came back later. The M.O. said to find the codes. Keep going back to the temple until the codes are there. As for getting killed, snipers are very important as is 3 round, burst mode fire. You can often get really close to cultists and cultist cyborgs. Shotguns are great at very close range. Snipers kill psionics quickly. Don't waste time with grenades as they take forever. If you have LAWs or RPGs, use em! Stay close together, but not bunched together. Try to have a few guys shoot the same target together. Above all, when something doesn't work, try a different strategy.
Darkfyre
Take along a machinegun or two, those on burst/snap shot, while they eat ammo quickly, they eat enemies pretty quickly as well. I tend to use cyborgs as machinegunners, but anyone with at least the first level of Gunman training can use them, so if your team has that, you could theoretically field up to seven machine guns, which are pretty long range, if not as long as a sniper rifle. infael
Oh yes, I'm a major fan of those heavy machineguns! There's always a lot of close combat with cultists.
