Just pulled a short story pertaining to X-COM off the net.

Mark B's X-COM Story

This can go underneath all the other fan-fiction sites, when you get time. Ahem!

----------

Edit: Wow, when it rains, it pours! Some more fan-fic! This site is worded in german, but the stories are in english.

Russ Browns X-COM Stories

There are 8 stories, numbered from Part 1 to Part 8. From the looks of the copyrights plastered at the top of each of those stories, it is OFFICIAL literature put out by MicroProse Software, Inc! What a rare find! :P

This can be placed above Mark B's link.

----------

This one is not fiction. These are actual accounts of missions played in X-COM: UFO Defense (or Enemy Unknown for everyone in Europe). I'm not sure where to place this one, but perhaps it should go under a new subheading in "The X-Com Games" entitled "Enemy Unknown".

EldritchEvil's Battlereport #1

EldritchEvil's Battlereport #2

EldritchEvil's Battlereport #3

EldritchEvil's Battlereport #4

EldritchEvil's Battlereport #5

Please note that I linked to the individual stories as I don't know how to get them all in one page. If you could find a way to show all the reports from that website in one page, I'd be in debt. The X-COM stories are all titled something like this:

Ten guys and ...... vs alien hordes: X-COM series part (1 to 5), and written by EldritchEvil. These are brand-new reports, just posted in Feb-Mar of this year. If you are unable to play Enemy Unknown for some reason, these might stop those withdrawl symptoms for a while! :D

----------

Finally, if you want to know what the fan-fic subheading will look like so far, I'll give an example:

X-Com Fan-Fiction

X-Com @ FanFiction.Net

Scifi Emporium

Russ Browns X-COM Stories

Mark B's X-COM Story

Take care, Slaughter! :D

Yep, looks great. I like your idea of listing those 5 stories by EldritchEvil!

By the way, there may or may not be more stories by EldritchEvil coming out. It's still to early to tell, but I'll keep an eye on that site to make sure we don't miss any.

I'll see if there is anything more out there. Right now, I think we are pretty close to having everything for X-COM listed, though.

I feel a little embarassed missing the next two links, but my searches were initially limited to the various X-COM games.

For those of us who own the Official Strategy Guide, we know that guide was written by David Ellis. He is an important guy because not only did he write strategy guides for MicroProse, but he also became the lead designer for both Interceptor and the defunct Genesis X-COM games. His website is a must-read for anyone wanting a background of his life and his work. As an added bunus, his website is also designed to look like a Star Trek: TNG ships console!

David Ellis' Website

Our very own thecyke has his own website where he interviewed various people pertaing to the X-COM games; the most important being David Ellis. His 3 part interview focused on the beginning years, Interceptor and Genesis. Interesting, to say the least!

cyke's website

As these websites really deal with X-COM in general and news, I propose we create a new subsection named "X-COM News". It would be placed above the current "X-COM Support" links section. For instance:

Fan-sites

X-COM News

cyke's website

David Ellis' Website

X-Com Support

.

.

.

etc.

Thanks! ;)

Thanks Zombie! ;) I'll get them added. Not sure I want them under news however, as news is rarely added on X-Com at either site. I'll see what I come up with.

Actually, I like the way you did it better. My original idea was an "other" subheading, but I can't explain why I said news. *Zombie shakes his head* Chalk it up to tiredness. Once again, great job Slaughter! :)

I also had a look around the S2/S3 areas and link sections. Very nice indeed!

I have been pretty busy the past couple of weeks, but it looks like things are starting to slow down a bit. I was just searching for UFO: Aftermath links and came up with a couple of old interviews with Jiri Rydl, the PR manager for the game. Just for the nostalgia alone, it might be interesting to re-read.

12th June 2002 Interview

Fragtopia's Interview

19th June 2002 Interview

Computerandvideogames interview

I realize that in the interview section of this website it is mentioned that you will list the other non-strategycore interviews at some point in time. These might come in handy when you do. ;)

Don't worry, Slaughter. I'm still working on the links to the X-COM games. Just today, I pulled a couple of additional sites off the net:

Necrom's X-COM Apocalypse Training Center

Obviously, it's a strict Apoc website, but it is excellent nonetheless! It has separate pages for the Enemies, Tactical, Research, Equipment, as well as a Message Board and downloads. Wow, nice site! ;)

----------

Here is a strict UFO Defense page:

X-COM: UFO Defense Website

Another very nice website! It has some info and files, a walkthrough, an awesome research Tech Tree, and a UFOpedia that rivals the best out there. It took a while for me to figure out how to navigate to the various sections, but I figured it out. In the upper left is a picture of Mars. Surrounding it are the four various icons representing the different sections. Click on those smaller icons for access.

So there you go, a couple of superb sites to consider adding to our excellent links section. Take care! :)
