Slaughter
Before the weekend, Opera's CEO, Jon S. von Tetzchner boldly proclaimed at a company meeting that if download numbers of Opera 8 reached 1 million within four days he would swim from Norway to the USA.It did! He He He  Read more about his progress here. Oh, and for those of you not familiar with Opera, it's a fine Norwegian browser. You should really give it a try! KoMik
I hope there is fast helicopter ready to take off... Where is he going to sleep? In that small rubber boat with Eskil? They sure are friends... Trip like that can be hard to friendship and to mind. Brrrr... my pu**y freeze just when thinking how cold the sea is near Island. I hope they will make it but I doupt it. Marketing tricks like this are just too crazy (but funny too) .
Accounting Troll
Besides, I can't swim to the USA without maps It's sort of to the left when you reach Bergen. Then keep on past Scotland. I hope he doesn't drown. I mostly use Opera these days because I'm sick of the bugs and spyware associated with MS Internet Explorer. PS, the Irish made it to the Faroes and Iceland before the Vikings
FullAuto
Yes, but to be fair, they were drunk at the time.
Strong Bob
I'm wondering how he'll take care of marine predators (Like sharks) and the immense tidal activity that occurs out in the ocean. Let alone the cold... If things get bad, the waves could send that guy down so far that the water pressure will crush him...... I hope the guy in the raft brought a fishing rod. Bomb Bloke
I assume the status report where his raft got a puncture and he was forced to return (after saving his employee, the whole scene being photographed by a farmer with a very high quality camera and incredibly longrange telescopic lense) was posted after you guys read the page... Reckon if someone paid for a new raft he'd try again?

Accounting Troll
I don't think real Vikings would have given up so easily. And they certainaly woudn't have eaten mini carrots. And shame on you all for being suspicious merely because the angle of the photographs was just right for the photographer to have been in the accompanying luxury yatcht.
Bomb Bloke
Wonder how many more downloads they got because of that little report? They'd have got a lot more hits ont he site, certainly...
Slaughter
It sure was a good move for advertising! Most major Norwegian news sites reported it, and quite a few foreign I suppose. That being said, Opera is one of the largest and most recognized browsers out there, so it's not like no one had heard about them before
Strong Bob
This would be the first I've heard of Opera. >_<
Slaughter
Hehe, not saying everyone knows it, but they are large. If you browse the web a little looking specifically for browser information, like statistics, support for CSS and so on, you'll see what I mean. Jman4117
Runs like a bat out of hell on a machine with low RAM if compared to Mozilla.
Kizmiaz
Hehe, not saying everyone knows it, but they are large.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Heh, heh . I saw somewhere that Opera had like 1-2 % of the browser market. I wouldn't exactly call that large. I'm using it right now and are quite happy about it. Still have to fire up IE on occations, though.

IE have most of the market, Firefox have grown to about 20% while Opera have about 2% as you say. But Opera is still the third/fourth largest at about the same as Netscape. So even if Opera is small in regards to total browser use, it is one of the largest browsers at about the same percentage as Netscape. And even though I've used Firefox a little for testing purposes now, I think Opera is the best one. Stats here by the way.
Kizmiaz
OK, thanks. We seem to have the same opinion on Opera vs. Firefox .I missed Operas download management, anf Firefox messed up large jpg:s.I guess one explanation of the small market-share is that Opera costs money. But even in sponsor mode it whoops the IE:s ass.
Slaughter
Yeah, the adds are annoying in the free version. Think they would do well to get rid of it!
Jman4117
If you run it full screen it disappears, at least on my version anyways.
