deimios
/share/configs/units/troopname.txt - the file that contains the names for your soldiers. Or it should be. If I mod this file weird things happen. Like for instance 1286:NAME for name and 1286:SIGN for nick on a soldier. If I remain in the 200 record limit I get cyborg names for my female soldiers etc. (BTW these names are NOT taken from the modded file). Is there another file I should be looking for? Are the names hardcoded? Should I even try? I have 2940 names (generated from XCOM mostly) and would like to use them in aftershock. Can anyone help me? uly
Um, you're not making too much sense. What exactly have you modded and what exactly is the problem? In any case, you need to mod the localization file as well, check localizationpack.vfs.
Kret
Deimios, could you tell us what changes did you made to the file in question?
deimios
Deimios, could you tell us what changes did you made to the file in question?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes. All I did was basically generate 2940 names from the original XCOM.I put those names in the format found in troopname.txt (the original one had 200 records).I binary checked the file so the format is identical to the original. After putting it in it's right place and firing up the game I encountered the weird stuff described in the first post.As I have seen the game takes the names from somewhere else. Basically if the random number for the soldier name is under 200 he has a name and sign (usually totally off like cyborg names for women) and if the number is above 200 it displays number::name and number::sign. I concluded that the game takes the max value for the random number from the troopname.txt along with the gender (race id) but takes the names/signs from some other file. Which being limited to the original 200 records causes the problems. I will check the localization this afternoon.(thx for the tip uly)--EDIT--link I checked the localisation but it seems that I cannot mod that. I altered the file and put it into it's place but the game doesn't use it it seems. I'd be grateful if anyone would check what I'm doing wrong. endersblade
Gyah, FINALLY got this stupid site to register my account! Sorry for resurrecting old threads, but I've searched this AND the official forum, and I CANNOT figure out how to change the names. What I HAVE found, though, is there are multiple files that have the names in them (Following files are for AS): Troopnames.txtInitial_squad.txtPack.txt (Edit with SNShockTrooper)And I've heard rumors of a listofpeople.txt file, but I've never personally seen it. Now, I've edited the first three of those files, changing the names of the initial 4 people you start out with after the tutorial. I get a similar problem: Instead of those four originals, I get four DIFFERENT people entirely. Change everyone's names to John/Jane doe, all hell breaks loose >.> Not sure how to get all of your 2940 names to work, I'd just like to change the 4; however, anything regarding name changes would benefit a LOT of people, methinks :-) Now, from what I gather, it IS possible to edit names. Otherwise there wouldn't be an editor for it. But nobody on either of these forums will explain how! It seems to be the best-kept secret of UFO AM/AS...
