Terawatt_99
how would i go about converting a bitmap to the appropriate pallete? i used photoshop to overlay some cammouflage onto the sodier's image, but now it's the wrong pallette, and it crashes the game when i try to enter combat... BladeFireLight
Its not the pallet it's the size...the background color has to be a spacific index in the pallet. if it is not the file does not compress and the game crashes. you have to start with the images exported from XCView. i'm afraid you may have to start over. as a ingame screenshot cant be used. How the files work are that background color is transperent. and gets compressed. the inventory files should be around 4k if it comes out around 60k you have messed up the background. make sure you have XCView 1.1. it has a fix for the file sizes.also with it you can check the files by opening the converted images (ie not bmp files) the transparent part will be a really ugly pink. if the background is black then it's wrong.I dont remember the pallet index for the transparent color on that format but if you just do an export of an original file you can look it up. -Blade FireLight
NKF
Most old palette based games use palette entry 0 as the transparency. Although I wouldn't rule out entry 255 either. But 0 is the most likely. Images with 16-bit or greater colours use magenta (RGB(255, 0, 255)) for transparency. Assuming the images you are working on are indexed images, I think the easiest way to maintain palette consistency is to only work work on them in indexed mode -- never in RGB mode. Or you could use RGB, but you'd want to convert the image back into an indexed image before saving. You'll also want to force the image back to the game's palette. The few .lbm bitmaps used by the game have the game's palette, and if you're using the Collectors Edition, the screenshots saved as .tga files also have the proper palette information. - NKF
Munkeylord
blade and nfk are both correct, but to convert the bmp to an spk you need version 1.1. it will work after that, but i suggest exporting the spk and then importing the bmp without messing with the background colors to keep the transparent color from being stupid......you know, locking up your machine or crashing your game. also, if your interested. send me the files that you have changed and i'll make a uniform for ingame play. then put it up on my site. only if you want to. BladeFireLight
Nice. what other ones are you doing? I'm looking for Forest. Desert. Urban and Snow. I think it would be cool to have the game auto switch the graphics based on the current terrain... one of the many loose ends i'm working on -Blade FireLight
Terawatt_99
wow... great minds think alike... i've got overlays for all four of those, but i'm having a bit of trouble getting the personal armour to look right, since it's suck a drastically different colour from the other armours... Munkeylord
would you like ingame uniforms for the desert? camo. well, it wouldn't be to difficult to make the personel armor the same color as the uniforms, pretty easy actually. i'm pretty board so i'm going to make ingame desert camo uniforms to go with your inv screen uniforms............you will like them too. BladeFireLight
Monkey lord... if you can make a matching unit .pck set for each of the inventory screens... once i'm dont with my pckmerge porgarm I will look at making a auto switcher for the images based on what terrain is being used in combat. -Blade FireLight
Munkeylord
you know i'm in on that! but i was thinking to have forest and jungle uniforms being different, woodland camo for woods areas, and tiger stripe camo for jungle areas. it won't be to hard to make all the uniforms but its just going to take about 2 hours for each one for ingame play and maybe 10 mins for the inventory screens. i'll make a mock up of what they will look like for ingame today sometime. JellyfishGreen
Anyone want to work on dark shades for the Men In Black I've always wanted? I'll do it myself if I end up with spare time at work (ugh). But I wanted to see the guys in sharp suits and shades rather than overalls.

Terawatt_99
ok, i think i've gotten the personal armour to a good colour for the desert cammo, i'll finish the desert set and at least a couple of others next week, since i'll be off on spring break and i'll be able to devote more time to it, but i doubt you'll see anyhting new from me until then... JellyfishGreen
Winged spiky hair is good - however creative you feel! Why MIB, you may ask?I want my Agents to be nattily dressed, not slouching around in baggy flight suits.I want to see Agent J and K with their Noisy Cricket plasma pistols.I want to see Val Kilmer with a swag bag and an assault rifle in the movie Heat.I want to be Mr. Black (but won't complain about being Mr. Pink). After all, who needs Armour when you've got Attitude?
Munkeylord
which assault rifle are you talking about? in the big bank robbery scene there are m-4's and galil rifles for the "cool" guys, and i think the main cop guy is using a sig
JellyfishGreen
I'm not all that fussy. Whatever the standard XCOM issue is these days. I was just speaking metaphorically.
