I am pretty sure that I am the sole owner of these images as I have taken them as screen shots during playing UFO Aftershock. I can't see where the copyright infringement lies in taking screen shots during playing games and posting them on a imagehosting service like Webshots. Maybe in the intellectual property of CENEGA and/or ALTAR Interactive. Oh well....
Kret
Erm... how about contacting the Webshots Support Staff? At least they should explain the actual reason for the removal. Maybe they don't like having game related pictures uploaded.I do think you're the owner of the actual pictures since you "made" them via the CTRL+ALT+P screenshot function. Crazy Gringo
I will contact the staff when I get home some time tonight and explain the situation....I posted it to get some reactions from my fellow forum members and just in case somebody knew something about it.They deleted my pictures last night and sent this mail at noon today....But I uploaded alle the images again last night. So the damage is as good as nil for the time being. Would I also have gotten this mail if I had posted them on my own website if I had one? Kernel
This is why I never use any webhosting company that's based in the US.They've got some really ****** up copyright laws over there. It's a shame they're trying to push them on the rest of the world.
Azrael Strife
Has anyone seen the legal threats against the Pirate Bay? it's so damn funny, US companies trying to enforce their Copyright laws on them but failing miserably
Slaughter
I would demand an explanation from them. This sounds like bull.
Crazy Gringo
Okay I'm home now and have send the following mail to webshots support:I do believe that this incident is a mistake from my point of view. The pictures in question are actual screen shots from in-game action in the game UFO Aftershock using an in-game command called Crtl+Alt+P to generate these screen shots during many hours of gameplay. I have included a picture show the screen shot folder in which the screen shots are deposited when generated. I'm also interested in KNOWING how I have violated the U.S. copyright law. Was it when I began to upload the pictures? Is it something in one of the pictures titles? Is the pictures themselves? Or something entirely different? Please do explain yourselves instead of throwing a standard form letter at me. I do consider these pictures to be one of a kind as there are only the copies uploaded to your website and the originals on my harddrive as seen in the attached picture. If there is any of these pictures roaming around on some other website besides yours then it should be in violation of the U.S. copyright law if you like and then you have acted rightfully in deleting them. Now let's see how they react.... I'm outta here to slay what remains Earths former civilization!
Pete
So... they set up a facility that thethought must have crossed their mind "Hey, isn't this going to get used mostly for gaming screenshots?" Strange people.

Strong Bob
This is why I never use any webhosting company that's based in the US.They've got some really ****** up copyright laws over there. It's a shame they're trying to push them on the rest of the world. The United States follows the same international copyright laws as most of the world. (A little difficult to "force" that on anyone. Since they usually follow it anyway.) It's just Americans have no idea what they are... We're just sue-happy enough that sometimes the real laws become a tad blurred. That's why companies will make idle threats on people in regards to copyrights. People are not smart enough to counter them.

Kernel
I thought the US revised it's copyright laws with the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act), which has been rejected by several countrys and the EU is still pondering over. A good case for that is the PirateBay website which is based in Sweden. That site wouldn't be able to operate in the US due to copyright restrictions brought in by the DMCA but as Sweden doesn't follow the DMCA they are free to operate. Bomb Bloke
As far as I understand it, America isn't so much noted for it's copyright laws as it is its tendancy to copyright everything. I heard a rumor some company was going to copyright GIF. Not sure how that turned out. I know they copyrighted Ug Boots (and australian icon), so despite the fact that various companies have been selling them here for decades, it's not allowed any more. People shouldn't be allowed to copyright certain things, especially things they had no part in creating.
Pete
Oh, Gif was copyrighted for a long while, yes. The versions of PHP which packaged with nifty features such as creating Gif's from strings of text and neat fonts and creating graphs etc (so long as you wrote the PHP to do it) had to have the Gif elements taken out for about a year or something. It was, in short, pathetic. They're back in now though so I can show you all some neat uses of the Gif and Jpeg create functions on an upcoming site in *crosses fingers* a few weeks. We have been through this one time before and you didn't even give me a response the last time....(UFO Aftershock Album) The pictures in question are screenshots of actual gameplay and are in NO way stolen/copied or what ever. If taking screenshots when playing a game is a copyright infringement then the US copyright board/goverment should. Since you require documentation then I will ask you. What kind of documentation is required? Yours truely, Peter Nygaard Two times is enough....I'm gonna go look for a non-US imagewebhosting service....Any suggestions.... Now to go find a nice country with no copyright law and a welldeveloped information technology structure....Iceland maybe....I don't know about their laws but they have the largest usage of information technology per citizen in the world (Or so the CIA says). Some Indian Ocean island state far away from the USians....Like the Seychelles....Warm and sunny all year round. Bomb Bloke
If taking screenshots when playing a game is a copyright infringement then the US copyright board/goverment should. They should... what? The documentation they asked you for is the docs that dictate that you are the sole copyright owner of the images. Read through the licence agreement for the game in concern and see what it has to say on the matter.
