Some of the voluntary stuff I've done has made me nervous at first, stuff I actually cared about. Like being staff on this site. P.S. Yes, I really said that. Accounting Troll Posted September 9, 2005 Share Posted September 9, 2005 I've been through the same thing - I always feel nervous on my first day in a new job because I never quite know what I'm letting myself in for, and what my co-irkers (typo intended) are going to be like. My second job was probably the worst. The company turned out to deeply in debt and one supplier sent a representative round to tell my boss that if he didn't pay the £20,000 he owed them, they would 'send the boys round'. My boss ended up getting in somebody who looked like a bouncer for his security. Not a good thing to see on your first day... The worst of it was that as I had just been hired to do the bookkeeping, I would be the one who got beaten up if 'the boys' turned up when my boss wasn't around. One thing I noticed was that parcel delivery firms make lots of mistakes on their invoices (even more than companies in other industries), and by an impressive coincidence, every mistake is in THEIR favour. While I've been at my current job for a year and a half now as a court registry officer, my contract expired last April. From then on, they've kept me on by a month-by-month contract, whenever funds are available (typical, eh?) as there have been a number of staffing problems, either from staff leaving, going on materntity leave(simultaneously) or staff choosing to go on annual leave. Not the best arrangement for myself, but it'll keeps the bills paid until I can find my true calling in life. I've been shuttled around from department to department, and have been torn out of my comfort zone constantly, so I'm constantly experiencing that new feeling. The moment I settle in and get used to one job, I'm whisked off to another, with absolutely no idea what there is for me next to do. Mind you, each job I do is identical to the previous, but because each department has their own way of doing things, their own filing system, their own daily rituals, etc. It's nerve wracking and my recent appointment has left me a very wobbly pile of jelly. On the other hand, this is making me more indispensible. It's hard to settle in when you don't know anyone and you don't know the processes. Mind you, it always helps to find youself working in a friendly environment with good co workers to help you along the way. You probably won't always get that, but if you do, make good use of it. Ivory Posted September 13, 2005 Author Share Posted September 13, 2005 thankyou full auto for those few kind words! your right, it woudl be time to sue and clean out the school for all you coudl get. forget the fact that your also clearingout the money thats educating your and everyone elses child.....but thats a different debate. well week two and im alread settlign in quite nicely. got to know the kids abit, tho still soem way to go, and got the basics sorted on the equiptment for lifting and such! still some jargon to get my head round but ive got training that will cover that next week! alreaduign wondering why i felt so nervous!
