JakeAndrew77
I am very angry that I cannot use this. If it is a write protection issue, then why would it still bring that up, if I have installed it on a regular CDrom drive? My fellow Game enthusiast, lend me your brains! I really want to play this game, so, I am releasing my computer Specs for you to observe, and tell me if there is anything that you can recommend. The following Dxdiag report should give you everything you need, and also I have removed non vital information from it, in order to shorten the actual. I am out of ideas, and really, if there is some kind of work around, then perhaps I need to do that. Otherwise, I am screwed because Hastings doesn't have a very good return policy. JakeAndrew77
The game hangs when you try to start it? You could try adding the latest ATI drivers for one. Okay, latest driver installed, and now it runs, until you try to start a game, and then it says: Application Crashed application violation reading from Address: 0x0000000! and then some other numbers and then wall 6. Whats going on with this? By the way, thanks for the advice on the driver.
Kizmiaz
Eh, this is a longshot but I see that you have an Athlon.Maybe the power supply cant do the work properly? Is this the only game with problems? On most newer boards you can enter the bios or run some program from the desktop that allows you to monitor the hardware. The volt values should not go below -10 % . At least that what I've been told when I had the same problems. (Not with AM though, but I could't run any 3D games)
Slaughter
I am starting to suspect that Aftermath has some trouble with SP2. I suggest you take a look at the official support page. If you can't find the answer there, send an e-mail to the address listed at the bottom of the page.
JakeAndrew77
I am starting to suspect that Aftermath has some trouble with SP2. I suggest you take a look at the official support page. If you can't find the answer there, send an e-mail to the address listed at the bottom of the page.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the great info. Unfortunately, well, they don't have anything valid to deal with the problem on the support page, so it looks like I am going to have to take it directly to them. I really have heard great things about this game, so you can understand my disappointment if I don't get to actually play it. lol. Anyway, I will keep you updated, and post whatever resolution for the problem here on the forum, just in case anyone else has the same problem. JakeAndrew77
Okay guys, I have found a working solution to the problem, and without the need to contact technical support. Just had to tinker with the system a little bit to find a working solution. So here is the Solution: First and foremost, you are absolutely correct in that SP2 is the main problem here. From what I have learned from some of my more 'learned' pupils that work with these problems all the time, it is because that SP2, is designed to change the memory locations automatically in order to make faster processes. However, this corrupts the program, during installation. So, what I suggest is do exactly like I did, and update all your drivers first. Then, uninstall the program and go into your program file, and delete the remainding folder under Altar. After you have completed this process, and in order to play the game, you have to make a clean boot. In order to do this, follow the following. Click on Start,Scroll up to run, and type msconfig. this will bring up the system configuration utilityon the first page under selective startup, you will find the following with buttons to the left of them:Process SYSTEM.INI FILEProcess WIN.INI FILELoad system servicesLoad startup items. You will need to unselect all of these processes, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF load system services. The next step, is to follow the tabs at the top, until you come to services. Click the tab, and at the bottom of the page, check the box next to hide all microsoft services. Then, click the disable all button. after you have done this, you can click the apply, and then close button, it will then prompt you to restart. restart, and now you can install the program without problem, BUT YOU must remember, it would behoove you to also play in during a clean boot session (I also found that Norton Antivirus gives me a little trouble as well). To return you back to your computers original configuration, simply complete the reverse, using the system configuration utility. I want to Thank you all for your help, and I hope that I won't have any more problems, but if I do, I will know where to go.

Kizmiaz
Glad it's working allright. Sounds a bit tedious to play tough .I am starting to suspect that Aftermath has some trouble with SP2...I just installed AM today on WinXP SP2 and had no problems whatsoever. Just installed, patched & played (tutorial). Kret
By the explanation and the process on how to get it to work, it might not be SP2, but rather any of the processes that he removes from the startup config.
