Spaceman42
I was doing a night mission on an Abductor with Snakemen, and sent in a guy with Heavy Plasma and Alien Grenades to scout out the ship. After he took down two Chryssalids, he was turned into a zombie. [Rookie, no big loss] However, I was puzzled by the fact that no "dropped objects" symbol appeared on the ground where he had been. I sent in another rookie, similarly armed, who blasted the Zombie into a Chryssalid and ran. [This one ran out of TUs in front of a Snakey, and was promptly dispatched.] I then [wisely] chose to BB a way in next to Snakey, who died. My guy ran out of TUs in the little alcove, and was shot at [!] and, on the next turn, had a grenade thrown at [!!] by the Chryssalid-Zombie-Rookie. I didn't know that could happen, and I don't think it was supposed to. Has this happened to anyone else?
BladeFireLight
as far as i know it's no suposed to. but if the zimbie does retain his weapons the the AI will use them. the AI will attack with what ever option it has. it would have been interesting to see.. i bet if you kept your distance it would use the gun over it's creature weapon -Blade FireLight
NKF
Yes it can happen, among other weird game incidents (like soldier cloning where your soldier dies, then falls unconscious (next to a mysterious dead body), then dies again on the next turn). The game just forgets to tell the zombie to drop its equipment, so, since there's a gun in its hands and grenades in its pockets, it'll happliy use them. Luckily for you, zombies and chryssalids have 0 firing accuracy and 0 throwing accuracy. This means they have a hard time getting most of their ranged attacks to connect (except when up close). Although, with grenades, who needs to be accurate? I better take note of this before I forget. I knew I was forgetting something. - NKF
Spaceman42
Actually, the Chryssalid *did* hit with the Heavy Plasma, and threw the grenade *right* where my guy was. [Okay, this last is a bit fuzzy - it was a 1-turn explosive.] Maybe it retained the attributes of my soldier, or something?
NKF
All the chryssalids have the same stats. It's not that the chryssalids cannot hit with a gun or a grenade, they can. It's just a lot harder to pull off than with an ordinary alien. I think your chryssalid did fire wild, it's just that the path to the destination for the wild shot intersected the tile your soldier was standing in. Since your soldier was in the way, that's what the bullet hit. So, yeah, technically it scored a perfect hit. As for the grenade -- Hmm, I really don't know about that one. - NKF
BladeFireLight
From my understanding of the game dynamics and data files. the crysalys would retain the stats of the soldier. while the first ones would have the crysalys stats. but then i could be wrong
NKF
You know, come to think of it, I'm not all that sure myself at the moment. I do know converted chryssalids retain the stats of ordinary chryssalids, and the few times I probed the zombies, they have their own set of stats. How about everyone try this little experiment: Probe a zombie and its resulting chryssalid and see what results you get. Try the same with a converted chryssalid (mind control a zombie, then have it killed and wait a turn). Hmm, perhaps the zombies and chryssalids do retain the stats in games prior to version 1.4? - NKF
Snikers
"Retaining original stats" has me confused. I do know that when you bring a converted Cryssalid back to base, it turns back into thezombified soldier. Or are you talking about something else? NKF
I mean, after a soldier has been turned into a chryssalid, does the chryssalid (or its zombie) keep the stats of the soldier in question, or do they get the stats that every other chryssalid gets? - NKF
Spaceman42
This all *was* in 1.4.
NKF
I meant for zombie/chryssalid keeping the soldier's stats. There's no doubt that in v1.4 the game forgets to drop the zombie/chryssalid's equipment, and that even a 0% accurate shot can hit its target as the bullet has to go somewhere and has to hit something. - NKF update: I had a go at it. A soldier-chryssalid doesn't keep his or her stats. BUT, for a laugh, I mind controlled the chryssalid and made it pick up a regular pistol and had it shoot at a nearby zombie. It was amazing. All three shots hit spot on. Then again, in a previous terror mission against sectoids, I had 15%-18% accurate snapshots with the pistol hit them quite frequently. Disciple of Yevon
Chrysalids are strange. In a terror mission one went up the skyranger ramp and stopped in front of my sergeant, then turned and walked away without attacking. Whats up with that? Hankosha
try this: mind control an alien, then flying off with it on your ship. If I remember correctly, you'll have an alien with you next mission. :dontgetit:
NKF
Actually, the alien goes MIA (the game doesn't tell you this -- I didn't get any points for it, it wasn't in containment, nor was it in the next mission). All I got was its equipment. Mind control on the last turn cuts both ways. Happens with loyal chryssalids too. As for the chryssalid turning away -- hey, it happens. Either it ran out of TUs, or, surprise, surprise, it actually did not see your soldier. Happens with Reapers all the time. Reaction fire does sometimes make melee aliens break off their attack and either run the other way, or attack the next nearest target. Further opportunity shots will make the chryssalids resume its attack (perhaps because the shooter is the nearest target?). - NKF
