Greetings fellows,

 

I finally completed AF a min ago, and feel after describing what i have expirienced in the last week.

 

After a few hours of gameplay i feeled pretty comfortable, nothing changed since AM in the basics, the graphic level seemed abit better although still not worthy of a game released in 2005, also the maps seemed very small, though very detailed and fun to play. The different abilities of charactertraining seemed fine, and also the new races made a good fit into the game, even though their abilities are rather limited and not very special at all. The cultists soonly appeared and i had my first fight against them, i did not even had medium armor or even the ability to build standard assault rifles, so i had a hard time fighting them off. I wondered why i cannot research the very basic items while im already using the equiptment i found in the missions, also the variation of mission tasks seemed very limited, there must be some more creative ideas in a game developers mind...

 

Hovever despite that little starting troubles i soon managed to conquer 2/3 of the world, as the next problem appeared, what the hell are tracks and why do they consume all my resources ?! It is very weird that a few tracks use much more resources than the whole research and manufacturing compounds of a worldwide base network huh ? I had only 3 or 4 alien resources but managed to stablalize it with building more colleges in the specific region bases. Why is there no technology or special building to increase the output ? Why are there no specific resource plunder missions in the uncontrollable territorys for example, they are not good for anything exept their very existence. So i played mission after mission, and tryd to peacefully take territorys, however it happened quite often that i made 3 or 4 missions in a territory and they still did not join the Earth federation ? Ok instead i simply occupied them and had sometimes a hard time against them, they always had better weapons and equiptment, on the other hand you can get better stuff much faster than your stupid scientists figure out how to build the very basic weaponry...

 

As soon there after the countdown for the wargot ship started and i thought omg i cant even built rifles and they are coming for me... Well as they finally came i already had a decent ammount of technology to kick their muppet show asses, i was very very very .... dissapointed with the wargots, despite the fact that the game started crashing commonly from there on,they look like straight from the muppet show, i even thought that kermet the frog is their boss, and miss piggy their queen or something. Despite they look very paethic they are so weak, my machinegun cyborgs killed them in seconds without getting hit once. After i raided their ship which was a real pain, like 8 missions of killing 6-9 of those puppets and of course destroying the pillar of light i thought yay game over, heh well instead i met the next kind of freaks called starghosts....

 

So who are you again, a spider a flying ninja star, a flying surfboard ?, and so on oh well...

After one or two missions with those thingys the grand admiral of the asgard fleet hailed me and as those smart guys wrecked their ship i saved them from the cultist madness. Okay so far so good now where was i again oh should there not be a kind of research or something ? hm... after i checked the forums i recognized that my techtree seemed completly messed up which is as it seems very common to this "game", i manually edited the savegame to get the next research step "a new enemy" and thought cool i can at least continue,

as i got attacked by starghosts again i send in my elite squad of lvl 20s and was prepared for a dozen or more boring missions, but no the game has choosen to crash instead. Okay i finally had enough of this, i hacked the savegame again and gave me a full techtree, and started to research ignoring all attacks, after about 20 mins of clicking continue and loosing about 30 territorys to the starghosts i finally had the oportunity to visit the moon with star alliance and spend a pleasend night in the 10 star hilton hotel with paris and her sister,... oh what ups another daydream *sigh* of course the mission was to blew up the bad bad alien who has chosen the earth as her lovenest...

 

FInally after the game is over i must say im very dissapointed with this,

 

THe game is very unstable, full of bugs and im missing alot of content,

where are the other mutant types, in AM we had 12? or something here there

are like 5, the maximum ammount of enemys i ever encountered where 15

in the cultist main temple mission, but what for do we need more enemys we get exp for doing nothing at all so why shall we kill them ? The whole game needs a major rebalance, the npcs need higher level characters and better suits, its paethic to fight guys running around nakid with knifes or throwing grenades or my favorite switching weapons over and over until i finally ended their paethic existence. The maps are too small and i dont really noticed that map generator thing, its true there are at least 30 map types but comon even UFO the enemy unkown had random maps and that was 1994? The sound is very bad, where is the blood the screams the terror and where the hell are the psi abilities, wheres mind control etc...

 

Im certain i missed alot of details but i think i have made my view pretty clear, im looking forward to mod this game as i modded AM, because i think it has much potential however in its current state its not worthy to bare the name UFO.
