Slaughter
Okay, people can joke about a lot of things, but X-Com isn't one of them!!! Take a look at this post. It is probably one of those April jokes, but if so I don't like it! Someone is in for long sessions of torture...
Bomb Bloke
Same as Zombie, I've no idea what access codes and the like he is talking about. Care to elaborate?
Slaughter
No idea. After reading the post again I lean more and more towards the fact that I'll have to torture Micah for a VERY bad joke!
FullAuto
Access codes to the copy protection on X-Com.
Pete
I'm getting a website blocked message as I'm in work, but UFO had access codes to be able to run the gam when it was first released as did in most Microprose titles of the time. I remember happily one day having learned the names of all the trains in Railroad Tycoon by sight alone to beat the copy protection. UFO's codes were somewhat more complex being a string of characters and numbers, but I believe the 1.4 patch removes the copy protection anyway in the DOS version...? I shall have to look at the post when I get home
FullAuto
Aye, that's what someone else has already postulated over on X-comufo.
Slaughter
And just when I though this day couldn't get any worse...
Accounting Troll
April Fools Day joke. The post referred to a legal deal sorted out by Micah's lawyer - that means the whole thing would have been going on for months, possibly years and we would have heard about it before now. And why would Atari wait until now before showing an interest in alleged software piracy relating to access codes in an eleven year old computer game, codes that were defiantly taken out of the version that I brought in 1998? Bomb Bloke
Heh... I found the codes while hunting through the CE version... they just aren't implemented. I suppose anything said on April 1st should be taken with a grain of salt.
Zombie
And certain idots such as myself take things way to seriously. I fell for that one hook, line and sinker. How embarassing. Must have been a good laugh for stewart though!
Slaughter
You're not alone. I knew well enough what day it was, but since Micah haven't been present lately...
Thorondor
On a slightly related note: I've noticed there are some cheats listed for 'X-Com/UFO: Enemy Unknown/Defense' up at GameSpy. ::
