Slaughter
Dear Slaughter Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You've made my day! New to the forums but I've been a fan of Xcom since PcGames or was it PcGamer put TFTD on their demo disc back in 95. All this hoopla over Aftershock has got me itching to play the old school games. I bought all the Xcom titles (expect enforcer and missed the boat on email-X) back in the day but lost all the discs. Now I can calmly wait for the US Q1 06 release of AS. Thanks again! You're welcome! P.S. is did they make a windows version of Terror? Or a patch to make it run smoothly on XP?Yeah, the Collectors Edition of X-COM contained both UFO: EU and TFTD in Windows XP versions. If you search Google with "download terror from the deep" you should find it. Remember however that this whole "abandonware" thing is sort of illegal. I think it's bull myself, since the games can't be bought anymore, but keep it in mind. Besides that, enjoy!
Tharg
I think it is still technically illegal to download this game, but Julian C Gollop's post in this thread on the Laser Squad Nemesis board makes it morally fine, for me at least. (Here's the specific post.)
Slaughter
Not if Fileplanet has permission from the owner to host the games. I doubt a large and respectable fileserver like Fileplanet would host it if it was illegal. In general however, you are right in that downloading abandonware is illegal. Bomb Bloke
Someone with better legal knowledge than me will have to tell me: is that a decent defence in a court of law? The Defence: "Ahem, the defendent politely suggests that the publishers kiss the ar*e of Julian Gollop, the creator of their game." Whether or not FilePlanet has permission is debatable, but that's their problem - Not ours. Also note that neither Julian or the original publishers own the game anymore. Semi-interestingly, the Microprose site has had a "face lift" of sorts: This domain name expired on 06/20/2006 and is pending renewal or deletion. ccarter1024
Hate to tell you this guys but the links to the FIleplanet Download are no longer good. The only way that I know of to download XCOM: CE is through Bit Torrent download. Just thought you should know. I only checked FilePlanet, not any other dowload portal besides all the Torrent sites. Bomb Bloke
I'm afraid that's old news, however since the FilePlanet link was spread through so many threads, they didn't all get the message.
